Advantages: None

Disadvantages: you ose all your money

My daughter likes to play SIMS 2 ( a PC game) on our home PC, so we went into our local branch of COMET, (APSLEY, near HEMEL HEMPSTEAD) to buy a laptop that she could play the game on in her room. We told the sales person we were buying the laptop to play SIMs, and she recommended an ACER ASPIRE 5920G.

Got it home and the game wouldn't play.

Turns out after contacting the ACER help desk, that the spec of the laptop sold to us is inadequate; and I quote "the graphics chipset you refer to is known as shared graphics and cannot support 3D games; you will need a dedicated graphics card, either the ATI Mobility Radeon, or the Nvidia GEForce".

Went into Comet, and explained all this and they would not give us our money back. The branch manager "Paul" basically intimated that we should have known what we needed, and that if he were selling to us he would have recommended a higher spec.

We are left with no choice but to take them to court.

Be warned. Do not expect advice on which PC to buy. They will sell you anything, even if it is totally unsuitable.

Summary: Comet suck

We explained at the time what we going to use the computer for. They are the experts not us.

Anyway, I took them to the small claims court, and we won.

I would advise anyone else to go to John Lewis. There, they will refund your money.

Did you seriously expect the salesperson to know exactly what specifications each and every game on the market requires?

If you had taken the Sims 2 box into store and shown the salesperson the required specs list, and then they sold you an incorrect PC, I could understand your frustration.

I 've worked in an electrical retailers, and there are so many people who don't full specify what they want, and then get irate when they don't get something which they didnt ask for.

Should the salesperson be expected to know what The Sims 2 requires? Or should you have gone into Comet and said "I want to buy a computer which plays The Sims 2, which requires it to have these specifications..... X,Y,Z"
