Advantages: good prices, (some) friendly people, plenty of help
Disadvantages: costs a little more
hello my name is jamie and i have worked at comet for a year now. I only work at comet for the weekends and really cant see why anyone would want to be a salesman there as it is not the type of job that you get money or respect from. I have read many of peoples opinions of the salesmen and women in comet and i do agree with you about SOME if the salesmen and women being pushy. The real reason that they are like this is they DO NOT earn hardly any commission unless they work at it and some salesmen and women only think about what they are earning and not what the customers needs are. I on the other hand DO NOT. I enjoy talking to customers not to sell them stuff and earn commission (although i do earn quite a bit) because i am a person too and a sociable one at that. I am down to earth with customers and talk to them about EXTENDED GARANTEES not because it earns me money but that they are very beneficial. FOR INSTENCE you have just spend lets say £70 on a hoover and i talk to you about what is called an I.R.C (instant replacement cover). It costs just £18.99. as soon as i have said this most people instantly think a)"for a £70 hoover?" b)"its cheap enough to replace or" c)"its got a 12 month garantee with it anyway" now think about this, you hoover goes bust in the 12 months and you didnt take the cover. You bring it in the store to be repaired, you wait for 20 minutes for them to fill out the form and then they check the hoover to confirm what you have said is wrong with it. they then take it off for repairs which will be back with you in two weeks tim (TWO WEEKS WITHOUT HOOVERING!) and you get back your REPAIRED hoover. now lets get to the point if you spent a pathetic £18.99 and it went bust in THREE years you take it back to the store, tell us what is wrong with it and we give you a new hoover that very day, AND the rest of the cover goes onto your NEW hoover, (probably a
couple of models up aswell because your old model does not exist!) sure people think that all salesmen are in it for the money but NOT me. I enjoy working there as most of the customers i meet make me happy and i get a reward out of the job knowing i have helped someone make the right decision. what is even more rewarding is when they come back. in some cases the warantees ARE ridiculous (like a kettle or toaster) but if you think logically about what you are saying no to you might regret it when you stick you hand in your pocket a couple of years later i hope i have given you a little insight into the mind of a salesman (or maybe just my mind!) and i hope that there are other salemen out there that enjoy there job like i do. You can t go to a job that you dont enjoy thank you

- 01/05/03 This is just defending your employer, and even the review contains the warranty sales pitch!
The insight would be useful, if you at least wrote the review from the point of view of customers. If you could tell us how to say "no" to the extended warranty in under 5 seconds that would be a really useful tip. |

- 07/11/02 A very good point that you have made. It goes to show that you are not all aliens and robots.
i will listen in the future on what you salesmen have to say |

- 19/10/02 Welcome to dooyoo and it is nice to see the other side. I don't buy extended warranties, maybe because up to now I have been lucky. |
