Advantages: Prices - and only then if the gear actually works.
Disadvantages: Once they have your money, they're just not interested.
I'm just amazed that anyone ever uses Comet any more. Their attitude to customers - once they have your money - is so appalling I can only assume they're confident that every new 'discount' advertising campaign will bring in more mugs, so current customers aren't worth worrying about. To be fair, they seem to be right.
I've been bitten twice - and I only have myself to blame for the second time, I suppose.
The first time, I bought a small but expensive pocket planner. Sold as new (the box was open, but I was assured for demonstration purposes only) - it didn't work properly. Though it worked well enough to reveal a year's personal files from the previous owner who had returned it for the same reason as me! I got nowhere with the store's manager, and a letter to Comet HQ brought only platitudes. I got a refund only after trading standards intervened.
The second time - at a different store which had just opened near me, I bought a mobile phone. When I tried to register it, I found it was already registered to someone else. I then discovered it had a 3rd-party battery, not the manufacturer's original. Returning it to the store I got dog's abuse from the female manager who actually called me a liar to my face. I got my refund after a shouting match (and, no - I wouldn't come into the office - we'd do this in front of the public). But I was enraged enough to contact Comet HQ - who offered platitudes but no resulting action.
In my opinion, dishonesty isn't incidental in Comet stores - it's company policy.
I made the same mistake twice - I won't ever be making it again. I won't even set foot in their stores these days.
Summary: Stay away - how many people have to complain before Joe Public gets the message?
