My nightmare started when I bought a smartphone (HTC S710) from Expansys. Two months after purchase, a shard of metal flaked away from one of the keys leaving it sharp. This caused it to get caught on my trousers and thumb whenever I used it. This got worse over time.

On top of this, the plastic coating on the rubber on the edge of the phone started peeling away. For the record, I always take really good care of my phones, especially an expensive one like this. I certainly do not expect issues of this nature after just two months.

In my view, this product is defective and not fit for purpose. Therefore, under the Sale of Goods Act I believe I'm entitled to a full refund. However, Expansys would only offer a repair. I disagreed, adding that there's no guarantee the repaired phone would last beyond 2 months either. No response. After several more emails to their clueless staff, I recieved an email from their Despatch Manager (!?!) confirming their original offer of repair.

In total I wrote 14 emails and got nowhere. The Expansys staff were rude, illiterate and completely uninterested in helping a dissatisfied customer. They even couldn't provide me with the surname of one 'rep' who signed an email using his first name only. If any of you have the misfortune of contacting 'Cameron' all I can say is good luck.

I have since tried (on three separate emails) to get the name and address of the Head of their Complaints department but have not had any response at all from them. They are completely ignoring my correspondance.

I spent good money on a product I thought would last. The product (HTC S710 smartphone) failed to live up to the billing, and Expansys did nothing but make matters worse. Don't get duped by the cheap prices - they're cheap for a reason...

Short of going to court (something no-one wants to do), I don't feel I have any options left, hence this review. If I can prevent anyone from spending their hard earned cash at Expansys, I'll feel better.

AVOID EXPANSYS AT ALL COSTS - THEY ARE NOTHING BUT IDIOTS WHO TAKE YOUR MONEY AND RUN.

henrylamar, I find it suspicious you're so quick to defend them and you only have 1 review, which funnily enough is saying how amazing the company is.

Any decent company would offer a refund or credit note in such a situation - particularly if the manufacturer really is to blame. If you don't want to be held responsible for a product, then don't sell it.

Underworldmagic, you realize that two months after the fact when a manufacturers warranty is in place that your card company won't do anything right. Especially when the company involved attempts to help facilitate a repair when its not their responsibility.

I've used Expansys and loved the experience, they even took care of the warranty issue for me 11 months down the road. I do find it laughable that when a product breaks after 2 months and the company website states its a manufacturer issue that customers still complain when its stated. The folks at Expansys are not illiterate, its people who don't read policies that are.
