Gadget Asia is a Hong Kong based business operating through the internet as an online shop. It sells mainly computer games and consoles and will import to the UK and Europe direct from Hong Kong.
I found myself checking out Gadget Asia when I was looking for a Nintendo DS lite, being after Christmas, all the shops in the UK were pretty much sold out and it was virtually impossible to get hold of one. When I searched for places that had them in stock Gadget Asia came up.
Being that it was such an unknown name to me, and as a keen gamer I am at least aware of most of the video game retailers around, I searched on a few forums to check out peoples previous experiences of them, they were not expansive but they were around and seemed to be largely positive.
The site offers DS consoles in basic and more complex bundle deals and can supply all the worldwide colours, bearing in mind nearly every continent has a different colour choice it was nice to be able to choose the red and black version, which up to now has only been available in the USA.
[I should say at this point for those who don't know that the DS consoles are region free, so it doesn't matter where you get your console from, only a few of the games are restricted on certain features and those are usually related to multiplayer. ]
I also noted on the site that they offered some of the Asia only colours like metallic blue and some of the limited edition colours like the Zelda promotional gold console.
Recently they have also added the 2008 colour models.
In the bundle pack I chose, I received a flashcard that contained 20 games (on one cartridge very handy, but there are a few on there that I wont play) the console, and a slipcase. This pack came at £150, and considering the console alone is usually £100-£120 in the UK, this site was offering a considerable discount.
The site also offers PSP, PS2, PS3, Wii, games for these consoles and various accessories.
The site is easy to navigate but the search function is a bit lacking, but it is well organised enough that you only have a few pages to scroll through in each section to see their entire range.
Shipping is offered in two formats, either standard, which carries no insurance, or Fed Ex courier, which includes insurance, and is recommended for consoles. The Fed Ex option also includes the ability to track your package. The prices are not bad at all considering they are coming from Hong Kong and many of their products ship free of charge if they are at the more expensive end of the range.
The site also has the nifty option of paying either by card as a normal internet supplier, or by Paypal. Which makes for a very easy shopping experience.
They ship very quickly, the same day that my Paypal payment cleared I had an email to say that it was on its way and three days later the DS arrived.
My advice is to look at all of their bundle packs if you decide to shop with gadget asia, they have some great deals but don't advertise them very well on the site, but if you check out everything on offer you can find real bargains!
Summary: I have used this site a second time, because I was so pleased with their service.

- 26/02/08 Items can be subject to import tax if your parcel is checked at customs, this will not always happen as i understand it is a random checking process, but there is information regarding this on the site FAQs |
