Advantages: Too may staff, fairly cheap prices and good returns policy.
Disadvantages: A lot like Curry's...
My Experience -
I am not going to go into too much detail about comet; there are so many reviews here that I'm sure you know what the store is all about. Basically they are an electrical retailer with hundreds of stores nationwide and operating in 12 countries. I am simply going to explain my recent experience with them, which I have to say was quite pleasant.
As was looking for a TV, Cinema system and stand around 3 months ago, I had been on Dixons website and had visited Curry's on a few occasions to discuss with a salesman how much he could offer it to me. He gave me a price which I was fairly happy with and it wasn't until he started trying to sell me loads of add-ons that I decided to do a runner, they also didn't have any stock of the TV I wanted and suggested I drove 20 miles to collect it, I proposed I got a discount for travelling but he said no, so off I went to Comet.
I walked in and said to one of the salesman I wanted that TV, that sound system and a stand for this price, he actually did the whole lot for cheaper, in total is was around £80 less than I was going to pay at Curry's. They also had plenty of stock available ready to take away there and then which I appreciated.
I agreed to purchase the goods and said I wanted to take advantage of the buy now and pay in 9 months option which was easily taken care off. I simply signed a contract at the point of sale and I was done. There weren't any incriminating questions and all was over in a few minutes.
I would warn you however the contract is a standard one, even if you take the buy now pay alter option, you will still get a contract saying 48 instalments with a high interest rate, this only take effect however if you don't pay you bill back in time.
The goods were quickly brought up to me on a trolley which was wheeled out by one of the employees, who then further helped me get the goods into my car. The only small problem I had was that one of the speakers was fuzzy when the speakers were put at a higher volume, I simply took this back WITHOUT my receipt and it was changed there and then, no questions asked.
The Store -
The store is very well organised, there is a section designated for all different types of appliance, and they are all clearly marked out. The Televisions are all connected up, and the latest models are connected to high definition inputs so you can see the picture quality at its best.
The prices are all fairly high street standard, although I really would suggest haggling, don't assume that the price they have on display is what you have to pay, often if you are buying more expensive goods the manager can do a 10% discount or maybe even more.
I find the staff helpful, but if you do your research before you go in you can often catch them out, they don't often know as much as they should perhaps, especially management. I also find there are usually six or seven of them hanging around in a group; I can imagine it could be quite intimidating for some if they wished to approach one. I did mention to the manager he has a ridiculous amount of staff and he just shrugged, obviously sales must be good.
Overall a good store with a few minor faults, if you ask the questions however they give the answers and returns seem fairly hassle free. I would suggest shopping there, although check online at Dixons.co.uk first, they did have my merchandise cheaper but it was going to take around a month to get the stuff if I chose to do the buy now pay later option, with Dixon's there is a lot of paper transferring between you and them before you get the goods.
Summary: Worth visiting.
