“ Stationery, personal organisers and other office supplies. „
I wanted a Filofax organizer for a few months, as I am planning on going back to college at the start of this year and wanted somewhere to keep my notes. I also wanted one because I wanted somewhere to scribble down random ideas and thoughts in general, I can't always find a piece of spare paper to jot down things and having somewhere where I could keep everything together in one place seemed like a good idea.
I browsed on Amazon for a Filofax as they are reasonably cheaper than the official Filofax website, and I came across a Finsbury. It is not cheap by any means, but I believe it's their cheapest 'real leather' organizer (the ones cheaper than that are made from plastic). It cost £52 on Amazon UK for the a5 version, which is reasonably bigger than 'standard' a5 paper. The specific measurements are available on the Filofax website. This organizer is also available in Mini, Pocket, Personal, Slimline and A4. On the official Filofax website they are charging around £75 for the a5 Finsbury so it's worth shopping around!
The Finsbury was available in Black, Raspberry or Grey, and I selected the Raspberry as it was fun and bright. Raspberry is a Pink/Plum colour that has real depth and is lovely to look at. The leather is grained and sewn together with pink stitching and has a popper clasp.
When you order it it comes in a protective slip case and all the inserts you need to get going are included. You get a week on two page vertical layout diary, a page to put your personal info, pages of weights and measures, White plain notepaper, coloured lined notepaper, flyleafs, blank dividers, a separate notebook to put in the back pocket, address pages, to-do list pages and a plastic credit card holder. It also has a ruler bookmark so you can mark which day is today.
There are lots of pockets in the binder itself, plenty of credit card slots, a clear photo slot (great for I.D or a photo of a loved one) and two full-length slots, ideal for pens and spare sheets of paper. There are two pen loops, not elasticated but big enough to keep a ballpoint pen or a pencil in.
New inserts are widely available but expensive, but the great thing about the a5 is, even though the binder itself is bigger than a5, the sheets of paper it takes in it are regular a5 size, so you can just print them out on a4 paper and cut them in half. There are loads of templates online for free or you can design your own on Microsoft word or publisher.
Punching homemade inserts is a pain, as they have six holes at specific points, but a Filofax punch is available to purchase to do this or you can use a regular punch and use a ruler to measure the holes out. Word of warning though, if you buy a Filofax punch, it can only punch through one sheet of paper at the one time (no thin card of anything).
Filofax also include a sheet of paper telling you to sign up to the website and register your organizer, where they will give you a code to jot down on the front page of your organizer. If anyone finds your organizer and phones up Filofax, quoting the code, Filofax will post it back to you, free of charge, and also give the person who found it a 'free gift', which I believe is a coupon. I've never lost my organizer, though :)
So far, as I'm not at college yet, I have barely used mine, but I am happy with it and I'm sure it will be used lots in the future. I recommend Filofax, I just wish the prices would be lowered as £52 is still quite a high price for an Organizer.
Thanks for reading.
My Filofax is one of the items I've purchased that I couldn't live without. I've been using my personal Filofax dairy for almost two years now and every Christmas/Birthday I seem to be asking for more paper/diary refills ect. They make ideal gifts and there are so many different styles to choose from!
I currently have the lilac personal Filofax with little yellow birds and white flowers on, it's girly and small enough to carry around in my handbag - I literally cannot leave the house without mine! I think that the great thing about the Filoxfax diaries is that you can tailor them to suit your needs. For example I use mine to organise my shifts at work and to write down little to-do lists, whereas my mother uses hers for her banking records and address book.
The quality of the paper and the diary itself is superb, it's definitely an item that I'd recommend to a fellow University student like myself. One that subject, I know a few fellow University friends who have brought a Filofax after seeing mine. Invest!
This review is focussed on the customer service side of Filofax and not on any individual product.
The first interaction I had with Filofax was through their website when I wanted to but an Olympic edition. I found the website very easy to navigate for all their product range. It also includes any reduced or sale items both within the main navigation pages and a section of its own. The only thing that is hard to find is their time management package which is hidden away in a small link at the bottom. Overall however it is a good website which encourages the consumer to get the best deal.
Ordering from the website is very straightforward with nothing likely to trip you up. Delivery I found was very quick and efficient with my purchases arriving within the specified time frame and well packaged.
Filofax is a very good quality brand of organiser so I did not expect to have need of their customer service. However one of my binders developed a fault. I used the contact us link on their web page and explained that I had not bought it from them, but wanted advice on repair. That was Sunday evening. Monday morning I had an email with a freepost address to send it back for them to check it. So it went in the post that evening and by 11 on Tuesday morning they were phoning to check my address as they were sending me a replacement. Now that is top quality service. I know from reading the Philofaxy blog (OK I confess I like filofaxs) that my experience is not unusual.
Overall the quality of customer service from Filofax is excellent and I would recommend investing in their product safe in the knowledge they'll look after you if there is a problem.
I got a personal Filofax for Christmas 2010. I have a brown leather case with elastic to keep it together which is called Domino. The website has lots of different types and colours for you to choose from.
I run a small business and really wanted something other than a bog standard diary, so i asked a friend for a Filofax. I use it everyday all day. It is a binder bound case with whatever inserts you want to put inside. It comes with a diary, a little plastic wallet, a map, an address book, dividers, Notes pages and at the front were some info and measurements that usually come in diaries which I was quick to rip out as it's not something I usually need. The personal filofax is 13x19cm and is a perfect size to keep in your handbag (as long as it's not too small).
Inside the Filofax on the case there are some card holders and a flap for things to be kept which is also at the back too. I purchased extra things for my Filofax on Ebay, but they are also available on the Filofax website. I have bought some extra notes pages, To-do list pages, 2012 diary and some business card holder inserts so I can store important cards. I love how versatile the Filofax is. You can buy everything you need wether you need it for business purposes or just for personal use.
You can purchase many different sizes of Filofax and they also sell handbags and laptop cases.
I would highly suggest this product for anyone who needs to keep their meetings, dates etc in a place you will enjoy writing in. I like to keep my Filofax very neat and tidy (which I'm sure most fellow Filofax lovers do too). It's something that will last for a long time and just needs a new insert each year and can be bought very cheaply.
The personal domino Filofax i have was £23.00 on the Filofax website.
They range from £18-£179. (The higher prices are for the luxury case materials).
They have 6 different sizes: Mini, pocket, personal, slimline, A5 and A4.
I love my filofax and if it was to go missing or if I lost it, My world would crumble beneath me! It's become my personal assistant and has saved me £12,000 a year hiring someone to sort out my business/personal diary!
I purchased my first Filofax at the beginning of the year and I love it. I have a pocket Filofax which is small and handy enough for my handbag. The website offers a wide range of items with customer reviews and clear pictures. The website is clear and easy to navigate around while browsing products. From what I remember, the delivery was prompt.
Filofax's are pricey - however, they are the mother of all personal diary's, so what do you expect? Lol.
At first I did think, why did I really dish out 20 quid for a little diary, however, the Filofax came with 2010, 2011 and 2012 diary pages (even though the 2010 was irrelevant, but hey) and looads of other handy (some not so handy) pages. Coloured paper, card slots, note pad, to do list, timetable, world map and much more. Which you can remove or move around as you wish.
I'm pleasantly surprised the case hasn't worn at all and looks brand new which is one of the best things about the filofax. The casing should last you long, so all you would need to do each year is buy new diary refills. Diary refills for my pocket Filofax retails at around £5 - which isn't bad at all.
My filofax was a well spent investment considering the high quality of this product and would recommend to anyone looking for a personal diary or change of personal diary.
I have acquired a Filofax Finsbury in the Raspberry colour. I use this on a daily basis; I find the fact that my diary, note paper and other useful information all present in one place very useful. Being a university student, it's important to manage time efficiently and also meet deadlines when lab reports/essays/assignments are due.
The best thing about the Filofax is that it can be arranged according to how you want it as an individual. Because of various lab reports, etc and other extra curricular activities I do at university, I find the notes bit especially useful and so my notes bit takes up quite a proportion of my Filofax. The to-do list is also pretty thick and gets a fair amount of use too.
One good thing about the Personal size is that it is small enough to throw into my handbag but yet not big enough for me to worry about the weight of the thing. The quality of the leather is excellent and with the credit card slots and zipped compartment, this Filofax can be used on a daily basis. The sort of crinkly feel of the leather gives it a more sophisticated look and makes it look less plain that it would if the effect were not there.
The only niggle I have with this is the fact that the hole punches (the metal ones in particular) are quite pricey, and because a guillotine must be purchased in order for home-made inserts to be useable, this cost can mount up. However, with the Filofax being at such a cheap price and with me getting so much use out of it, that cost is minute.
With regards to the online store of Filofax.co.uk, I only have good things to say about it. The customer service is good and polite and the service is a prompt one. However, I do think the postage costs are quite high, especially, when free delivery is surely worth pennies to them when it comes to purchasing the higher end filofaxes.
This review isn't necessarily about Filofax.com but about Filofax itself. My Mum bought me a pink Filofax mini classic about 4 years ago and it has never been out of my handbag since. I honestly don't know how I organised myself before!
The Filofax itself is excellent quality. It is real Italian leather in a lovely shade of pink (other, more sensible colours are available!). On the front there is a quartered pattern in the stiching and there is a loop to hold a pen and a very secure snap fastening to keep it closed. The Filofax logo is embossed on the spine. On the front inside flap there are 3 card pockets and a full length pocket underneath. On the back inside flap there is a zippered pocket. There is also a full length wallet pocket so you can use this as a wallet or purse if you wish. This particular model costs £55 which is expensive but in theory it lasts a lifetime so I think it is worth the money. There are cheaper ones available but they look it in my opinion and I'm not convinced that they'd last as long.
Like I said before, I've had this for 4 years and it still looks like new. There is no wear on the corners or fraying of the stiching, these really are made to last.
My Filofax came with a diary (week to one page version), address book with A-Z index tabs and white notepaper. There is also the usual personal information page, notable dates, religious festivals, EU members, International information, weights and measures, the world and time, world temperature guide and clothing sizes. These are updates whenever you buy a new diary. The beauty of this is that you can customise it to suit you with the extras. I bought coloured notepaper, to-do lists and a page marker that doubles as a 10cm ruler. You can also buy maps, finance sheets, a year planner, a calculator and little plastic pouches.
It is easy to add and remove sheets from the organiser, there's a simple 5 ring binder mechanism. Press the ends to open the rings and simply push them together to close them again. The issue with the 'Mini' is that there isn't an awful lot of room so it can be difficult getting pages in at the front or back if there are a lot of pages in there already. If I want to add more note sheets at the back I usually have to take a few pages out to give me room to work with.
It isn't too expensive to buy paper refills, about £1.50 for the notepaper and around £4.00 for the diary. It isn't cheap but I'd spend more than that on a new diary every year and there are plenty of options with regards to the format of the diary. You can have 1 week on one page, 1 week on 2 pages, 1 week per page with notes, 1 day per page, 1 month on 2 pages etc so you can really choose what suits you best. I like using 1 week per page as it takes up less room and it easy to use and keep track of where you are in the year. Each page not only shows the days of the week in 4 languages but the week of the year i.e. I'm on week 7 right now, it also shows the major holidays in the UK, Ireland, America and Australia and also various religious holidays. It tracks the moon so you can see when there's a full moon an in the space for Sunday there is also a small plan of the month.
I love my filofax, without it I am lost, I don't know where I should be and when, I have nowhere to jot down notes, I can't quickly look up the dialling code for Hong Kong or find out that Malaysia is 8 hours ahead of us or that the capital of Slovenia is Ljubljiana. I am useless without my little pink bible!
Filofax.com is great for buying all of the refills for the Filofax and you can register your Filofax on the webiste so that if you do lose it and someone is nice enough to hand it in it can be traced back to you! Nice in theory but I wonder how often it actually works?! My original quibbles when I first bought the Mini organiser were that there was not as much choice with regards to the extras you can get, but they seem to be on board now and the choice keeps on growing, clearly this is a popular size now!
A girl who just loves FILOFAX
I purchased my first filofax around 3 years ago on starting a new job which involved shift which often changed at a drop of a hat, and days off changing every week - so a dairy was now a must
my first filofax being a mini, which was just big enough to put into a zipped compartment in my handbag.
Each and every year I visit the filofax website to purchase my inserts, year planners etc and just tonight purchased a new filofax personal size direct from Filofax, as my social and work life is busting at the seams
each and every time ive made purchases direct form filofax, ive had nothing but a profressional and delightful service, hence i've gone back to them time after time.
i find their products are of great quality, and the customer service second to none. I really cant speak highly enough of them
I am girl who likes to write lists, lots of lists. I used to write them on any scrap piece of paper I could find, and then what happened? I lost the list and it would turn up about 4 weeks later. Not helpful, or very organised. To someone who is normally an organised person, I was surprised that I hadn't sorted this out. My solution? The Filofax!
It's the perfect item to have in my handbag, which keeps me organised and I actually get my 'to do' list done. You can buy pages separately for your filofax for your own needs. I have a diary, coloured, lined notepaper and my beloved 'to do' list. There is such a variety of pages you can buy, from lain white sheets to coloured tabs and a fold out year planner.
My husband bought me an A6 red Italian leather, which never leaves my handbag. I also bought a pen with it, which is pricey at £20 from the filofax website, but it's fits perfectly on the side and I never have to worry about not having a pen to hand. There are so many different varieties, ranging from around £15 to £100+ so there will be a filofax for you. The service on their website was swift and they kept you up to date with every step of your order. I would use again.
I don't know how I survived without this essential organiser, but I'm so glad I don't have to anymore. I could put all my lists and appointments into my mobile, but there is just something about the old fashioned pen and paper.
When you think of the word Filofax your mind is probably immediately taken to images of the 80's with coporate nobodies prancing around with the worlds biggest diary to go with the worlds biggest phone, or maybe even Del Boy from Only Fools and Horse's with his out of date Filofax.
Well, while this was perhaps the image of Filofax at one time, that really is not the whole story.
Despite living in a digital world with Blackberries and smart phones galore, over the past decade Filofax has continualy grown as a company. The trade mark "Filofax was actually registered as early as 1930 nd was derived, according to their website from the words "file of facts", which seems believable to me. Addapted from an American organising system for engineers and scientists,,this brand soon became very popular with the military especially. Back in 1987 Filofax had 1250 retail outlets in the UK alone and despite my best research I can only assume that this success has continued with Filofax being stocked in stores such as John Lewis and Selfridges.
Perhaps best known for there range of personal organisers, including address book, diary and various other pages, this company has a style that refuses to be beaten by todays digital market.
To try and put a finger on why such an "old-fashioned" system continues to thrive is beyond me, however, it has even worked on me as I own an A5 Leather Filofax, and I use it everyday, while my phone calendar sits idly by and justs counts the days.
Whether it is due to nostalga for days gone by or whether it is the human psyche to be overly cautious there is something reassuring about having a hard copy of your schedule and important contacts.
Sizes of Filofax vary, from the pocket size all the way up to A4 size organisers. Material ranges from the man made, leather look to actual leather. This of course means that prices to vary from £29.99 all the way up to £129.99. However, this will prove a great purchase, especially as Filofax make refills of the pages every year usually costing £5.99.
The main downside is of a logistical nature. Unless you are the type of person who carries a briefcase everywhere, it does mean carrying the large filofax's in your hand, which of course has the risk of leaving it somewhere. Filofax have tried to negate this problem of lost organisers by allowing you to register online your filofax. Each filofax containing a unique number that if found and reported can be traced back to its owner. Pretty handy.
Overall, this again is a good classy brand, that no matter what the latest technical invention will always be around. Buying into this brand will leave you with a product that oozes class and will keep your life in order.
