Advantages: Delivery before the release date
Disadvantages: Poor site design
Although I had heard of Gameplay before, I had not looked at the site, never mind placed an order, before last week. However after my first experience with Gameplay I think there is every chance I will use them again next time I buy a video game. The design of the site is not great and it takes a few clicks just to get to the 'store' as the site also features reviews and an on-line magazine. Once in the store the front page is a little cluttered making it relatively hard to find what you are looking for. Once you have found it though Gameplay tell you whether the item is in stock and the ordering process is relatively straight forward and similar to other on-line retailers. Although I didn't have any problems so didn't need to contact customer services Gameplay sent an order confirmation instantly and then updated me when the order was dispatched. The prices seem reasonable although you are charged for postage unless the order is over £20 (annoying when my order cost £19.99). Gameplay sell games for all the major formats and now sell DVD's, including selected DVD 2-packs for £30 which could be good value if you can find a pack you want. I placed my order for Championship Manager 2000/01 from Gameplay about a week before its release and impressively it actually arrived the day before the release date. Buying the game from Gameplay cost £19.99, less than I could find it anywhere else on-line, and also included a free CM00/01 mousemat. I don't know if it is standard to recieve games from Gameplay before the release date, but this certainly impressed me and is the main reason why I will probably order from Gameplay again in the future.
