      Strange but also enticing

Last year when I went around all of the places in London I invariably hadn't been to yet, I had to go to Camden, and after grabbing some Chinese and following the plume of cannabis smoke you can smell from about a mile away, I came across Cyberdog, a very peculiar shop tucked away in a little alcove of Camden Town. Due to their popularity they have become a franchise, although this is surprising given that you always see a lot of people in there, but I always assumed it was out of curiosity rather than the need to actually buy something.

The shop specialises in futuristic-style clothing that is often used by ravers and lovers of trance music so they can stand out when the UV-lights are used. It's all too apt that in Camden, the most hippie-ish place in London, that they have a shop that caters to this kind of thing, and they clearly have their niche market very much targeted.

The shop mostly has brightly coloured shirts with quirky designs, such as oddly anthropomorphic robots, and other cyberpunk-inspired futuristic designs. They also have some more...unconventional clothing, such as what their website terms as "head systems", which are basically strange kits that make you look like something out of Star Trek, specifically a member of the Borg! Why anyone would wear this I have no idea, but it is amusing to look at it, if only to wonder - a) why has someone made this and b) who, honestly, would wear it? The answer of course lies in the fact that drugs make people do many things...There are more conventional "stoner apparel" items, though, like glow sticks and flashing pairs of glasses, so it isn't all strange..

I'd never buy anything from there, I don't think, as I'd be too embarassed to wear it out, but it's still a fun shop to visit, with all of that lovely Camden chinese just a few seconds away!

      Disadvantages

      An overall wonderful shopping experience

      Stores
Cyberdog has a few stores around Britain, their biggest being the Camden store, which has recently moved to new premises. They are neat, tidy, clean and inviting shops with extremely friendly and helpful staff. I've had many pleasant experiences in Cyberdog.

On a side note- If in Camden visit Cyberdog just for the fun of it! The place is more like a night-club than a shop. Robots tower around the entrance and on certain days they have live dancers! It really is worth seeing.

Cyberdog's online store is also brilliant. You do, however, need to have a really good look at things as all colour options, patterns etc. are not shown on untill you click on the individual item.

Have ordered many times from the online website and products have arrived within a few days or order. However, the P&P is about average, but seeing as a pair of trousers can cost up to £150 i think P&P should be free.

      Clothing

Clothing from Cyberdog is normally very high quality. This costs you dearly though!

Have had one dress in particular for around 5 years. Has been worn hundreds of times, and washed as many and remains as good as new. However, many designs are made of stretchy 'lycra' type fabrics and the stitching on these can be slightly hit-and-miss.

Overall, Cyberdog have some really great clothes. Lots of unusual materials used such as UV-reactive and glow-in-the-dark patterns and prints, flouro colours and plastics and foams.

      Cost

The biggy! Cyberdog clothes are beautiful and unique but you do pay dearly for this. Here are a few prices for the cheapest and most expensive of certain items available:

      Girls trousers £15-£90
      Girls skirt £20-£55
      Girls dress £22-£90
      Girls tshirt £20-£25
      Girls vest £18-£60

      Mens trousers £60-£148
      Mens tshirt £20-£85
      Mens top £26-£32

However... I have had some real bargains! Keep you eye out for reduced items. From the online store I once bought a top and a dress for £5 each!!! Also got some reduced items from Cyberdog Manchester which were on 3 for 2, receiving 2 dresses and a Tshirt for £30!

      Sizes

Here is the grumble-part for many. Cyberdog clothes (at least the womens) seem to be cut quite short. Lucky for me (at 5'1'' tall), Cyberdog trousers are the only trousers from a non petite range that fit perfectly without cutting inches off and re-hemming. Beware of this though ladies, if you are particularly tall/leggy trousers in particular could be too short.

A lot of items are 'one size'. I would say these would fit a size 6-10. Beware also busty ladies. Some of the bustier- tops aren't really designed for anyone above a B/C cup.

Overall Cyberdog is great. Innovative and individual. You can buy silver chaps and matching bustiers for all your rave needs, but their range of cute little cotton mix dresses and leggings are great for everyday wear if you want to inject a touch of 'cyber' to your trip-to-the-supermarket look.

      Advantages

      Disadvantages

Why pay loads for clothes that look like they don't fit you?

      STYLE

Cyberdog is an alternative fashion brand coming more and more into the mainstream of the last few years. Comparable to the likes of Pen and Lolly, Spank and other purveryors of club wear, Cyberdog set the bar by creating almost space-age style designs far above and beyong the standard fluffy legwarmers and lycra hotpants you see so much in the club scene today. Cyberdog instead use interesting cuts, materials & patterns, leaning towards more Fruits/Harijuku style cutting edge design, rather than the 'Nu Rave' stuff you might find in the bargain bin of New Look

      WEBSITE

The website is simple to use and pretty standard. I like the fact each item shows various views from different angles- although this is neccesary considering some of the more eccentric designs. I am also glad Cyberdog have branched out into stocking other products (such as hair dye for example) which match the look or lifestyle they are trying to market. This is what puts Cyberdog above and beyond many fashion brand websites by not sticking to simply own brand clothing.

      STORE

I only ever visited the shop in Camden many years ago and not sure if it is still there to this date. The store made the website pale in comparison and was more like a nightclub than a shop. The UV lights fitted everywhere really made the neon products standout and you definetly got a more tactile sense of what you were buying.

Whereas the website would only appeal to those already interested in Cyberdog and willing to trawl through the pages of samey looking garments- the store drew all types of people in. My only complaint was the pounding music and club lights gave me a headache quite quickly so I couldn't be in the store too long!

      PRICE

As you can imagine for specialist clothing like this prices are pretty extortionate. With signature style tops averaging about £30 and dresses around the region of £90, you can see that they are a luxury only buy as you are a trillionaire. Even still though most of Cyberdog wear is not for everyday use but for dressing up on special nights so some might consider it worth it.

I always take the cheap way out and constantly scour Ebay for 2nd hand versions of their stuff for a tiny fraction of the cost.

      SIZING

Note: FEMALE MODELS ON CYBERDOG WEBSITE ARE PETITE- VERY SHORT AND SLIM- TAKE THIS INTO ACCOUNT WHEN ORDERING

This is my biggest issue with the brand- most or all of the clothing (at least for women) is one size only which just doesn't work in the modern day and age.

I am a size 12, 5'8 so pretty average all round, yet all their tops only come upto my midriff which is very annoying. Especially as the clothes on the model on the website seem to come down to her waist- it is only through buying ill fitting clothes now that I have managed to work out she must only be 5 foot or something!

Considering the average size in the UK is a 16, Cyberdog are very behind the times making 1 size clothing that only targets the size 8-12 market. For this reason I have given them a lower rating until they start making clothes larger than Small-Medium or develop a Plus Size range!

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

The site is very modern in design using flash animation all the way through, although this can get annoying as it makes the page or section take ages to load. Other than that problem the site is reasonably easy to get around. The site is laid out so when you finally make it to the main page there’s a menu on the left with a box taking up the middle and right is a screen where the items appear. Available on the site through the Virtual Shop: The company offers a reasonable range of men’s clothing, women’s clothing, accessories and music. The sections include: -Trousers Includes a range of trousers for men and women. -Jackets Men’s and women’s hooded top and jackets. -Skirt Dresses and skirts for women -T-Shirts The T-shirts are split into three sections; cyber tee, standard and light tee (my favourite) -Tops Girls tops basically! -Accessories Collars, bracelets, armour that glows in black light, watches and hair holders. -Music Dance and club music that you can buy through the website. Other sections on the site include News about updates, Earth stations- where you’re nearest stores are, interaction with some games and puzzles you can play. Over all the website has good clothes at a not bad price for what they are but the only down fall is the heavy use of flash which lets it down as it could be just as effective in HTML and easier to navigate.

              Advantages

              Disadvantages

Cyberdog.co.uk is one of the coolest web sites you will ever come across. Its more than just a clothing and accessories site, and is so slick and well designed you will be sure to be lured into placing an order soon after a few visits. Cyberdog is the home of all those funky clothes you may have seen if you are a clubbing regular. If you have ever wondered where people get those strange rubberised shirts, fluorescent trousers, electric powered T-shirts and all the other "crasher kid" accessories you see Cyberdog is probably the place they got them. The web site welcomes you in with a black starry background and lots of cool flash text and sound. Let the intro run through and you will be presented with an option screen. You'll notice the strange "Cyberdog" space ship that is the company's logo (it features in all their designs - once you've visited the site you will notice just how many people are wearing Cyberdog gear in clubs). Select one of the options and you'll be whisked off to another part of the site by the cyber ship, all to a funky dance track. The site is broken up into areas including Earth stations (Store locations), News (new stores, new collections & job vacancies) Contacts, Interaction (which includes a picture puzzle game and public gallery) and the Virtual Store itself. Enter the Virtual Store and you can shop for those wacky clubbing items you've seen on the dance floor. The light-tee's (T-shirts with a cool electronic panel that illuminates at the flick of a switch) are my favourite item on the site. They are quite pricey, at £40 each, but look cool and are easy to wash thanks to the removable light panel. Items are categorised well, in groups such as trousers, tops, T-shirts etc. each item is clearly illustrated, in all colours. A size chart is included to help you get your order right first time (more about that later) Ordering is simple, and can be done
on-line or over the phone using your credit or debit card. The site is secure, and easy to use. Telephone ordering can take time, as the lines seem quite busy. Delivery costs £3.50, and orders are normally dispatched to you on the same day. Should you get your sizes wrong, or find the item is not quite what you wanted returns are simple and quick. Simply pack the item up in the original wrapping, send it back and you'll be refunded full price (minus postage) I ordered the wrong size shirt and had a replacement dispatched and the refund credited to my account in just two days. All in all Cyberdog is a great web site. It’s THE place to go for that different looking outfit for a hard nights clubbing. Even if you don’t want any cyber gear its worth a visit just for the great design of the site itself.
