Disadvantages: The whole service is a disadvantage
I purchased a Navman F20 sat nav system from my local Comet store (Snipe Ind Est, Ashton-under-Lyne) on 01/04/07.
The power supply socket detacted itself and fell into the main unit. I took it into the same store for repair on 11/10/07 and was advised it should take a couple of weeks before it would be ready for me to collect.
After 2 weeks and having not heard anything I contacted the store and was told it had been sent back to Navman and it was still with them.
Another week went by and still heard nothing so I contacted the store and was told the same, they also stated that it remained in the store untouched for a week before they sent it off due to the postal strike! I did point out that there are other delivery companies and as far as im concerned that have now had three weeks to get it sorted.
Its not been more than 2 weeks, trading standards have advised me that it should be dealt with within a reasonable time and this is considered to be 28 days. They have now gone beyond what trading standards consider to be reasonable.
What annoys me the most is that I have to chase them, I would have expected comet to have contacted me to keep me informed, appolgise for the delay etc but nothing. I shall contact them again but what I really want is to get my money back so I can go to another store entirely and purchase another unit.
I was going to purchase a laptop from them but as this is how there aftersales service is I went elsewhere.
