Advantages: struggling to think of any
Disadvantages: Non-existent customer service, can't speak to a staff member, crap returns policy
About two weeks ago I bought a modem/router and wireless card for my laptop from Ebuyer. As this was my first purchase from Ebuyer, I didn't realise they take the first order very seriously and will ONLY deliver to your home address / address of credit card bill.
As I couldn't take an entire day off to wait for CityLink to deliver (anytime between 9am and 5pm I was told by them), they were of course, unable to deliver the goods to me. Ebuyer were great about sending me emails to let me know that CityLink were trying to deliver and the email stated that after 5 days of being held at CityLink offices, the goods would be returned to Ebuyer and I would get a full refund. (CityLink failed to 'card' my flat, so I couldn't even go to their offices to pick my goods up!)
Today my goods have been delivered back to Ebuyer and I can see from their emails to me that they have refunded me the cost of the wireless laptop card. There has been no mention of refunding the modem/router. I checked with CityLink to make sure they delivered both items and CityLink say they delivered back exactly what Ebuyer packaged up and gave them in the first place and that they have a signature, etc. I have tried to ring the Ebuyer helpline but a recorded voice tells me that "all the lines are busy and please call back at a later time" (This is the only message I've ever heard when I call their helpline number). I've sent them an eNote but they never responded to one I sent a week ago so I'm not hopeful at getting a response to that. All in all, I am very alarmed by the situation. I have never encountered such a faceless organisation. It's as if there is no-one there to help you and you end up wondering what sort of organisation you are dealing with. Right now I feel like I've been swindled / duped because I can't get an answer out of anyone, or any clarity on anything from Ebuyer and they've got £70 of my money and I've no idea how I'm going to get it back. It's very scary and I will not ever be using them again, or recommending them to anyone. They may be cheap, but it's so not worth the worry. I'm currently trying to work out what I can do to a) get in contact with them somehow (prob a letter to their HQ) and b) ensure they refund me the cost of the modem/router.
There has got to be other more hassle free online computer companies out there!
Summary: Simply not worth the hassle. You'll be tearing your hair out if it goes wrong.
