Advantages: Cheap, Reliable
Disadvantages: Can take a while
Since I came to university back in September 2000, I have avidly been buying CDs and wasting my student loan. Living close to Manchester city centre, I often wander into town and look at the CD offers and also the prices of CDs I am interested in buying. However, I often look online to see if it is possible to purchase CDs cheaper over the internet. I don't quite recall how I came across CD-Wow, but I am incredibly grateful to whoever it was that recommended it to me- I've saved so much money. The Site -------- The site itself isn't anything exciting. The main page is a standard web page with links to other areas of the site depending upon what you are looking for. However, be warned Internet Explorer users, it can take a while to load, because there are many pictures to load. I am lucky that I am accessing it over a university LAN; from home it does take a while. The actual layout of the main page is pretty good with links at the top and then three columns: one showing popular CDs, another showing the current top 20 CDs and the final column showing CDs that can be pre-ordered from the company. The search mechanisms on the site are good, as you can either browse by artist or by the top 75 CDs. The other good thing is that when you browse by artist, you can see all the CD albums that an artist has produced, which are stocked by the company. You can also click on a CD name and check the tracks available on it, as well as having a look at the album sleeve. Security -------- The site seems to be pretty secure, and I have had no problems as yet with my personal details being accessed by anyone. Spam ---- The site is actually very good with regards to spam. The only thing I have received is e-mails informing me of special offers, which has been useful. Ordering -------- Once you've chosen what you want, you simply fill in the relevant
sections on the online ordering form and you are given a reference number for the order. The company then send you three e-mails to confirm your order: one to confirm that your payment has been authorised, one to confirm your order, and one to inform you that your product has been dispatched. So far I have had no problems with receiving goods from the company, although it does take about a week for the CDs to arrive in the post, as they are shipped over from Hong Kong. Value for Money --------------- The prices of CDs starts from £3.99 for some special offer CDs e.g. Spice Girls' Forever. Other bargain CDs, as they are called, are £6.99. The standard price of single CDs is £8.99 and double CDs, £10.99. I managed to get Michael Jackson's History for this price, which is about £10 cheaper than anywhere else! Methods of Payment ------------------- CD-Wow accepts payment by Switch, Solo, Visa, Mastercard, Delta, Smart Creds and Splash Plastic. Conclusion ----------- All in all a good website that provides excellent value for money. The ability to pre order CDs is very useful and the layout is ok. I'll definitely be shopping there again!

defiler - 25/05/01 Good site but not great for albums that are quite old unless they are really popular. |
