Alec is almost unrecognisable as Fagin in ‘Oliver Twist’ – testament to his skill. Further testament is shown by the Oscar (and subsequent knighthood) for the role of Colonel Nicholson in ‘Bridge on the River Kwai’. Ever seen ‘The Ladykillers’?. OK, it’s a rather tenuous link, but heck, I had to get it in somewhere. Sue me. Sadly, Sir Alec Guinness passed away last month. It took a while to sink in, but I have since realised the real impact that this man had upon the film industry. Alec Guinness was first brought to my notice as (of course) Obi-Wan Kenobi…as I child I lived and breathed Star Wars. As I watch the film again 15 years on, it isn’t hard to see that Alec’s character really made the movie – his grace, style and sheer on-screen presence is the hub around which all the rest of the acting revolves. This is one of the best web sites that I have visited. It is visually impressive, easy to navigate around and has lots of things to do. I highly recommend that you sign-up for the newsletter, Guinness G, it is fun informative and most importantly free. A word of warning though the e-mailed version can be up to 400kb, so will take a while to download, and you also need a G viewer that you can get from the site. Unlike most companies I would recommend that you give Guinness as much detail about you as they want, because you get FREE STUFF. For Euro 2000 it was balls & a stand for your empty cans (work the rest out) and some red & yellow cards to vent your anger etc. ... Read the complete review
