I have just had cause to query by phone and Email the progress of an outstanding order with Clifford James. On 13 November 2013 I placed an order for two pairs of thermal lined poly cotton chinos and received a confirmatory Email stating delivery would be in 3 - 4 days, that I would be notified by Email when the goods had been despatched and that I would not be charged until the goods were despatched. To date, 21 November, neither the goods nor a confirmation of despatch has been received. However my bank account was debited with the full amount on 19 November. At about 1100 this morning I phoned customer services and spoke to Natalie (I think) who told me that all the paperwork had gone to the warehouse and that she would check on the situation and phone me back. At about 1545 not having received a phone call I tried again, this time speaking to Kirsty. She said she would contact the warehouse and would ask Natalie to phone me back. By 1730 I had received none of the promised phone calls, no goods but the payment had been taken. It is an understatement to say that I am disappointed with the level of service I have so far received. If the goods were indeed despatched before the payment was taken where was the informatory Email and why could I not have been told in one of the promised phone calls. The original Email states that they are "continually striving to improve levels of service". If what I experienced today was improved then I hate to think what it was like before. I have just received,1810, what looks like a standard reply promising a response within two days but I live more in hope than expectation of a reasonable explanation and maybe even receipt of the goods which if they are of the same quality as the customer service will be promptly returned.
I purchased a large compact dehumidifier from these people just over a year ago and it has stopped working, although it sounds as if it is working it is no longer pulling in even a drop of moisture. Unfortunately being just outside the 12 months I did not expect a replacement, but asked advice on the problem, ie cause and could it be fixed. I had a young girl who sounded about 12 advise me to take it apart and change the filter, which they don't stock and advised 'oh, you could try e-bay'. However, after deciding that there was now nothing to lose by taking it apart to see if there was any obvious problem inside I have found that it is a fixed unit. I was simply told any old rubbish just to get me off the phone.
EXCELLENT ITEMS, VERY FAST DELIVERY SERVICE. VERY POLITE DELIVERY GENT . A VERY SATISFACTORY 5 STAR SERVICE. I VERY HIGHLY RECOMMEND CLIFFORD JAMES...................
After buying a rollator I found it to be of not the best build quality. Adjusters that work loose and then fall off, the plastic break leavers do not take a lot to snap off. They do not appear to have any spare parts and do not wish to try and get replacement parts.Clifford James customer service department was of no help and it seems once they have sold the goods and got your money they really don't want to know. Anyone thinking of buying anything from Clifford James should think long and hard before parting with their money!
I bought 2 pairs in a BOGOF deal for £40. The shoes look ok but are the most uncomfortable shoes I have ever worn Whatever I do I cannot break them in and I suffer blisters whenever I wear them - they are the correct size. The leather seems very rigid and not supple at all. I wish I's spend more on a decent pair. These shoes are now donated to the dog - for chewing purposes.
I purchased an upholstery and garment steam cleaner from via The Guardian Readers offers page, Clifford James happened to be the supplier. Never again! The steamer arrived with two head attachments. One of the heads wouldn't stay on the steam head, the second head, a lint head did fit however within seconds of being used peeled off the fitting. I called the premium number 'customer service' line and was told two replacement heads would be sent out. A week later they despatch them, but on arrival they are the wrong heads. So another call to the premium number and another promise of the replacement heads to be sent out - but no delivery estimation just 'when 'he' gets them he'll post them out'. Who on earth is 'he'? It's an absolutely appalling service and although the steam cleaner is good itself the fittings are of very poor quality. I'd never heard of Clifford James before, and I'll be making sure I never buy anything from them via The Guardian readers offers again. PS: On the Guardian Readers Offers page it shows Feefo customer feedback, as does Clifford James's own website - there is not one negative comment about this company at all, nor is there any way that you can leave comments. Feefo customer feedback for Clifford James can only be regarded as dishonest and purposely misleading after you read the comments on this site. Shocking company.
I ordered a pair of the Ladies all weather boots - they arrived in super quick time, great product, very comfortable boot and warm just what i needed for when i am walking my dogs - the quality of the boot is made well and i found the choice of colours very good, i have recommended this product to my friends and would buy from Clifford-James again - i found their customer service to be efficient, knowledgeable and friendly.
Bought 2 pairs of the Unisex boots/ shoes. Luckily ordered a size larger than normal having read other comments. Appeared sturdy and well constructed. I have worn them about 25 times and the heel has worn through. I have walked down to the High street and back, a round trip of maybe 3/4mile each time. These shoes have NOT had a hard life and I would reasonably expect my shoes to last considerably longer than this. The uppers are still almost pristine. When I contacted Clifford James their answer was, 'tough, you've had them more than 30 days'. This is true, but if I was selling shoes and someone reported that they wore out after such a short period, I would return them to the manufacturer for refund. Avoid these shoes like the plague!!
Take this as a warning, NEVER, EVER waste your money on footwear from this appalling company. Never trust a company with a premium rate 0871 phone number that costs you to talk to 'Customer Service'. And if ever there was a misuse of the title 'Customer Service' then it is by this dreadful company. My brother-in-law ordered a pair of Samuel Windsor 'Torino' boots from their, wait for it...'Prestige Collection'. Made by crafstmen who are so proud of their work they sent 2 left boots! Great if you have 2 left feet...my brother-in-law doesn't. So proud in fact that the supposed 'craftsman' even include a signed certificate with a signature that is nothing more than a squiggely line. I've seen 4 of these worthless certificates, and all the signatures are illegible. When a replacement pair were requested, we were told that this style was no longer available. But wait a minute...these boots are 'hand made'? Surely one of the so called craftsman with the wavy signature could cobble (no pun intended) a pair together for him? Unfortunately 'not possible' we were told, so a different style was ordered. I won't go into detail now, just suffice to say that I have never seen such astonishingly poor quality on a product that supposedly has an unbelievable rrp of £115. If this is hand made, then give me something made by machine every time. I recently bought a pair of Chelsea boots from a budget retail chain called Primark, £18 reduced to £10 in their sale and the quality, compared with the Samuel Windsor item, is 110% better. So, if you decide, in a moment of madness, to buy from this company, remember I warned you when you're trying to deal with Customer Services! And I have more to say about this, so please watch this space. Steve Kingston
I was recommended to get a pair of shoes from this bunch, oh what a mistake. The shoes although comfortable lasted a month before they started leaking. Yes I had to step into a puddle or I had to wait 2-3 weeks before they dried up and I could walk outside. The shoes have been returned but guess who can't find them??? I contacted them again 5 weeks after the return. Its good to know that they actually took the time to read my message as all I got back was another returns label. Hopeless, hopeless, hopeless. Anyone who buys from this bunch are taking a risk, the shoes are shoddy and customer service is non existent. You have been warned. Alas I can't give them no stars as thats what they deserve
You would think I would know better. I have been through this so many times with these guys. Their shoes are terrible. Every pair I have owned (I have owned 4 pairs of them), have simply fallen apart as soon as they were wet. This actually happened on my final pair this week when I wore them and had the temerity to stand in a couple of puddles, it was in Atlanta and a real deluge. Previously I have been informed that I had owned them too long to return (despite the fact that I had never worn them - BOGOF) as I cannot wear 2 pairs at the same time! They simply fell apart, the sole has lots of life left on it, the stitching has just failed - all over! I swore that they have had enough chances from me.... I will NEVER buy another product from these people....yet I was almost seduced into a coat and a suit recently through Groupon....DO NOT DO IT - they are cheap for a reason...because they are CRAP!
DO NOT order these shoes. I could not believe it when I opened the box, the uppers were so thin they were barely there, however, as I was about to emigrate I really had no choice but to keep them. I wore them for exactly one day before the stitching started to come undone. After three days the stitching between the side and the front apron came completely undone and they were totally unwearable. I contacted their customer service department who advised me that they couldn't help unless I returned the shoes. I told them I was now in Australia and that the cost of returning them would be more than the cost of the shoes, I also advised them that I wasn't interested in a refund I just wanted them to be aware that there was obviously a problem with the quality of the stitching. They advised me that they wouldnt take any action without the shoes, total waste of time. DO NOT BUY
Bought a pair of boots from Clifford James wore them, to go away to France got to the airport and noticed the glue was a little lose even though they were supposed to be stitched and even advertised as a work boot by the time I got on the plane the sole was hanging of when I returned home I rung there so called customer services they told me to return them but guess what they have disappeared the customer services are appalling blaming the post service but no communication what so ever endless phone calls false promises about replacements and refunds please don't go near them
having read some of the reviews on this forum about the quality of their shoes,i am suprised to see so many adverse comments.i have 10 pairs of their shoes, and find them good value and durableif previous correspondents to this site(the whingers) would use shoes for the purpose they are designed fori.e not walking in bogs or for playing football in,they might find they last longer!!!!ps i do not work for clifford james
My father and I both bought pairs of shoes from Clifford James some months ago. We were attracted by the great prices but had to wait ages to receive the shoes as they were initially out of stock. When they arrived, initial impressions were good. However, the soles on both pairs wore through leaving a big hole after just a few weeks. We phoned Clifford James who said to send them back for a refund. We duly did this but just received a letter saying it was normal wear and tear and as more than 30 days has passed, no refund could be given. If only I had read this site first!
