Disadvantages: Some items can be expensive

I usually find it quite difficult to find presents for people and like buying things that are a little bit quirky and unusual for people. My mum and my brothers birthday are coming up soon and i asked them the same question that i ask every year - "What do you want for your birthday?"

I got the same reply that i usually get every year, a simple "nothing". I hate it when people say this because at least if they gave you a few ideas, you wouldnt be stressed and clambering around in desperation looking for a present that you think they would like.

I felt like saying "Oh a nothing, ill order it now and it'll be here soon!" Its so annoying! Anyway, while i was scouring the internet about a year ago, i came across an amazing website called Firebox.com.

If you have never heard of them before, the site sells many products from gadgets to games to expensive experiences. There are several different gifts for all budgets and standard delivery cost £3.95.

Sometimes the website has special offers of Free Delivery which i take them up on each time i want to buy something.

A lot of the products are very unusual and different. There arent many other places that you could buy a magic wand remote control (£49.99) or a zombie brain jelly mould. Firebox.com was originally called hotbox.co.uk when it was created in 1998.

It was created by college friends Michael Acton Smith and Tom Boardman who decided to create an online company where people could buy obscure, unusual and cool things.

I have to say that i completely love it as anything that i have bought from this site, i have loved! Also, i have bought a lot of presents from it for people and they have all been delighted with what i have got them and always asked where it came from as it was so unusual.

The revenue for this company in 2007 was nearly eleven and a half million pounds! This just shows how popular it is!

Firebox is so popular that in 2004 it was listed by the Sunday Times Fast Track 100 as the 13th fastest growing privately owned business in the UK.

My favourite section on Firebox is where you can buy products that can be personalised. I really want to get one of the personalised novels for a family member at christmas.

They cost £19.95 each which i think is maybe a little expensive but a very unique gift idea at the same time. I completely love this website and will continue to buy things from it for a long time to come. The only downside for me is the price as i think some things are quite expensive. Check it out!
