Advantages: It's easy to say the name Comet
Disadvantages: Terrible customer service - can't deal with things when they go wrong
I have a serious complaint regarding the way in which I have just been dealt with.
I placed an order on 7th July for a Canon EOS350D digital camera. I had established first that this item was currently out of stock, but could be supplied by Comet. Based on this, I purchased £200 of Comet vouchers from my credit card company at a discount to be used in part payment for the camera. I then placed my order with John for the camera which was due in on the 13th July. He estimated delivery for the 17th July.
I have just rung to chase delivery and been told that Comet had "kept trying to ring me on the two numbers provided." This is a bare faced lie, as the telephones concerned record incoming numbers, including unavailable ones and also both have answering services. No calls were made.
I was then told that the Camera was no longer available but I could have an alternative item. As I started out buying the vouchers based on the agreement from Comet to supply, this is unacceptable. The sales and customer services response is "There is nothing we can do about it" as if I was asking them to travel at the speed of light.
There are two things that Comet can do, by which I mean are within their powers to do, assuming due diligence on their part. Either supply me with £200 in exchange for the vouchers, or supply the Camera.
I note that comet are now flagrantly continuing to advertise this camera as available on the website, but at a higher price.
We'll see....
Summary: Can't believe how bad this comapny are.

Further to our phone conversation.
I have spoken to our sales department and have ascertained that your vouchers were received, but have been sent back to you today in the post. The only way we could guarantee dispatching the camera to you in time for the weekend would be if you agree to pay the amount in full on your credit card, and re-send the vouchers to us once these have been posted back to you.
Once we receive these back we can then effect a refund-resale for you onto your credit card for the cost of the vouchers. I can also confirm that we will honour the £456.00 price that you were quoted at the time of your order request. If you would like me to arrange for the sale to be processed for you, please advise me by return. I am sorry for any inconvenience that this may cause you though.
