I've found myself buying a lot of sports items for my boyfriend recently so the JD Sports website has ended up in my favourites list and I'm using it more and more.
The site is very well laid out and easy to navigate. It has the main departments - women, men, kids, and sale - on tabs across the top so you can quickly jump to the relevant section. Each of these then has subgroups in a drop-down box so if you know specifically what you're after you can go straight there. Each item is clearly detailed with photos and all the relevant information so you know exactly what you're buying.
There are the usual help sections and FAQ pages for if there's anything you're unsure of, and they also have sizing charts to help you with choosing the right sizes.
The site, like the store, sells all the major brands of Sports clothing, footwear and accessories, with price ranges to suit every budget. They're not always the cheapest for certain items, but they are definitely competitively priced on all their items, and I have found a few things cheaper there than anywhere else. I've bought quite a few football shirts from them and often these have been the best price I could find, with printing and postage costs taken into account.
The items I've bought have ranged from football boots and shirts for my boyfriend to hats and bikinis for myself and cute little trainers for my nephews, and I've certainly managed to pick up some bargains along the way. The sale section is pretty good, and unlike other stores they don't seem to have loads of sale items on the site which are actually sold out.
The checkout process is quick and easy and they accept all the major debit and credit cards. After registering you can log in and out of the site to change your details or track your order. I've never had to use the order tracker as my parcels have always arrived within 2 working days of ordering, which I think is fantastic as I use the standard delivery which is free on orders over £25. You can also choose to pay for faster delivery options or free delivery to a JD store.
Every single item I've ever bought from them has been of high quality as expected, and everything has arrived in perfect condition, and they even throw in a free drawstring carrier bag. I've never had even the slightest problem with the products or service, so I've never had any need to contact customer services. Overall a fantastic site!
From childhood, JD Sports has been the big name to buy sportswear and trainers from -it was always cooler to get your school bag and P.E. trainers from there than JJB or Allsports (RIP). Now I'm a grown up I don't need a sports kit but I still shop online with JD for my gym wear and gifts for my boyfriend's birthday.
There's a really great selection of gymwear for women, from beginner's lower priced stuff like leggings and plain vests from Pure Simple to the heavy duty performance wear for hardcore athletes from brands like Nike and adidas. My only criticism would be that for beginners there's not much guidance on which kit is best for which activity (running/aerobics etc).
As for the men's side of things, the trainer selection is huge, with loads of versions that you can't buy anywhere but JD. If you've got a partner that's into trainers (or are yourself) then this is the place to go. They don't come cheap though so be prepared to spend £60+ on a decent pair - unless you find yourself a sale bargain!
I've never had a problem with delivery, it can take 2 or 3 days but I haven't yet had a delivery that's fallen outside the timescales stated on the site. It'd be nice if there was free delivery on everything (it's free if you spend over £50) but at a flat £3.95 there are more expensive sites so it's pretty reasonable.
Working in the online arena as I do, I always take an interest in how the big retailers perform online. Quite often a retailer will offer a wide selection of products and a great shopping experience in their stores but when it comes to replicating this experience and offer online they fall down. This was not the case with JD Sports.
Starting with the product offering, JD Sports have a substantial selection of products and brands. They seemed to have all the products I had seen in store and some extra ones which they had marked as 'online exclusives'. Despite this being expected by customers as the basic requirement of an online store, it is amazing how many multi channel retailers still do not offer the same choice of products online as they do in store.
I'm a big fan of brands like adidas Originals and Nike, as well as the classics such as Lacoste and Converse so it's great having up-to-date styles all in one place.
NAVIGATION & SHOPPING
Brilliantly simple to browse, everything split out by gender and then you can filter by brand, price etc. All the information I needed was clearly displayed and in a format that was easy to digest. The search box function could have been improved with the addition of a 'suggested search' or 'did you mean' function. However overall, I felt it was very simple to find the products I wanted, even when I wasn't sure what products I wanted.
The product shots on the site were good. Each product is shot from 6 different angles, with each product offering a very detailed zoom function. I could really get into all the details of the trainers, the lack of a good zoom function can often be a big obstacle to buying online so it is good to see that JD Sports have invested some time in getting this to a decent standard.
It is also reassuring to see the same images used instore as are used online. This helps to create the same atmosphere online as in my local JD. This may not seem a big thing and I wouldn't say it adds anything to the shopping experience but if done poorly it can certainly detract from the shopping experience and create a sense of anxiety and uncertainty.
CHECK OUT PROCESS
This was particularly impressive. Adding items to my basket as I browsed was very simple and then there was a straight forward checkout process. There is very little to say on this area because they've done it so well.
I ordered my products to be delivered next day and they were delivered next day, so again very little to say on this because it was done without mistake or error.
I have only had to contact their customer services once (regarding an order I placed last year). I was having some issues signing into the site so rang the online support line. The operator was helpful and polite.
