Advantages: Easy to use, good selection, helpful customer service.
Disadvantages: Delivery times quite long, not all brands available on the site.
The home page of the site features the seasonís main items or advertises any special offers Debenhams is currently running, at the moment itís advertising their 25% off two day spectacular (which is currently online until Sunday so if youíre looking for a bargain you best be quick). Along the top and bottom of the page are lists of options which will take you off to various sub sections of the site. The home page itself is visually appealing with a lot of bright colours normally being incorporated and yet it still retains a sense of simplicity at the same time too.
The shopping departments are on view along the top of the page and include womens, lingerie, accessories, mens, kids, electricals, home & furniture, and flowers. By clicking on any of these choices youíll be taken to a new page which solely focuses on that particular style. For example, under the womenís category youíll find several icons including new arrivals, hot new looks, shop by brand, skirts, tops, knitwear, etc. On the left hand of the page is also a list of the designers that Debenhams features which will transport you straight to their collections. Once youíve selected the type of item you want to look at youíll be taken to a new page which then features further sub categories of the item youíve selected. This makes it a slightly lengthy process to reach just a single item but it allows you to select the exact style you wish to view, e.g. knitwear and long cardigans so that the searching through the items process is reduced. 16 items are presented on each page with a quick select menu on the left hand side to allow you to jump to different pages easily. Each item is shown via a picture, a title and a price but for anymore information youíll be required to click on the item. Itís simple to add it to your basket, merely select a size and quantity and click ďadd to basket.Ē To quicken your search further thereís an option on the left hand of the page to select the price range or the colour of the item youíre ideally looking for which again saves you searching through multiple pages.
Once youíve finished shopping and added all the items you wish to purchase to your basket itís merely a case of checking out as you would in any shop. By clicking on check out youíll be asked you register an account with Debenhams, this makes it easier to buy quickly in the future. Youíll be asked to provide an email address and a password so you can access your account again and also basic information such as name, address and of course payment details. These will all be stored on a secure system for future usage. As with any site thereís a delivery charge which is typically £3.50 and goods will be delivered in 5-7 days, thereís also a next day delivery option for an extra charge which can be anything from £4.50 to £15 depending on how much you spend.
Weddings Ė the site basically offers you everything youíd need to plan your wedding from a clothing section to a stationary section and even a step by step guide to everything youíll need! Thereís also the chance to set up a wedding list and select items that you wish to receive then your guests can log in, select an item, pay for it and hey presto itíll be delivered to your door!
Christmas Gifts Ė this is an option that Iíve only just discovered today but offers you ideas for Christmas presents for him, her, the kids, the home and other typical areas such as fragrance and beauty too. Each section will give you a couple of ideas or categories to choose from as well as offering gift experience ideas (e.g. dry a Ferrari for a day) and you can even form your own Christmas gift list for your family to choose from!
Thereís also several options listed along the bottom of the page to aid in your shopping experience: -
Contact Us can provide you with information regarding emailing, phoning or writing to Debenhams customer service. Typically phone calls should always be answered immediately, emails can take anything from 2 to 48 hours and Iíve never personally wrote to Debenhams. Security Info is rather a basic pop up window which just assures you that theyíll store your personal details with the greatest attention to security, bet youíll feel better after reading that of course! Privacy Info is very similar to this option as well and just reassures you that they wonít disclose your information to any third parties.
Next up is the Delivery Info which will give you a guide to delivery costs for your goods, the majority are priced at £3.50 but you can also order gift vouchers for £1 or opt for store pick up which is free. Returns Policy informs you that you can return the goods to any store with a receipt within 28 days of purchase or you can also call a number to arrange for the goods to be collected direct from your house. Lastly the Help option offers you a quick guide to using the site, rather self explanatory really!
The site is extremely bright and colourful so will immediately attract your attention. I find it really easy to navigate the site and find the items Iím looking for although it does take a bit of practice to get used to the rather lengthy search process. It can take about 15 minutes to get to the correct category but this time is reduced once youíve searched the site a couple of times. What I tend to prefer about this site to other sites is that thereís no information overload, the information you are given is always relevant and succinct.
The only disadvantages that Iíve found when it comes to shopping is the fact that the site doesnít feature all the high street brands that the store stocks. Depending on the size of the Debenhams store you can expect to find a variety of high street stores which unfortunately are drastically reduced on the website. Secondly Iíve got to mention the delivery times themselves, the majority of sites offer delivery within 2-5 days typically but with Debenhams delivery can be anything up to a week, not ideal if youíve got a time schedule!
Apart from that Iíd certainly recommend this site to anyone, if you donít want to pay the delivery charges you can opt to pick up in a store or have them delivered directly to your door. The site is easy to use and the item selection process ensures that youíll only be presented with items that you specifically want. So treat yourself this Christmas, and before Sunday youíll save up to 25%!
