Advantages: Cheap good quality products

Disadvantages: Not all products are perfect, but then how many brands are perfect?!

About me:
So that you have a better idea if any of this make-up is suitable for you, I think it's important to give you a description of what I look like and my experience with make-up:
I am pretty clueless when it comes to using make-up properly and I particularly find applying eye make-up difficult because I am Chinese with monolids. The main problems are being able to apply eyeliner in a straight line and wearing eye shadow so that it doesn't crease and look awful. But I have seen other Asian girls with great eye make-up so it must be possible!
I have dark brown eyes and black hair so I usually choose black eyeliner/mascara and brown/dark tones for eye shadows. I normally only wear make-up on special occasions or if I'm going out because I normally find it too much of a hassle to put on. However, I have decided to make more of an effort to learn about make-up so that I can create a daily routine that is quick and easy.

I first heard about e.l.f many months ago but I only decided to order from them recently after doing a lot of research and reading reviews online. The general consensus is that the American site (which is the original) is badly run and many customers have to wait a long time for their orders. However, I'm pleased to say this isn't the case with the UK site.

The appeal of e.l.f is obviously the amazingly low prices, with the majority of items only being £1.50 so I thought it was a good place to start to buy my essential items. I don't have a decent set of brushes and I'd read that the ones from e.l.f are just as good as the more expensive brands. They claim that "all e.l.f. professional makeup brushes have been designed and tested by professional makeup artist Scott Vincent Borba. Each brush has been ergonomically designed to fit perfectly into your hand and facilitate a flawless finish with every application" and I would agree with this statement.

This is what I ordered:
* Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner in Black £1.50
This is probably my favourite item that I bought. The applicator is a fine tip sponge, which holds an appropriate amount of liquid and glides on very easily. I have never been able to draw a straight line with liquid eyeliner before, but my first attempt with this eyeliner was the best result I've ever had. It dries pretty quickly and it has quite a pleasant scent. Unfortunately although it states it is waterproof it didn't pass the crying test, as it did smudge when I dried my eyes whilst watching a sad film (Reign Over Me in case anyone's interested! Brilliant film!)

* Duo Eye Shadow in Mocha Swirl £1.50
Wearing eye shadow has always been a problem for me because I have monolids, so when I open my eyes the lids crease up and I get a built-up line of eye shadow. This eye shadow claims to be crease resistant and it does a pretty good job. I have tried it with and without a primer (Urban Decay) and although it is better with the primer, I am pretty pleased with its staying power when worn alone.
There are 6 duo colours to choose from and I really like the Mocha Swirl because the darker shade is great for day-to-day wear and if I want something a bit more noticeable then the lighter shade adds a bit more glamour.
The eye shadow is unscented and the creamy formula glides on really nicely with the Eye Shadow Brush...

* Eye Shadow Brush £1.50
I wish I'd bought more of these brushes, as they're so nice to use! They pick up just enough eye shadow and the application to the eyelid is really smooth. The size of the brush head is perfect to get a nice sweep over the whole eyelid, whilst being able to blend it the colour in.

* Kabuki Face Brush £3.50
I bought this brush to use with some free samples of mineral make-up I bought from Everyday Minerals. The brush seems to be well made and the bristles are very soft and a pleasure to use on my face. The coverage is very good and although a few bristle hairs have come out I still think this is an excellent brush for the price.

* Eyeliner Brush £1.50
Again this brush is very good. The bristles are very soft but at the same time this brush is firm enough to blend in the eyeliner for a smoky look. This brush is perfect for creating eyeliner using eyeshadow (I use Urban Decay Oil Slick which lasts all day) as the line is neat and crisp and you can get it really close to the roots of the lashes.
Unfortunately I don't own any expensive brushes to compare them to (as I could never justify paying over £10 for a MAC brush!) but the e.l.f ones are suitable for my needs so I will buy them again.

* Brightening Eye Liner in Black £1.50
I ordered this eyeliner in case I had no luck with the Liquid Eyeliner. E.l.f claims that the:
Gel-powder formulation infused with skin soothers instantly brightens and glides on smoothly without tugging the delicate eye area. It does certainly glide on smoothly but I didn't see any evidence of it brightening my eyes, maybe because I chose black instead of the 5 other colours they offer. I personally didn't like this eyeliner because it didn't have any staying power and after about an hour I had raccoon eyes with it all smudged under my eyes!

* Slant Tweezer £1.50
I bought these for my fiancé as he's always borrowing my really expensive Tweezerman tweezers! The e.l.f ones are the same design as Tweezerman but they aren't as sharp so it's a bit more difficult to grab really short hairs, but they're good enough for him to pull out any stray hairs he has.

General plus points:
* I wear contact lenses daily and none of the eye make-up irritated my eyes or the skin around my eyes.

* All the make-up comes in attractive, easy to open packaging and you won't be ashamed to have it on your dressing table.

* The brushes are easy to clean (I use Carex Antibacterial hand wash) and none of the bristles came out.

Delivery:
I placed my order on 14 Dec and got an email on 15 Dec to say my order had been dispatched and I received my order a couple of days later.
Standard Delivery is £2.95 or it's free if you spend over £30. I was lucky to get free delivery as they had a special weekend offer which I was notified about via their newsletter that you can easily sign up to at the bottom of the website. So far they haven't sent me any annoying/irrelevant marketing emails so it's worth signing up to.

Summary: Excellent value for money
