Advantages: It has potential
Disadvantages: Subjective amateur reviews
Currypages.com bill themselves as the UK’s premier Indian Restaurant guide but while it may have that potential I wouldn’t say it lives up to its description at the moment. As with Dooyoo this ‘guide’ relies on reviews from the public and only time will tell if it might become the premier guide. It is a very simple site, easy to navigate and the search facility works reasonably fast. It has only a few sections: City Search, Top Eateries, Dish Glossary, Poll, and Links. The idea is very simple you enter a town or city in the search box and it lists all the Indian restaurants it has on the database at that time. The listing will indicate whether the restaurants has a rating e.g. 6/10 and review . The reviews I read were very short but there may be more detailed ones elsewhere. But you can add your own comments and rate the restaurants yourself. They are rated for food, service and overall. If your favourite restaurant is missing you can make an entry for it in the Feedback section. Top Eateries allows you to browse all the restaurants with a high rating. My own home town listed 9 highly rated restaurants, 5 of which had been reviewed. The Dish glossary is quite a useful feature in which short descriptions of various dishes are given along with a ‘heat’ rating. Here too you have the opportunity of adding a dish or description. The links page has a small but well annotated selection of curry links including the Curry club, an Indian Food Guide and a curryholics page. This site could be very useful for the travelling curryholic who is desperate to find a decent restaurant in a strange town. Web address: http//www.currypages.com
