Comet would you buy from them now?

Briefly, I bought a Hotpoint dryer from Comet auction site in August 2006, which almost immediately had a fault. After 3 further visits by their engineer for a catalogue of problems over a seven month period, I called them asking for a refund. Since then I have made numerous calls and had to resort to writing letters over a two month period to get progressive action (finally got a refund). I made the foolish mistake using their site again to get another machine as a replacement (Bosch this time), as advertised ex display with dents either side. The trouble was that these dents were full panel and so whenever the drum went round it hit both sides! I wonder if items returned to Comet, often for a fault are checked/repaired before putting them up for sale on their auction site. Finally I wrote to their Deputy Managing Director, only to receive a short glib letter, which hardly addressed my problems or answered my questions. I did (only through my persistence) get an offer of another display Bosch, same model for the same price as before, a reduction I am told of £159.49! Uh do you mean this would have been the reduction if the item was new! The figures then do not seem to tie up with what they advertise either, are you in touch! Why would I want to go through this all again.

So what if you have had to put up with an unreliable product and have delivered as a replacement an obvious seriously damaged machine. Do we care for the multitude of calls you have made, letters wrote or time spent. Do we really want to help our customers or do we want to make it so difficult that they give up. What is customer service anyway!

I would rather not use their auction site anymore and you can get far better deals on new items from other retailers, at least then I can use the manufactures guarantee and service.

I know I am a small fish compared to Comet, why should they care. Well I have already bought a washing machine elsewhere, my networking with family and others will cost them sales, and you might be persuaded to avoid them. Ok a tiny dent, but Comet you are the ones who have lost more in the end, people will catch on eventually.

Summary: Better go to Curry's!
