Advantages: customer care and insurance (so far)
Disadvantages: engineers
Well over the last 5 years i have purchased a large quantity of electrical goods from mainly comet. One of the first things to go wrong was a free view box after 2 days of installing it (i think we payed around £80 for it 4 years ago). I called comet and they told me to go instore to replace it, so i merely jumped into the car to comet. Spoke to the same advisor who agreed without hesitation to replace it for me. So good so far yes?
The next thing to go wrong was the flat panel TV, i purchased this about 4 years ago as well, only with this product i thought i would purchase the insurance (full accidental cover etc etc for 5 years). So the problem with the screen 4 years on was anytime there was a blue background on the right hand corner of the screen there would be a glaring red ball, every time!! So i called comet on the helpline number who arranged an engineer to come out within 48 hours, surely enough this happend and the engineer waved his magic wand and all was fixed....Untill (oh yes the dreaded words) about 1 week later we were watching a doucumentory under the sea (well we werent under the sea we were in our lounge but anyway you get what i mean) and there it was staring me in the face and the problem is once you know its there you look for it so it totally spoils your viewing pleasure. So anyway, I call comet again, the engineer comes out again and this time says "Uh Oh, this is going to need a replacement tube" ill get this taken in to the store for repair!" So i said "Uh ang on a cotten darn pickin minute matey, how much is that going to cost?" "Surely its cheaper to write the thing off it 4 years old for goodness sakes" The engineer looking a little stunned disagreed with me and instruected me that if i had any problems i should take it up with HQ. I wasnt overly happy by his responce so i contacted comet direct and they said they were happy to look at the tv once in for repair to make sure it was either a repair or write off and would call me once the decision was made. So everday twice a day I was calling them to find out what was happening and to be fair to all of the team that i dealt with they didnt get flusterd or bad tempered once (i know im sure i would of if i had some guy calliing me up all the time). So eventually after about 5 days they eventually told me the news i was loning for "yes sir you were correct its beyond economical repair.
So in summary: I got what i wanted and really have never had a bad experience with comet, to date i have purchased washing machine, fax, 2 laptops, fridge freezer, printer, scanner, photo copier, free view box, phone, JVC TV, SONY TV, PANASONIC TV, DVD recorder and i think thats about it... I think there is a moral to this story, if you have a problem with a retailer persist and everytime you speak to someone WRITE it down (there name the time the date what was said etc etc) and chuck it back at them everytime they change their mind!! Im sorry some of you have had problems but i hope the above paragraph might help in future.
