Advantages: Cheap, in most major towns - end off!
Disadvantages: After they have your money, they are not interested.
My partner and I purchased new Sony Widescreen TV, Video & DVD in January of this year. The video had never been right, and in April we went into store to complain, and they sent out one of their engineers to have a look. When he had checked it over and found nothing wrong, he commented that these things were just "cheap rubbish", and not built to last! - But surely we could expect more than 3 months?
We put up with the noise and problems, but after the video developed a couple of further problems we took it back to the store and requested a refund - under sale of faulty goods act. As per usual, company policy was spouted regarding no one able to authorise this until every measure had been taken to ensure the video was irrepairable. We VERY reluctantly handed in the video for repair on 6th June, and obtained Receipt of Job Card - we were advised the normal time for the repair was 21 days, however they rarely took that long, and it should be back with us in approx 14 days.
By 6th July when we had heard nothing from Comet, we telephoned the store for an update - we were advised that they had no record of the video in the store, and could I fax copy of the Job Card.
Various stories followed - video was still in Broxburn being repaired, it was completely lost in the system, but the best of all came today when we were asked who William was???? Apparently "William" called into the store on 10th June, said he was there to collect our video and it was handed to him, no questions asked!! This was now a fraud investigation, and lo and behold we would not have a video until it had been resolved!
We immediately contacted Customer Services, Investigation Team who were horrified with the story, and arranged for the store manager to contact us directly in order to sort out replacement/refund. This did not even go smoothly, however by standing our ground we have managed to obtain a refund - as we have absolutely no intentions of ever buying any items from Comet for the rest of our lives. So we am now off to visit Comet for the very last time to collect our refund.
By the Way...........if you enter "Customer Service" on the Comet website - it somes up "None Found"!!!!!!!! VERY APPROPRIATE!!!!!!
Summary: Crap service, noone keen to take ownership of problem.
