tesco.com
by just_charley I am 8 1/2 months pregnant and decided to use Tesco.com for the first time. The ordering online was easy and free from the temptation of smells and treats so the saving I made was great. Sad to say that is where the positives finish. I had a delivery slot for 10 -12, I had an emergency appointment with my midwife and ... admittedly was home late at 10.12am. I found the card that the driver had been at 10.02 and rang tesco strate away. The lady on the telephone said she would phone the driver to come back as he couldnt be far from my home and she would call me back. I was really pleased how helpful the lady had been but after 3 hours I recieved no call back and rang again to see what was happening. It was then that I was shouted at and told I wouldnt get my shopping til the next day. I sent my partner to tesco to grab something for tea when he came home he told me how the shelves had been filled with out of date bread and that when he asked if he could have an in date loaf he was told "i'll reduce it" So then turning to homebake rolls as an alternative he arrived home with the rolls date marked 22/2/12 only to find them covered in mold and the crisps that had been marked as on offer £2.00 for 18 bags was charged £4.82 for. This morning I recieved a phone call from tesco to tell me that the payment for my shopping wouldnt go through and my card had been declined, I jumped onto my banking website and there infront of me it said the payment had already been taken 3 days before. To be honest Tesco customer service to me has gone down hill drastically, staff have been rude, I had a cage barged into my stomach two weeks ago, managers holding meetings in the middle of aisles and looking at you like dirt when you ask to get by. My mother was a tesco employee many many years ago and the customer service course she had to undertake was unbelievable. I think they need to look back and prehaps bring back some old policies. I will be trying Asda online for my next shop and will refer tesco to the NHS as an alternative to labour enduction!! Read the complete review |

Ocado.com
by oscardog I have been using Ocado for almost two years. I first tried using them following a suggestion from my mum, who could see that I was finding a trip to the supermarket with small children more stressful than it needed to be. Having tried Ocado once I have continued to shop with them - I have tried online shopping with each of their major ... competitors, but found that they could not match Ocado's quality customer service and/ or their delivery charges were very expensive by comparison. Ocado stocks the following food brands: Branded products e.g. Marmite, Cif etc., Waitrose products and Ocado's own brand. What I like about Ocado: Quality Ocado own range - Ocado's own range of food is both diverse and high quality, which means that there is normally a decent, cheaper alternative available than branded or Waitrose product. - Excellent customer service. They once were unable to complete my order as planned, so offered me £25 off my next shop with them. I also had an incident of a bottle of bleach opening in a carrier bag, and marking my trousers. Ocado reimbursed me the full cost of the trousers. To top these examples the drivers are always on time, are friendly and helpful, and assist me with carrying the bags through to my kitchen. - Easy to use website. The website is intuitive to use, and it is easy to identify special offers. Ocado also offers an Android phone app, which I sometimes use as it comes with a barcode scanner - very useful for scanning products that are almost empty and adding them to my shopping list! Delivery pass - You can pay a monthly fee to Ocado to have as many deliveries as you'd like (orders need to be over £40). As we live in a rural area, where a round trip to town is over 10 miles the pass easily pays for itself when considered against mileage costs. The delivery pass costs £10.99 a month (minimum term of 12 months). Free magazine with offers - Since shopping with Ocado I have received the following free: Italian cookbook, a bottle of port, packs of pasta, 2 x bottles of Innocent orange juice and washing liquid samples. They also produce a regular 'lifestyle' magazine which is free to customers. Ocado's own range of food - Ocado have their own range of food, which is generally cheaper than the Waitrose or branded food that they sell. Always good for cutting down costs, and the food is generally of very good quality. Receipt itemised with sell by dates - The receipt lists foods by the date that they are due to go off. Likewise, food always arrives with a decent amount of time left before the best before date - this is something that I can say that some of Ocado's competitors don't do. I have been very cross in the past to find that when I made an online supermarket shop food was delivered that that was due to expire the very same day. Therefore shopping with Ocado makes it easier to menu plan for the week, and reduces the amount of waste. Where I think Ocado could improve: Offering fruit and veg by weight - One of Ocado's competitors offers fruit and veg by the kg, unpacked - whereas all of Ocado's fruit and veg is pre-packed and therefore costs more. Offering a points reward system - There is no points rewards system for Ocado shoppers, which is offered by many of its competitors. Also, up until the 1st Feb 2012, if you pay with a John Lewis card you do qualify for John Lewis Partnership points (as if you were shopping in John Lewis or Waitrose). However this offer is set to terminate from Feb onwards, and it will be back to one JL Partnership point per pound spent in Ocado - disappointing. Overall I would recommend Ocado - they provide a 5 star supermarket online shopping experience. Read the complete review |

hotelchocolat.com
by PandaEyes I am not a really big chocolate eater and will go through phases when I want lots of chocolate, and some times when I just don't fancy it at all. I like my chocolate very simple - and so I am happy with a bar of Cadbury's Dairy Milk! However, ever since I was bought a 'tiddly pot' (a small pot of little chocolates) from Hotel Chocolat ... from a friend, I fell in love with Hotel Chocolat! In my opinion everything from Hotel Chocolat is very expensive. A small box of four chocolates costs £5. I do like the chocolate from here but I would never pay that much for myself! They do lots of different kinds of chocolates including the basics milk, white and dark. I prefer plain milk or white chocolate and so this is what I like the most from Hotel Chocolat too. I find the boxes containing several different kinds of luxury chocolates too rich for me. The list of the different kinds of chocolates they sell is far too long to mention here and so if you visit the website, you will see the wide range they offer. I love the Hotel Chocolat website because there isn't a store in my nearest town centre. The ones nearest to me are in the MetroCentre and Newcastle, both of which I don't go to very often. I only ever shop online though when there is a sale on, which is generally just after Christmas, Valentine's Day, Easter and halloween, when they need to get rid of their left over themed chocolates. They always reduce the prices to 50% off and then after some time, even further to 70% off. I have been to the stores when sales have been on in the past and unless you go at the start of the sales, there are only a few things left, and these usually aren't the best out of what they originally had on offer at the start of the sales. However, if you shop online I have always found that they still have a big selection of different chocolates to choose from in the sale, even if you go on when the sale has been running for a few weeks. At the moment the Hotel Chocolat website are offering up to 70% off their Christmas themed chocolates, which has just increased from 50% off. I have just placed an order buying £15 worth of chocolate which would have originally cost £40. The last time I placed an order online with them was after Easter last year and although I was told the items could take 7 days to arrive as I had selected standard delivery, it in fact only took 3. All of the chocolate eggs I had bought did not get smashed during delivery either, which I did think might happen. The only downside to ordering from online is their delivery costs. Standard delivery costs £4.95, and the other faster delivery options costing even more. I do think this is a lot and makes your bargain sale shopping expensive, meaning it would be better to just go to a Hotel Chocolat store. However, I have been lucky enough to get a free delivery code from somewhere every time I have ordered from their website. I do think that Hotel Chocolat offer free delivery promotions a lot, you just have to look for the codes. I am not sure what the online customer service is like as I have never had to use it. You can also sign up to receive emails from Hotel Chocolat which notify you of special offers, but sometimes just email you pictures of tasty looking chocolate! I am glad I signed up to the emails as I wouldn't have known about their Christmas chocolates being reduced even further if I hadn't. Read the complete review |
