Advantages: Regular deals, quick postage, free delivery
Disadvantages: Items come seperately, cluttered homepage
HMV is the top dog for all things entertainment. The site is easy to search through to find whatever you are looking for, and they regularly have great deals on a wide range of products. They sell DVD's, CD's, games, tickets, Blue Ray DVD's and also offer music downloads.
On the homepage, you are shown a large range of popular deals and new and upcoming releases. Most products have at least 3 or 4 consumer reviews of theym, which makes it alot more helpful to decide whether or not to buy something from the website.
Like many other websites, if you wish to begin purchasing products you will need to sign up. The registration process is quick and easy, whereas I have gone to buy something from some websites and found that you have to spend a good 10 minutes just signing up and verifying who you are. In the sign up stage, it also gives you the oppertunity to recieve newsletters by E-mail on categories of the various products they have. This is really useful if you just need to stay in touch with new releases and offers without having to go on the website and browse for deals.
If theres anything I could critisise the site for, is that the homepage does look very crowded with products, it looks like someone has simply thrown every offer they have onto one page and hoped that people will look through them.
One the the best points of the website is the free delivery on all orders, so that you are not spending an extra £4 on postage for a single item. However, they do spend all products seperately, so you can end up getting an item one day and another one 3 days later. Generally though, the postage is good and all items arrive in good time.
Overall, with the closedown of Zavvi and Woolworths, HMV has really grasped the market and is by far the best and my personal favourite entertainment shop. They make really good use of free delivery to attract customers, and regularly have a wide range of deals on most product ranges.

- 19/06/09 By and large they have the High Street to themselves these days, but their online presence (while a lot better than it used to be) is still miles behind the likes of Amazon or Play. |

- 19/06/09 They've definitely got more competitive over recent years - they used to be quite expensive. |
