Birstall, in West Yorkshire, is a small town which is the birthplace of Joseph Priestley, discoverer of oxygen. His statue stands in the cobbled market square, overlooking a small selection of shops. The town of Birstall is situated off the A62 between Leeds and Huddersfield. At the motorway M62 Junction 27 there is a retail park with a variety of large retail outlets. Ikea, Borders with Starbucks, Currys, Comet, WH Smiths, Boots, Next and Gap are just a few. But don't miss the smaller local shops in the main town about a mile down the road. Travel about a mile along the A62 towards Huddersfield and turn right at the traffic lights into the village ...
