Your holiday, Your way!!
Member Name: suavilous
Advantages: Huge choice, very tailored
Disadvantages: May be abit expensive depending on your needs
Wow after reading a few reviews it looks like theres alot of mixed reviews and even the odd one losing money. Thankfully (touch wood) i havent experienced any of that and would now like to write my review on expedia.
I remember seeing the adverts about how they made your holiday to your tailored needs and thought lets see if they are actually doing that or pulling or leg.
I logged on to expedia.co.uk and i was off. You are then greeted by their latest offers in the middle of the page. on the right hand side is there be inspired section which i have never gone onto, sorry. On the left hand side is what we really want. This is where we put in our details and see if it can make our tailo made holiday!
First things first, you have got to pick what you are looking for. Flight only, car only, hotel only or packages. On the right hand side of this is where they have the packages option which they say can save you money. These are flight and hotel, flight plus hotel and car and just flight and car. When you have done that you can then proceed underneath. you then put in where you are leaving from and where you want to go to. You then state how long you want to go for. You then select the number of people going. You then click search. It will then take about a minute or so and give you a full range of options.
You can then customise this for all your needs and narrow the search down, play around with the lfight times until you feel you have found the perfect holiday and can go off to pay. For example i wanted to take my girlfriend for a weekend in paris for her 21st birthday. I also wanted her to see disneyland as she is a disney fanatic and also never been. I went through the usual stuff until it found me a few good options. I wasnt happy with the flight so they found my eurostar which ended up being even better as the station was a 2minute walk from disneyland, 5mins bus ride from my hotel and 30mins away from central paris by train.
What good about this site is that they will always have a few pictures of the hotel, its main features, the closest attractions and then you can read customer reviews which always help.
When continuing through to payment, you get a chance to double check your selection, change the room type, add car hire and travel insurance if you want. As you go along it will then give you options of taking tours around the best parts of the place you are going and also transportation to and from the airport. I must admit it can be tempting to add one of these to the trip but having planned it so well i didnt lol.
As you continue to pay you will need to sign up to expedia. I at first did not knoe about this but signing up was extremely easy. All you need is your name, email address and password. Done! You used to be able to sign up to expedia with your hotmail account but they have got rid of that for some reason.
You then proceed to entering all the people that are coming with you and the contact for your hotel (if you booked one). You can also try and book your preferences to seats if available. Again once thats done you then read through everything you have put it and made sure it right. you then click accept and then pay accordingly. Once that is all done you will be given an email to print off and to show at the airport and hotel. Thats it.
I have booked a few package deals from expedia. I did paris as mentioned breifly above and also a weekend trip to amsterdam. for some reason it didnt accept my payment but once i rang them up, i did it over the phone and also got 2000 nectar points for my girlfriend too. It was quick and simple and the call centre woman was very friendly and again went over my travel arrangements. All booking from the flights and hotels went without problem and all we had to do was enjoy our weekend breaks and holidays.
One particular time i had to cancel a flight due to a friend unfortunately passing away. My flight was unrefundable but they were considerate but needed proof which was abit cheeky but understandable. After i sent over the relevant stuff, it was all sorted by the end of the week. Nice quick service.
The only gripe is that sometimes you can find a better price elsewhere but from my experience thats rare. but i guess if you want your tailored holiday you'll have to pay that bit extra i guess.
Next time you are going on holiday i would definatly recommend you try this. They are very efficient, the service in my experience is very good and i'm sure you'll have a great holiday.
Summary: For all your holiday travel needs
