Advantages: Ethical, Thrifty, Excellent customer service

Disadvantages: none

I found this site purely by accident whilst trying to buy a book at Amazon. The book I was looking for was not in stock and they referred me to this site instead. It was made for me and I don't feel quite so guilty about spending so much time and money reading. You could say my habit now pays for its self.

The aim of Green Metropolis is to create a community of readers who want to give something back to the environment from reselling the books they have read.Plus for every book they sell they give 5p to the woodland trust which goes towards planting a new tree. Its as simple as that.

The site is very easy to use with unfussy graphics and a nice simple layout. It is broken into three sections on the home page. The left hand side presents you with categories of books that you can click on and browse all the books for sale. The right hand side tells you a bit about the site and the top section has 5 tabs that you can click on to either, Find a book, Sell a book, shop, track your orders or put a book on a wish list

THE BASICS

Books cost

All paperbacks, hardbacks and audio books all cost just £3.75 to buy (and include free delivery on all standard sized paperbacks).
Delivery Cost
FREE delivery on all standard sized paperbacks
Heavier books such as hardbacks or large format paperbacks may incur a small delivery charge, in order to help cover the extra postage costs. This will show on the book detail page when you are searching.

Buying books

First you register to open an account. Click the 'Log on' and follow the quick and easy steps the site takes you through. This is free but do remember to have your credit card or bank card as they will ask you to deposit some money so you can buy the books You can then simply browse the book categories. If you're after something specific, use Search facility if you have an ISBN number for the book you can even enter that and the search engine will tell you if they have any copies in stock. Once you've found a book, simply 'Add to Basket' and 'Proceed to Checkout'. You'll then be asked to credit funds to your account (if there's not sufficient funds already in your account) and to select a delivery address. Once your order is placed you'll receive a Confirmation e-mail giving details of your order and your book should arrive within 7 to 10 days. You can also follow the status of your order on-line from your My Account homepage.
Postage payment Help
Green Metropolis does not offer postage payments option on standard sized paperbacks, as most weigh between 200g and 350g and cost between 58p and 94p (I have found that the average 500page book cost about 89p and a 900ish page book is about £1.07 to post using second class mail). Therefore the £3.00 you receive for every book sold is usually more than enough to cover postage costs and still provides a contribution to the original purchase costs. However when adding a hardback or larger format paperback for sale, the Green Metropolis system will recognise the book and enable you to select an additional payment for postage, which is paid in addition to the £3.00 book payment. They have a system that recognizes that some books are larger than others and recommend that you use the options below when submitting a book for sale

Books with a R.R.P. of Additional Payment for Postage
£7.99 or less none
£8.99 up to £1.50
£9.99 up to £2.00
£15.00 up to £4.50
£25.00 up to £9.00

HERE IS A SELLING HINT

I have found that the books that seem to sell particularly well are the current best sellers and Fantasy novels (especially stories that come as part of a large Saga - As these become quite hard to get hold off.)
I may be particularly biased to this site as I use it quite a lot but I really do belive its is a site that could cause no offense to anyone (other than perhaps the authers)You've got nothing to loose by visiting

Summary: If you've got to read, a habbit to feed, Greenmetropolis sells books, take a look.

This is a great site. I think though you'll find that all hardback books actually cost £5.75 not £3.75. From memory anyway :o)
