Whilst recently searching for a DVD for a gift online I compared a number of stores for price. HMV was so much cheaper than the others I couldn't believe it could be the same item.

I've bought a number of items from hmv.com in the past, CDs and DVDs and games and find their prices are always excellent. The shipping is free for standard delivery which is via Royal Mail and if you want special delivery, for instance if you want something quicker than a few days, you can pay a whopping £6.90 per item to have it the next day. That's a big difference and I've never used the special delivery method for obvious reasons!

HMV sell not only CDs, DVDs and games but games consoles, blu-ray items, headphones, ipods, speakers, posters, T-shirts, calendars, badges, tickets for shows and concerts, gift certificates and downloads for mp3s. A download can cost you as little as 69p for your mp3.

The delivery takes about 3 days for items that are in stock and they offer a full refund if there is a problem.

But like I said at the beginning of this review it's the prices that truly astound me. I was looking for a particular DVD for someone, they had it at various other places for £16.99 but hmv.com had the same item for £4.99. It's such a massive price difference. Coupled with the free delivery this made the item an absolute bargain. Another excellent factor is hmv are listed on quidco so you can also earn up to 7% back on your purchases.

I previously have visited hmv stores and they didn't make much of an impact so I can only assume the low prices don't extend to the stores or didn't when I last visited one anyway.

One minor gripe I have is the lack of information about certain items. Take the DVD as an example, I needed to check the episode content so I could decide if the recipient had already seen it and on hmv's site I couldn't find any information that could confirm this. I ended up using Woolworths site for information and buying the item from hmv so a bit more information would help alot.

Overall it's a great site, easy to use with very clear sections, all the information about delivery etc is down at the bottom of the page and the search function at the top works very well. There are often offers on many products too which makes them even cheaper.

Highly recommended for xmas shopping.
