Disadvantages: none at all
As times are hard right now I have decided to try some cheaper brands of make up. I find some cheaper brands are terrible and some are so good you wouldn't know it was cheap if you didn't see the brand name. One of the brands I've been trying is E.L.F. E.L.F stands for eyes lips face and the site can be found at www.eyeslipsface.co.uk.
E.L.F believe we should all be able to buy quality cosmetics without sacrificing our budgets and so their range consists of many items that cost £1.50. Eyeliners, lipsticks, lipgloss, eyeshadows, brushes, foundations, powders, mascaras and well, all the usual suspects us ladies buy to beautify ourselves! All these items are available at £1.50 each. There are a few bits that cost more, they sell some mineral items and these cost more than the normal items but not much more. The mineral foundation is £3.50 and the eyeshadows are £2.50 and there's a starter kit that contains mineral foundation, concealer, blusher, brushes and a canvas case for £15.00. So not everything is £1.50 but most items are and the items that cost more are priced way below most other brands.
The site is easy to use, there are sections about where E.L.F have been mentioned, loads of magazines have promoted their products. A "beauty blog" that discusses their latest products and various other topics aimed at females like fit flops and chick flicks. The products are in categories with drop down menus so whatever you're looking for is easy to find. Orders above £30 have free delivery otherwise it is £2.95. Payment is through protx so it is secure ordering.
Now I've got you interested I expect you want to know what the products are like? I was initally a bit wary of buying products so cheap, I've tried a few items from other cheap ranges in the past that have been disastrous and for this reason held off buying from E.L.F for some time. But as my make up got older and my budget got tighter I decided I didn't have much to lose.
I can honestly say the products are excellent. I recently bought a lipgloss for, you guessed it, £1.50 and it's better than the one I usually wear that cost me £6. I've tried a variety of items, the eyeliner I purchased was soft and applied easily and even came with a free pencil sharpener for , yes, £1.50. A 10ml nail varnish for, yep, £1.50 lasted as long as my more expensive versions and looked as good.
Another great idea they have is making your own eyeshadow compact. I don't know about everyone else but when I buy a compact of a few colours there are always a couple I use and the rest I don't so E.L.F have addressed this by offering each colour eyeshadow for £1.50 and a compact you put them in again for £1.50 so you make up a compact you'll use all the colours in. Brilliant! Cheap and no waste from colours you don't use. The eyeshadows are excellent, soft and easy to apply and stay put as long as my Elizabeth Arden eyeshadow. If you do use all the colours in a ready-made compact you can buy eyeshadow quads for £1.50 too.
So what's the service like? I've never had cause to phone them so I can't comment on that but my orders always arrive either the next day or within 3 days. There's never been a mistake on the packing and they email to confirm the order and then to let you know when it was despatched. I can't find fault with them at all.
Any gripes? No, none! It's very unlike me to find nothing to whinge about so I can only say give them a try and see what you think and E.L.F carry on doing what you're doing!
Overall excellent products, amazing prices, fast delivery and an easy to use site. Save yourself some money and go grab a bargain!
Summary: Thoroughly recommended

- 31/01/09 Oh this is new to me... i am going to have a look. The only problem is when I shop online I always buy more then I need and the incentive to spend £30 for free delivery will make me spend more then I intend to! lol. Thanks for the great review. x |

- 31/01/09 Great review. I am dying to trying ELF products, but I have so much make-up at the moment, I don't really need anything, but definitely one to remember in future. |
