Advantages: Low prices

Disadvantages: Lousy customer service, Rude when problems occur

I reckon that Comet's good value, If you know what you want, need little expert advice or help from salespeople, and are lucky enough to buy an item that has no faults, then you can't do better.

However, once you get your shiny new purchase home and find problems with it, prepare to give up the next few weeks of your life to getting them put right.

I bought a food processor. When I got home, a couple of attachments were not in the box. It took me about half a dozen phone calls, including me getting very angry when they told me to return to the shop and they would hunt for the missing parts, before they would agree to order the parts and post them to me (they were only small parts). About a month later, I had a complete food processor.

This experience was easy compared to the adventure I had when I bought a new fridge. It was delivered on the right day (which I'd had to take off) and put in the kitchen. The delivery van disappeared round the corner, and I noticed that door didn't shut properly. On phoning Comet, all they would offer was that an "engineer" would come round to fix it. They couldn't guarantee a time or come weekends/evenings, so they were expecting me to take another day off. The "engineer" could only come to my district on particular weekdays. I can't use all my leave waiting for Comet! They refused to listen to my protestations, and when I said that I then didn't want the fridge, and would they come and take it away because it did not satisfy my requirements of being fit for its purpose, they told me they couldn't guarantee when they would come and I would have to spend a day at home waiting for them.

Eventually my neighbour happened to be in on the day the "engineer" turned up, let him in, and all was fixed. The fridge is now fine. But why should I have gone through all that stress and been expected to lose a day's leave because they so
ld me substandard goods?

Despite the low prices at Comet, I have not bought anything there since.

Comet and Currys are now both blacklisted for me due to numerous customer relations problems including the Video Recorder from Hell that took over a year to sort out.

Very valid gripe.. and op.
I have used Comet loads, they have a big store 5 mins walk from me.. I have had bad buys but have to say they have always been good about repairs/replacements. But I am lucky enough to be able to pop in the shop... and "face to face" they seldom argue.
