dv247 online store
In mid-November we bought a Limited Offer with an announced delivery 3-12 days.
Since the price was very reasonable compared to other providers,
the promised delivery time was still acceptable.
The credit card was immediately charged.
Shortly thereafter, a notice stating that the product isn't in stock until 12/01/2010
(although nothing on the supply side pointed to that).
Easily angered, we accepted the delay.
The next weeks were more news: Sorry, blah blah ...
...will arrive stock 12/15/2010, 12/24/2010, 12/30/2010, 01/11/2011 ....(?)...
Even today, on 01/04/2011, in the shop is not pointed out, that the article is currently not available.
This possibly will other people cause to get the same problems.
This behavior is not ok and it leaves an impression of unfair competition because the very reasonable
product is been declared as a limited offer, but actually it's not available.
This is to the detriment of other traders, where the regular price for the goods much higher.
Just unprofessional management or a teaser?
We'll see .........and report.
I have had some good experiences with dv247. For some items. they have had the best prices I could find on the Internet and some goods have arrived next day.
One the other hand I am not sure I like (OK I choose to accept it so can not complain) money taken before despatch and I am doubtful about the reliability of the stock/expected delivery information.
I know for example that a pack of 4 budget jack leads still shown as "normally delivered in 3-12 days" will not be in stock until December.
This item did not cause me a problem and I was refunded promptly but apparently it can take up to 10 days for my bank to clear it.
I'm unsure (although I have read several reports by others so I'm sure my above example is not unique) how widespread the problems with this information is but I can see the potential for disaster with my 2 cons combined.
In a worse case scenario someone wanting a specific "in stock" item would not have the financial resources to purchase from an alternative supplier in time.
As such, I'd suggest anyone needing items quickly should be cautious when dealing with this company.
As an avid musician, I have used DV247.com on several occasions and only have good things to say about it. Firstly, whereas most people would say websites like Amazon.co.uk or Play.com are a one-stop for books or DVDs, I would say that if you are buying digital music equipment then look no further than Digital Village.
Firstly, and most importantly for most, the prices are unrivaled. I have bought numerous items from DV247 and they have always beaten the prices (sometimes by a large margin) of other internet retailers, including Amazon.
Delivery costs are also very reasonable. They currently offer free delivery when spending over £199 (which seems a lot, but it is important to consider that this price is not very much for the type of equipment Digital Village sells; much of which is also very large and heavy. One critisism I must make is that there is a standard delivery cost of £6 on orders under this price, which means that delivery can be a big proportion of the cost of low-priced items. I would therefore recommend that if you want cheap items like amp cables and such, you're better off looking elsewhere.
You get email confirmations that your order has been received, processed and despatched, and Digital Village have also recently improved their delivery service and will now text you to tell you when your order will arrive within a 1 hour time slot. I was told that my recent order would arrive between 1:07 and 2:07 and it arrived at exactly 1:07 down to the minute. Credit to the courier, you might say, but Digital Village put a lot of importance on delivery unlike some online retailers who seem to think their job is done once you have paid for your goods and you are left in the dark about if and when your order will arrive.
Finally, the guys at Digital Village are very knowledgeable and specialised in their area and there is an extensive 'contact us' page where you can get all the information you need in a variety of methods - so you can get all the help you need, a huge benefit in the confusing area of digital music/audio production.
I have ordered from DV247 a few times. I find that their prices are excellent, and the site is easy enough to use, but often their delivery service is really awful. Recently I needed a gig bag for a tour within 10 days (their advertised delivery speed is next day). Within a week it had still not arrived, so I called and they said that although it was in stock they had not shipped it yet!! They said it would definitely arrive the next day. When I called back the next day they told me exactly the same thing, there had been no change and they had not bothered to inform me!!
They were happy enough to cancel the order and refund the costs. But it was frustrating that I had to take matters into my own hands, and ended up going to a music shop and buying a bag at an increased cost to myself because DV247 just could not deliver... literally.
If you are planning on getting musical gear, Digital Village will provide you with the best prices, but if you have any kind of deadline it would be best to look elsewhere.
I bought a Midiman Fast Track Ultra 8R from these guys a while back to record my drums. I'm not sure if they have an actual shop r not, but I ordered with them mail order, and they got it to me in time and at a great price. I ordered it with them over the phone and found the overall process simple and quick. They were very helpful on the phone and not pushy. I also left an initial message with a question and they got back to me within a couple of hours, which was great as the last company i called, forgot to call me back. So overall I was really impressed with the services, from start to finish, and have since ordered a couple of accessories of the site to. The staff were friendly, helpful and efficient. Good work guys I'll be back soon for more gear!
DV247 is a UK music retailer that has been in business for more than 30 years. I first encountered DV247.com online, as their web site kept popping up on Google when I was searching for music equipment, although there are eight stores spread around in the UK. I will comment on both the online store and the physical store in this review
EXPERIENCES WITH THE ONLINE STORE
DV247.com is an easy to navigate web site, although I usually just type in what I am looking for in the search box and have a look through the results list. The biggest promotions and offers are always listed on the front page of the web site.
The first time I dealt with them I was considering a specific product on their web site for a few days, as I thought the price was very competitive at the time. Suddenly one day the price shot up by 10-20%. I then clicked a link they have next to each product description that says "E-mail sales". I wrote a polite e-mail asking if I could please have the product for the old price, and within a day I had an answer saying I may do so. I didn't have a UK credit card at the time and couldn't pay with an international card, so I was given bank details so I could transfer money from my UK bank account. There were some slight delays having the order sent because of the bank transfer taking time to make it onto their account. I then started getting letters from DV247 in the mail saying I hadn't payed. I tried calling them, and was getting quite upset, until I e-mailed the original sales person, and since then I didn't hear anything. I was treated very politely and respectfully by the sales department, but the department sending me letters accusing me of not having paid was a bit of a nightmare. These problems must be all because I paid through a bank transfer and not VISA. Based on this experience, I'd say ensure you have a UK VISA card or that you can go to a shop and pay in cash.
The next time I ordered from them I had my UK VISA card set up, which simplified things greatly. I've called their sales department to have advice in putting together a nice bunch of equipment and then paid by VISA over the phone. I would have used the web site, but if I am spending a lot of money I like to call so I can enquire if there is any way to sweeten the deal. I've only managed to get a couple of free cables when spending a small fortune on equipment, but a free cable is still a free cable. When ordering with VISA, the card is charged immediately, the shipment is sent out the next day, and should arrive shortly after.
The prices are very competitive in the UK market, only beaten by prices in the States, but of course, because of tax it is very limited what can be imported to the UK without paying a fortune in additional fees. It is possible to request a Price Beat on their web sites, so DV247 should be able to match any other UK retailer if they are not already the cheapest alternative.
EXPERIENCES WITH THE PHYSICAL STORE
I've visited a phsyical DV247 outlet a few times. Their staff was helpful and knowledgable. I was enquiring about a guitar brand they did not stock, and they then contacted the distributor for that guitar brand to see if they could manage to get the guitar I wanted ordered for me. I sold them some of my old music equipment, and the sales person was very honest and told me I probably would get better prices on eBay. I still sold them to DV247 out of convenience.
I also asked them about a guitar tech, and they kindly gave me the number of a guitar tech in the area, without any financial gain for them.
DV247.com have a massive stock of music equipment: instruments, software and recording equipment. Everything a musician, engineer or producer could want. Their prices are very competitive, and the staff are knowledgable.
I have used DV247 quite a bit when Ive bought pieces of equipment for my home studio. They offer a very good service and the prices are not bad. I have bought a few things including a ex display KRK RP5 monitor (at a really good price), Auralex foam, M audio DMP3, Shure Sm57 and Sennheiser e604. All these items were purchased without major problem. The delivery service is fantastic, its usually next day delivery for £5.88 or free delivery for orders over £199. The site is very helpful to navigate and they have a helpful customer service number aswell as a forum on the site to help you choose your purchase. The payment method itself is very safe and the site is acredied with various things such as "verified by visa" and "mastercard securecode" so there are no worrys about security. In all this is a very useful store and I am stuggling to find any disadvantages to it. The method of informing about stock levels is not very reliable, I bought something that was out of stock and they said it would take 4 weeks to be in again, so I cancelled my order to buy it somewhere else, but a week later when I looked DV247 had it in stock again! Only a slight problem and might have just been a one off so dont let it put you off from buying from this great store.
