Advantages: 3 Books=£3, No Real Catches, Ipoints offer
Disadvantages: See opinion
You've probably seen the advert somewhere on your internet travels, get three books for three pounds with no commitment. That's Etsp.co.uk's generous offer to you and unlike most book clubs you don't get tied into buying some overpriced books in your first year of membership. The stigma of joining a book club is something that many seem to avoid, what may seem like a good deal at first normally turns out not saving you any money at all. In fact it gives you more hassle. That's why I was skeptical about this offer and didn't take advantage of it for months. However you can join up to Etsp via ipoints and gain yourself 75 points in the process which would put you well on the way to a free/cheap dvd or cd. Plus I'd read a few reports from fellow Ipoints users who vouched for the ease of use in getting the offer and the ipoints. So you go over to estp.co.uk or via the ipoints link, you have a selection of books to use from. Don't get too excited as the selection isn't huge, you get stuff like the Chambers dictionary, various novels, erotic stuff and also practical books giving you help on computer software and writing. I went for the Chambers dictionary, a Microsoft office help book and a listings book for writers. Had I bought these book on the high street I would have been looking at close to fifty pounds for the lot. You make your selections by adding them to a shopping cart and then it's merely a case of entering delivery details. You don't even have to pay for the goods straight away. Your three books are charged at three pounds and there is a £3.95 shipping charge on top. So for your £6.95 you get three quality books and a neat little document bag as a free gift if you like. My selections were sent to me via courier within the week in some sturdy packaging and the books were actually as new as you'd buy off the shelf. I was very impressed. The only catch with the offer and joinin
g is that Etsp will reccomend you a book of the month for a six month period. You'll also get some of the usual brochures advertising the latest books. But as they're online you can simply create an account on their website, pay your bill and decline their reccomendation with the click of the button. You won't be sent anything and a short amount of clicks is nothing to the amount of money you've saved on the books. The only thing negative I would say is that there isn't really a good explanation to how you can pay online and manage your account. It took me a while to find that I had to set up an account even though I'd placed an order through the site already. I can see a few users on dooyoo haven't had a good experience and I can't really comment on that. Certainly from the look of the website I wouldn't say that their products are the most keenly priced on the web, you can definitely get books, dvd's etc cheaper even on the high street. But as an offer I would certainly reccomend it to anyone and with the ipoints link you can really take good advantage as the points were credited to me in a few weeks after the transaction.

- 06/12/03 yeah, they prob aren't too bad, if you get told about the recommended choice before they send it out to you and you have to pay a nice big fee to return it!
BTW is there some law I read about somewhere that if companies send you out products you haven't ordered you can keep them as presents without paying or something? Don't quote me, just rings a bell somewhere. any lawyers out there? Would love to know so etsp customers can rebel! |
