Advantages: free phone and extras, good deals
Disadvantages: what you see is what you get
To be fair, I was satisfied the whole year I was with them. HOWEVER (and isn't this always the way?!) the minute I tried to leave... I really don't know why I bother! Exactly 1 year before BT Cellnet wouldn't let me go when I wanted to go with Dial-a-Phone. I too was captured but one of those many, many leaflets that seem to appear everywhere. Ooh, the latest Nokia, free minutes (that rollover) a free camera, different phone cases, in-car charger ... and ALL for only £9.99 a month (plus £2 itemised billing)! And yes it was great for 11 months. Apart from that the 'free' in-car charger ... didn't ever arrive, but still being stressed by BT Cellnet, I decided I really couldn't be bothered. Having learnt from my previous experience, I called Dial-a-Phone 4 weeks before the full year was to up to cancel. This part was fine (touch wood I only called them yesterday!), but? You see my dilemma is that I'm a language student and will be spending the next academic year abroad therefore there is no point in me paying for several months contract if I won't be able to use them. So I have decided to change to PAYT. I spoke to the nice people in the Vodafone shop who told me this is fine, they can change me over, I get to keep the same number and phone, even the same SIM card and they even give me £5 credit. Excellent! All I need to do is let my contract provider know. Superb! However, Dial-a-Phone claim to know nothing of this and once I cancel my contract with them, they will cancel my SIM card and that's that. So my verdict is: Dial-a-Phone offers great deals if all you want it what's on the leaflet, because that is all you get. The Vodafone shops are quite friendly but can't actually do anything. The Vodafone helpline assistants are very friendly and seem to know what they are talking about, unfortunately they can't help you because Dial-a-Phone is standing in the way. But, and this
is something I feel very strongly about, don't go anywhere near BT Cellnet!
