Advantages: easy to navigate and a wide selection
Disadvantages: can be slow to deliver and prices are not always competitive
I signed up with I points way back in July and with loads of websites offering I points for shopping they caught my eye. Bol.com was one of these promising 50 I points for joining and a further 10 I points for every £10 spent on site. Well I had nothing to loose so I clicked on the bol.com symbol and it took me straight to the site. First I had to registar which was simplicity itself you just enter in your email address which you use for I points and a password. Takes about a few minutes and away I went. My first love is books and I had a few titles in mind that I wanted so I entered them into the search facility which appears at the top of each page and has three main sections title, authour and ISBN number all of which are straight forward. I entered the title of my first book and it came up with five matches all correct but a couple were in hardback and a talking one. I clicked on the symbol beside the one I wanted to purchase and it added the item to my shopping basket with the option to go to the checkout or continue shopping. Well i'm a shopoholic so one book would never be enough so I ended up buying four on that occasion. At £2.95 for P&P this covers as many books as you want delivered to any british address. Bol doesn't only cater for bookworms you can also purchase cd's and dvd's as well as videos and games etc all as easy to order as the books. The site on a whole is very easy to navigate ans if you can't remember the authour and only part of the title they have a keyword search but this will throw up every possibility of what you are searching for. If what you are looking for isn't released yet they have a preorder facility where they promise to deliver as soon as the item you require is on sale to the public. Beware this is where Bol.com let me down big time. Everything I had previously ordered arrived a few days later with no misshapps and the order was always
correct in everyway and I was a totally satisfied customer until I decided to place Lucy Talk on preorder due to be released on the 6th of September. I had ordered a few other things at the same time which arrived a few days later and impeccably packaged and on the invoice it informed me that Lucy Talk would be dispatched on the 6th of September as arranged with no extra delivery charge well I was impressed. The 6th of September came and went and when I saw the same book in WHsimths at only £4.99 I jumped at it and added the points onto my clubcard instead. After previously sending furious emails to Bol.com when my book failed to reply I recieved no answer which was unusuall as previous email quereys had been dealt with swiftly. In the midle of an argument about spending too much money the postman decided to knock on the door and thrust a package into my hands. I ripped it open with glee until I saw what it contained my book nearly 6 weeks later. I had no choice but to return it but even though I had to pay postage on it I was assured that the money would be refunded into my account. Every month they have special offers such as three books for £10 from a selected range and half price videos and dvd's which are worth checking out for cheap pressies or just to treat yourself. You can also custominse this site to your own personal taste just click on your taste in music, films and authors and they will select items that they think will appeal to you each month but you don't need to buy them as this isn't a book club in any way. On the whole a great site but with only one letdown. Prices are competitive with other online shops such as amazon but I would check them all out first for prices etc before ordering.

lynn_bex - 21/10/01 Sounds good to me...
But as you probably realise, my "must have's" tend to be "MUST HAVE NOW'S"
(- on the day of publication/release) and I'm lucky enough to work in Central London where I can pay through the nose (Bloomsbury Safeways Excepted) for instant gratification!!!
Take care. Lynn xxx |
