Advantages: Top notch games, it's cheap, the best looking console
Disadvantages: 'childlike' design
The best games console ever - period! I bought this console on the first day it was released, and to date it has served me admirably. OK so i can't play DVD's - big deal - I have DVD player AND a PC which does that for me. Nintendo have been developing games for over a 100 years - so they know a thing or two about the market. Your average gamer probaby won't like the look of the design - admit it looks a bit like a fisher price toy - but if you're after top notch graphics / fab sound and games that a fun - don't be fooled - this packs a mean punch. I'm not going to slag off the opposition - i have a ps2 and have used an XBOX, the GC however does what it says it does -and delivers the best gaming experience there is. Ok so lets look at how's it equiped. firstly it uses funky 3.5 inch discs (apparently designed that way to limited piracy) -the loading time is very quick - certainly compared to the PS2 which is very slow. It has 4 controller ports -so that four players can get involved - no fancy add ons to enable this (yes the XBOX also has 4 ). The games are really what puts nintendo ahead of the opposition - Zelda /Mario/Metroid all GCN exclusives - albeit these are limited in numbers - these are sheer class. Unfortunatley however it looks as though the GC's days may well be numbered - a number of retailers have dropped the format - probably due to being 3rd in the pecking order. If you're in the market for a console - give this a go -you can now pick one up for just over 100 -with games generally cheaper (where you can find them) than both the PS2 and XBOx. You won't be disappointed.

- 11/03/03 Get down to Dixons, Currys or PC World sharp-ish, because they're selling off their GC stock cheap! I got Eternal Darkness yesterday for £25... |
