Two years ago Comet opened a store near me . I had just bought my first house and needed to kit it out , I shopped around and found comet to be competitive and their staff ( sales staff ) extremely helpful . The stores whole approach was refreshing . Staff where friendly and seemed knowledgeable about their products .Over the next few weeks I spent hundreds of pounds on a washing machine , tumble dryer , fridge freezer and a pc . First the tumble dryer stopped working, they sent an engineer out who gave it a quick service and got the thing going again , within days it wasn't working .They sent another engineer two weeks later who fixed the problem once more . When it broke down a third time they wouldn't help as i wasn't covered by the years guarantee anymore . After arguing with staff that the product was probably faulty in the first place and getting nowhere i threw the machine on the tip . A similair thing happened with my pc monitor which played up after 11 months . The customer service ( Ha Ha ) staff where rude and abrupt when I explained that it would be difficult to live without my pc for a month while being repaired so i've decided to live with the dodgy acer until it finally gives up ( a little knock on the top usually brings it to life !) . I 'm not the type to complain and don't like being confronted by their bullish staff on the customer service desk , there is just no human touch or understanding of their customers needs once you've bought the product . You get treated like a thief who wants a free ride . I just expect a bit more when I spend a few quid on houshold products I don't want to spend several hundred pounds a year on these goods .
My wife told me never to shop there again. But last june I was walking past and saw a nice digital camera . Foolishly I went and bought it. After 4 weeks while on holiday it developed a fault, it kept swithing off and would come back on intermittently . On return I took it back and accepted that they would send it away for repair . It took four weeks to get it back, the problem still occured but less frequent , until yesterday . It finally died after 7 months of aggro. I took it to the store today and they offered to repair it again ,apparantly they can keep sending the camera away for repair I said this wasn't good enough and was met with the rudest members of staff I have ever encounted . They kept saying it is 'our policy' but couldn't show me a copy of the policy as they didn't have one in store . The customer service manager shrugged her shoulders and said 'you can try ' when i said i will seek legal advice to get a replacement . In all, today at the customer service desk was a far cry from the service I received from the sales staff which proved to me that comet are only interested in your money not your satisfaction . I will pursue this furthur and advise anyone else to shop at Currys , in my opinion theyre policy is more customer friendly . Rant Over
