As with most people I try to avoid the Christmas shopping rush like the plague. All those people with pent up festive shop rage, no thanks. So like the number of sensible people I try to get many of my Christmas gifts via the net.

I had decided that I was going to buy my partner a Playstation 2 this year, anything to keep him occupied and me sane.

I scanned the web carefully hunting out the best bargains. PS2 were going for about £230 on the high street, but as with most things you can normally find it on the web, with a saving. I consulted www.shopsmart.com and compare the prices, there were a few companies that were a little cheaper but I opted for a name I recognized and visited www.comet.co.uk. Their online price for a PS2 was about £197, with free delivery.

Having made my mind up, I decided to purchase the PS2 from their site. The site itself was clear and simple to use, with good functionality and minimum fuss. I added the item to the basket and proceeded to checkout. The checking out process was very simple; I entered my details and card number and was overjoyed to find that I was offered not only my choice of delivery day, but also my preferred time of delivery. I was amazed, many times when you buy online you take potluck with your delivery, things either turn up promptly or seem to get diverted via New York and Sydney and turn up a month later than you had been promised them!

Well my order had been placed, my delivery booked for the following Saturday between 8am and 1pm. I had thought that knowing my luck with deliveries it would turn up at 12.55pm and I would have to spend the whole morning pacing the floor. There is nothing worse than knowing that something is due to arrive but having to wait till the last minute to be able to go out and get on with what you need to be doing, especially at this crazy time of year. I hadn’t even had chance to start pulling my hair out when the deliveryman knocked at the front
door. It was 8.30am. I took the package and signed, the package was quite well disguised so prying eyes could not tell what the delivery was. The external box was much bigger that the PS2 box so it was very deceptive. There were no brands plastered all over the box so that couldn’t give it away. When I opened the box, the PS2 was very well packed and it pristine condition.

With the package I received an envelope containing a receipt for my purchase, I was pleasantly surprised when I opened it. The price I had been charged was less that I was expecting, not by a lot but I had received a 2% manager’s discount. This took the price down to £194 with free delivery. The envelope also had a comprehensive guide to refunds and exchanges and also information on their home delivery service, it contained relevant information, contact details and help-line phone numbers. They also for those of us who are interested in recycling, they promise that they will remove and recycle packaging on large item (like cookers) when asked and they even do this in the back of their van to avoid your carpet getting messy. Now that’s what I call good service.

I can definitely say I was very pleased with the service I received from Comet and would recommend them to anyone. The exceeded all my expectations and I will certainly use them again.
