Advantages: Quick and cheap

Disadvantages: Aussie editions

$29.95 for 'Swordfish' what a rip off - well yes but not if the $ is Australian dollars as the cost equates to a piffling £11 or so. Being an inveterate DVD buyer with fifty to his name in six months I've had to cast my net ever wider to catch some bargains. This site isn't too well known given the solitary review on site (well done MR COATES BTW!) but it's definitely worth a look.

Based in Australia you'll no doubt fear doing business with a company so far afield but take the plunge - your melting credit card will thank you for it. The site itself is pretty easy to navigate but is slow in downloading. Once you've visited a few times you can jump around easily but at first the '48 items remaining' message can be a pain. The front page lists the special offers and links to the remainder of the site.

The current offers include a 'two for $50' offer which comes in at around £10 a piece for titles such as 'Charlies Angels' and 'Crouching Tiger...' There is also a bargain basement starting at $5.99 but nothing much can be found here. The stock isn't the most extensive but thorough none the less. Links take you to each genre such as comedy, war etc. Here each film is listed alphabetically in a long scrolling list with around 100 titles a page. Comedy for example has around 300 titles in total so although not exhaustive most popular tastes will be catered for.

The only downside to this browsing format is that you see films you didn't realise you wanted! I've only ordered once but was pleasantly surprised. I bought:

'Man in the Moon' $AU22.68
'Austin Powers Special Edition $AU29.95
'Castaway' 2 disc set $AU25.41
'Unbreakable' 2 disc set $AU31.77

The prices look strange as those quoted on the site include an Australian sales tax that does not apply to international sales.
Added to the total is shipping at $AU17 so my total was a seemingly hefty $AU126.81 but with an exchange rate of $AU2.65 to £1 my bill came to £47.72 or less than £12 a disc.

The editions sold are all Australian (Region4) but are near identical to GB editions. The rating system is different with an ugly warning written across the front like a cigarette packet. I was happy with the copies I got although people do have problems selling them on e-Bay - well for a profit at any rate.

My four DVDs came in one week securely packaged in a custom box. They had thoughtfully noted their value at $20 on the customs declaration meaning they wouldn't attract import duty. Postage is cheaper for multiple items although anything worth over £18 is liable to customs charges so be wary of massive orders!

The company is very professional with a confirmation of order e-mail sent immediately with a dispatch e-mail following the next day in my case. Some discs are listed as preorders and others as temporarily unavailable. I avoided these but the site promises to dispatch all items as soon as availability allows. As I've said I've only ordered once but given the prices and service I'll certainly be back.

I've got to the stage now where I can't be bothered with sites that charge postage, so I guess I'll stick to Play.com
