Advantages: local store, small enough to find things fast.

Disadvantages: Poor service - Never enough tellers

These days we all seem to be DIY enthusiasts. There are a number of stores around that could be used Homebase, B & Q etc. but I have to say personally I like to use somewhere a bit smaller so I can find things. In my case I tend to go to Focus...and I never learn.

Focus is agood middle ground between the huge DIY (B & Q) and the small hardware store. Their range of products is generally quite good but if you want something out of the ordinary or in a large quantity go elsewhere. Product range has never really been an issue for me...and I've now done up several houses through them, but what I always forget is that if in a hurry...don't bother. Our local store, in Malvern, NEVER has enough cash tellers. Often it's only the information desk that's actually open. The result - you can spend 5 minutes picking up that extra roll of paper and the next 20 waiting to pay. This can be incredibly frustrating. I have on more than one occassion given up and left the queue to drive another 15 minutes to homebase because I'm so cheesed off.

TO THE MANAGEMENT...I appeal to you, invest in some staff, not only to man the cash desks but to offer assistance when needed ,especially when trying to lift heavy objects off the shelf and into a trolley...and teach them to smile. It would make the world of difference.

Summary: Reasonable product range but poor service.

I am 17 and work at Focus on a part-time and I dont believe that the opinions expressed are entirely fair. The staff work hard to give thier customers quick and simple service. We are expected to know the full A-Z of D.I.Y and when we cant come up with the answers we are either spoken to as if we are retarded or sighed at and left alone.

It is not as simple as it is made out to work at Focus. especially in Malvern (one of the best selling stores in the UK.) We attract many customers every day and try our hardest to make sure they have the best shopping experince whilst in store. Sure not everyone is perfect and maybe things could be amended but where your place of employment is perfect?
