Advantages: Very good prices, Huge product range, Lots of stock
Disadvantages: Poor product detail, High P&P
Ebuyer are an internet based retailer of mainly computing hardware, software and a bit of home entertainment. They have a huge product catalogue with very good prices though you may find yourself being stung on P&P. The site is organized into categories, memory, cd drives, monitor etc. When you enter a category you will be presented with a few of their top offers. If you then proceed into the list of all products in that category you have the option to sort the category by price. A slight annoyance at this point is that all prices exclude VAT, for business that is fine but for the home user it is rather frustrating to have to view each item separately just to get the price. The detailed view for each product however is Ebuyer`s major failing point, detailed is not usually the word to describe it. The majority of products do not have any explanation at all other than the title which makes it very hard to decide to buy it or not. This is where knowing what you want comes in, if you have done your research on the manufacturer?s site or another retailer?s then ebuyer are likely to be the cheapest around to actually buy it. Which brings me ebuyer?s other falling point, P&P. It used to be that P&P was £5.99 for all orders under £100 and free above £100. Buying a floppy drive for example means that you may be paying as much P&P as you are for the actual item. Recently they have changed the pricing scheme so as very small orders have cheap P&P however I stress very small orders. If you are buying more than a couple of items then you will be charged the fairly standard £5.49 and they have abolished the free P&P over £100. Standard delivery is 3 day by courier which I have found to be very good, some orders arriving ahead of schedule, but never late. Next day and Saturday delivery options are also available for a surcharge and 5 day delivery for a 20% reduction in P&P costs. Buying requires you to sign up, they store your address b
ut not credit card details which makes it a bit more secure however you need to have your card to hand every time you order. They accept Visa, Mastercard, Switch and Solo which covers the majority of cards in the UK. As long as you know exactly what you are looking for ebuyer are a great company to buy with but beware of the P&P charges.

- 03/12/02 I love internet shopping but some of the P&P charges make it hardly worthwhile as you say. |
