I to have experienced the poor customer service. I ordered 2 books the first book came and it was lovely. Unfortunately when the second book came it was the wrong size and they spelt my name wrong! When I got in touch with them they have not done anything to get this issue sorted out. I ordered 2 book voucher from another site to spend at Identity direct. Identity directs response was I had to get in touch with this other site to see if they would correct the error. I explained that the error is with Identity direct as they do the books the other site was just to buy the voucher. So after lots of emails back and fourth this has STILL not been resolved. I will NEVER use them again and I Strongly suggest others don't either.
We ordered six personalised books for our grand children on December 5th and as of 3pm Christmas Eve they haven't arrived, so we'll have disappointed children tomorrow. Despite numerous emails/calls to the company we still haven't had a satisfactory or even consistent explanation. One adviser told us they arrived at our local sorting office on December 14th. We've now been told by email, that they were despatched from the USA on December 14th. Doesn't mention that on the website......Don't bother with this company. We certainly won't again. Even if the books do turn up a personalised Santa Claus book won't have the same impact in January!
I recently ordered 2 personalised books from this company for xmas presents. their cut off date for orders guaranteed for xmas delivery was the 12th dec. I ordered on the 8th. We are now 3 days away from xmas and despite these being the first gifts i ordered, they are the only ones that have not arrived. i rang someone in their customer service team today and after cueing for 15 mins to get thro was greeted by a VERY UNHELPFUL gentleman who did not tell me anything useful. all he had to say was that the books are manufactured overseas and they have been delayed coming into UK and are now on standard royal mail post on their way to me and would be delivered in the next few days... WHAT??? how does this help me??? Santa is meant to be delivering them in 3 days. Why is it that every other co I have ordered from has managed to deliver my items despite the challenging recent weather, and this company can not and not only that, but they are completely unhelpful when i call, as if this is somehow my fault... DISGUSTED!! I did not receive a confirmation email advising that my order had been despatched and I the customer service man told me that i could not track my order as i had registered as a guest user and not registered fully. If I had registered then i would have been able to track my order on line... it would have been helpful to know this when i was registering - very poor customer advice again. And, if they knew that orders were late coming into the UK; why didnt they take a little hit on their profit margins, and pay for the items to be guaranteed delivery by courier or special delivery to ensure that customers receive their items for xmas. surely they know that customers have ordered for xmas presents so need them before the 24th. this is because they care more about their profits than their customer service... if they cared about their customers, they would have done the best they can to ensure deliveries were going to arrive on time for xmas. This is the last time I will use this company.. TOTALLY RUBBISH CUSTOMER SERVICE AND VERY POOR DELIVERY ARRANGEMENTS! PROCEED WITH CAUTION AND IN HINDSIGHT I WOULD HAVE USED A DIFFERENT COMPANY WHO CARE ABOUT THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE AS THERE ARE PLENTY OUT THERE WHO OFFER THESE SAME PERSONALISED PRODUCTS SO MAYBE FIND ONE THAT IS BETTER THAN THIS... CAN'T BE HARD.
As last reviewer !Takes ages to arrive and on putting in a paypal dispute was told they come from the US! When arrived the toystory 3 and Dora books were no more than a thick leaflet! Not very good print quality either! Have asked for refund and so far no reply so going down paypal dispute root! Overpriced and poor quality that takes far longer than the promised time of 7-10 days! Don't trust them! Buy elsewhere and save dissapointment!
I ordered some personalised items (lunch box, water bottle and container) they take three weeks to deliver but unfortunately the quality of the "personalised service" is very very poor. The items are fine and good quality, as they are the same ones you can buy anywhere at the shops or on line but the letters they used to personalised the items are so horrendous. They look as the were just cut from a sticker or from adhesive paper. Its like somebody just cut them with scissors, and really bad, by the way. I honestly could have done a better job my self. I tried to peel them off with my nails and they came off so easy! how those items can be in the dishwasher?. It is not worth the money and the time for that quality. I would not recommend anybody to buy personalised stuff. I was expecting these items for three weeks because I though they will be doing a better job, however is very dissapointing. I hope they deal with the refund promptly and efficiently.
My special Christmas Adventure
Be the Star at Christmas
When I was much younger, my grandparents brought me a book entitled 'My Special Christmas' which featured me and my friends; my sister, my cat and dog and even my uncle! I remember reading this book every Christmas and it moved with me to my new house and takes pride of place on my bookshelf (even though it is torn and very used!). So when I had my daughter, I couldn't wait to buy her one!
Leading up to Christmas, I came across a little order leaflet within one of my magazines from a company called 'Identity Direct' which is one of the world's largest personalised children's companies, working mainly via an online website.
Identity Direct have well over 500 gifts, all of which can be personalised, from adventure books, clocks, lunch boxes, towels and many many more.
To view their entire range follow the link below;
Their most successful products are their adventure books which can be personalised with names and even photos in some of their books. Some of their most popular are the Special Christmas Adventure, Disney Princess and Disney Cars. There are also a lot of other favourite character asventures to choose from.
Ordering is very simple and can be done in two different ways. I used the leaflet found within my magazine, though you can also go to their website as found above to fill in your details and pay. Either way you do it, it is the same and very simple. Obviously if you do it online, it goes straight through to them and may be quicker.
As with all personalised products, you do need to fill in personal details, and in this case it is about your child whom you are buying the book for. At first, I was unsure about this though after some research I found that this company is extremely safe and is very popular so I decided to go ahead with it.
The details you need to fill in are;
* First and Last name of the child
* Birthday (date, month and year)
* Address including town (this both appears in the book and is also needed for delivery)
* Three friends names
* Who the book is from
Payment methods can be from many different card types as well as paypal which is useful. If you are sending it via post you can also send a cheque if preferred, though I just put my card details on the form to save time. This again is also safe though of course with the post you do have the worry about someone opening it. To be honest, I am planning on getting another adventure book from this company at some point and will probably opt for online ordering.
MY SPECIAL CHRISTMAS
The book only took a couple of weeks to arrive and was securely wrapped as you would expect.
On opening the package, I was very happy. The front cover was bold and colourful and perfect for any young child. The glossy effect to the cover just adds to the attractive layout. The drawings seem to be aimed at slightly older children though my daughter did not seem to mind. In comparison to my own Christmas adventure book, this book is much more modern looking and more attractive (though my old little book will always have a place in my heart!).
On opening the book, you will find an introduction page with the words;
'This book was especially written for (childs name) with love from (sender).
On hearing her name even at this first page, my daughter became excited saying 'that's me!'.
The story is not that much different from my old one, though it has been enhanced and modernised. The story follows your child and their friends as they get ready for Christmas. The Angel on top of the tree takes your child to Santa's workshop where they become Santa's special helper and help Santa deliver the presents all over the world whilst learning about different Christmas traditions in all the different countries before heading back home and going to bed to wake up on Christmas morning.
There are many Christmas books on the market though in my opinion, nothing beats this. My daughter loved hearing her name and the names of her cousin and young uncle and auntie in the story and got very excited every single time one was mentioned. I think that this book is one she sits still and listens all the way through unlike some others and with the interaction of hearing names she knows, it makes it ten times better than any other Christmas story she has (she has a few!).
The lovely pictures follow throughout the whole book and is beautifully presented. Within some pictures, there is a typed word or two which goes along with the story and your choice in personalisation. For example, on the second page there is a fireplace and on the mantel is a letter to Santa and on it, it says from (childs name). This is another small touch to the book which makes it really worth buying as not only does the story include your child and friends but the pictures do too. I just find this makes it that much more special.
The book is 30 pages long and grows with your child. It is a lovely memorable keepsake and my daughter loves listening to me read it to her and hopefully as she grows older, hopefully she will love reading it to herself as much as I did with my own copy.
There are two different sizes of this book to choose from.
Standard books - 225mm x 165mm.
Extra big books - 275mm x 200mm.
My daughter has the standard size book which we brought for £8.99, though if you choose the slightly bigger version you will only pay an extra £3.00.
Delivery charge is only £1.99 which is great.
There are also a few deals available with delivery charges. You pay the standard delivery for orders under £14.99 and only pay £4.99 delivery for orders up to £74.99 which works great if you are paying the higher price though probably not so much with the £15.00 price. If you are ordering absolutely loads and it comes to over £75 then delivery is free.
Although £8.99 is quite a lot for a childs book, I certainly did not mind paying it for this Christmas book. The personalisation is fantastic and my daughter thoroughly enjoys it and it is one book which will last years.
There is nothing overly negative at all about this book at all. I loved my own copy as a child and now my daughter thoroughly loves her own modernised copy. It is a keepsake which will last for years and well worth the money.
Fully Recommended from me!
A lovely online store for personalised products. They have a HUGE range of products that you can personalise. All products are geared towards children and have bright, cheery colours.
Their top-selling products are their Adventure Books. You can have your child, and three of their friends, star in their very own adventure with the likes of Snow White, Winnie the Pooh, Dora the Explorer etc. They have a good selection of characters and stories to choose from, both for boys as well as girls. The books are of very good quality.
In addition they have school items like backpacks, lunch bags and stationery sets as well as loads of other items a child would like. My personal favourite is the fairy bookends, they look gorgeous.
It is worth checking out their sale section as they sometimes do very good offers, especially coming up to Christmas. They've had Christmas and Birthday books for 1p (yes a penny!) and personalised clocks for £2 in the recent past. They have a delivery charge of £1.99 but it goes up for a higher order.
Delivery is very slow. It can take upto 21 days to get your products as the goods are shipped from Australia. The end result is worth it though. My children and my nieces have loved their personalised stuff. Look through their range at www.identitydirect.com, it's worth a browse! My reviews can also be found on ciao and helphound.
How do you make a child's gift uniquely theirs? Personalise it of course!
www.identitydirect.co.uk is where it is. Just log on and see their range. A whole host of toys, books, stationery and school items, home accessories etc., all of which can be personalised with the child's name.
So what exactly do they have
One of their most popular products are the adventure books. Your child (or the child you are giving the gift to) can star in their own special adventure featuring some of their favourite book or tv characters.
Then just for Christmas, you get another range of products like song CDs (featuring the child's name in the songs), stockings, advent calendars, baubles, santa hats, christmas tree skirts etc. All with your choice of wording on it.
For your child's bedroom you get wall clocks, growth charts, jewellery boxes, throws, blankets, book racks, mirrors, quilt sets, cushion covers, bookends, storage boxes, beanbags, folding chairs etc. Not only are all of them personalised with the child's name but are also available in a choice of themes like Spongebob, Thomas, Mickey, Dora, Cars and Disney princess.
Then there's also bathroom items like towels, bathrobes and toiletry bags as well as personalised placemats for your dining room.
There is a big selection of school items - lunch bags, lunch boxes, backpacks, personalised stationery sets, vinyl labels etc.
For babies you have cute teddy bears with the child's name and date of birth embroidered into each of its paws, baby quilt sets and cute fluffy blankets.
All these are very cutesy, colourful products that are aimed at children.
My Adventure Books
The adventure series go as "My Adventures with Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs", "My Adventures with Winnie the Pooh", "My Special Christmas Adventure" and so on. The other adventures available are Disney Cars, Disney Princess Collection, Dora the Explorer, Sesame Street, Ratatouille, Disney Fairies, Elmo and Friends, Pirates of the Carribean, Finding Nemo and Toy Story 2. New adventures get added sometimes too.
First select the book of your choice. On the inner first page (title page) will be the inscription "With love from" and you can have your name printed there! So you supply the details like child's name, gender, birthdate, address, and even the names of three friends. All of those details will be incorporated into the story, making it extra special for the child. For example when I ordered "My Adventures with Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" for my niece, in the story she was given her birth stone as a gift by a prince. Her address is mentioned when she tries to get back home after her adventure.
These books are of very good quality, with beautiful illustrations, colourful and pleasing to the eye. What a lovely keepsake for the child even when he/she is older, a book with their name on it!
Adventure books come in two sizes - large and standard. Prices range £6.99 to £12.99. For £14.99 is a new chrismas adventure book where your child's picture will also be printed in the illustrations.
Ordering other products
Ordering the other products are fairly straightforward as all the information needed is the child's name. Fonts for most products are fixed, you cannot change the fonts, but you have an option to preview what your child's name will look like on the selected product.
My opinion on products I've ordered
Delivery time isn't the best. Goods take 28 days (yes you read that right) to arrive. They are dispatched from Australia so best not to order these if you want them in a hurry.
The books are of proper book quality, like the normal children's books you'll find in shops. The only thing I did not like was the blatant advertising on the last page. Nothing unusual, but a bit too in-your-face for my liking. They also had the very helpful message "Other books in your order may be dispatched seperately. Please allow X days for delivery" printed on the said last page. Maybe they're doing the environment a favour and saving on paper, but it's not the kind of thing you'd expect to be printed on the PRODUCT itself.
The other products I have ordered have been of very good quality too. The only exception are the placemats. My elder daughter has a princess one and the younger has a Sesame Street one. Don't get me wrong they absolutely love their placemats and I feel that it even helps with the little one recognising her name. But they are a just a piece of laminated card, I wouldn't recommend it for that price (£7.50).
The website itself
Pretty standard website. Straightforward sign up and order process. All delivery and payment details on one screen.
No postage charges for orders over £75. £1.99 P&P for orders upto £15. £4.99 for orders between £15 and £75.
If your children have unusual names like mine do, chances are they never get to buy the "readymade" personalised stuff you find in shops. No problems now that I've found Identity Direct!
