Disadvantages: The worry that the sizes wouldn't be right, collection (unless like us family are coming to you)
Oh my lord I really thought I was going to have a melt down! 6 months before the wedding I checking in with my husband to be about the men's suits. He looked very chilled as he turned to me and said he'd sort it soon enough.
I am the type of person who likes things sorted ahead of time. I like to know what is happening when and with the wedding I wanted to know that things were going to run smoothly and that everything we wanted / needed was ready to go. So this answer wasn't really working for me. As the months started passing by I kept asking him to get is all sorted out. We had measurements to get from America and people work so if he needed them to go somewhere and try the suits on then he'd need to organize that already.
With two months to go I walked behind him whilst he was on the computer and stopped. I picked my jaw up off the floor and said, "You're not ordering the wedding suits off the internet are you!?!?". His response was that it was an option and they are cheaper. Ok they were cheaper by £10-£30 depending on where you shop but the thought of them arriving and not being right scare me. Formally Yours charges £57 per suit, £25 per childrens accessory pack and if you need shoes you can hire them for a £7.50 charge. Delivery charge is £5 per delivery address (not per suit) but as we had them all delivered to our house it was just the one charge.
As it got even closer I started to realize this was how it was going to be. I contacted people and got some measurements and gave them to husband to be.
Any friends I spoke to didn't seem to think it was a good idea but I was trying to be calm about it all. With so many stressful things going on I needed to have some calm so I blocked it out as much as I could.
We went onto the site together when he was ordering so I could give the ok on the colours. We'd requested colour samples so we knew what the colours would be like in the flesh (worth asking for a sample because the colours were slightly different then they looked on screen). After a few clicks we had ordered 4 adult suits and 3 childrens suits. I had a sudden thought later that day and looked at the confirmation and saw that the childrens suits don't come with trousers. That struck me as a bit funny but easy to fix by visiting anywhere that sells school uniform.
Formally Yours says the suits will be with you at least 7 days before the day of the event (between 9am and 5:30pm) giving time for the suits to be tried on and if needed other sizes being send out. Exactly 7 days before our wedding a large box arrived at my door. I was terrified! Sounds ridiculous but everything else had been going perfectly and I was waiting for this to go horribly wrong. I'm not normally so negative!
On an average day I would have opened the box straight away but it took me a few hours to work up the courage. I pulled the tape off and on top was the order form, a return label and a roll of Formally Yours tape. Each suit was inside a suit case and then all that inside a box. I took each suit case out and hung them up. The first one I opened up was my eldest sons' suit and to my delight it was perfect. I had him try it on and he looked the part! My youngest refused to try his on but I could see it was the right size, phew! Next was the men's' suits and to my delight they all fit. You can probably imagine my smile on my face at this point. There was only one article of clothing that didn't fit and that was the other child's waistcoat. I went online and ordered the replacement which arrived two days later at an extra charge of £10 (£5 for the item and £5 for the delivery).
On the day the men and boys looked lovely. My friends who knew about my suit drama were very impressed. We took out the optional damage cover just in case something were to get spilt on the suits due to the fact that we had 3 children involved but no one split anything. Typically if we hadn't paid for the cover I'm sure something would have happened!
To ensure they have stock they limit the orders so check here for availability prior to ordering http://www.formallyyours.co.uk/availability/
Collection is scheduled for the second working day after the event. For us that was a Monday and again between 9am and 5:30pm. The pick up this time was later in the day but it didn't matter because were at the house that day getting ourselves together. The only trouble was getting one child's suit and one adult back in time for pick up but I made a trip into London and got them both as they lived very close to each other. Once I had all the suits I got them into their labelled bags and then folded into the boxes. Then placed all the boxes back into the larger box. The cats were quite put out that their play box was going away.
I was finished packing the box and started taping it up when I realized they'd probably want the rest of the tape I hadn't used back so I pulled off 2 long strips and then put the rest of the tape into the box before taping it up. I'm sure people tape the boxes up and then suddenly realize the tape isn't in the box and Formally Yours must lose a lot of tape that way but oh well they got mine back.
I needn't have stressed so much over the suits, everything turned out perfectly! A big recommendation from me but definitely get a colour sample before ordering.
