I ordered a gorgeous gothic style black dress from Joe Browns a few years ago and I loved it - I still do. It was a one off purchase for a hallowen party but because of the quality of the dress, the unique style and the quick delivery, I decided to have a browse on their website every now and again to keep my eye out for any bits and bobs that may take my fancy. I regulary recieve the company's monthly catelouge and this month, it had a £10 off voucher which I used last week to order a gorgeous (but very expensive!) pair of gloves.
The Joe Browns website (joebrowns.co.uk) isn't the prettiest, the colour scheme is khaki green and red, which doesn't appeal to me and if i'm honest puts me off the site a little bit, however I suppose that it's unisex and so will appeal to a majority of the men and women who are fans of Joe Browns.
The website is a bit jumbled to be honest, however once you actually get over the in-your-face colour scheme and the large portion of the page that is advertising particular products (a slide show which shows the latest products, best selling products etc), it is quite easy to navigate. On the left side of the page it has the different catergories which consists of men's clothing, women's clothing, gifts & accessories.
There's also two catergories entitled men's bargains and women's bargains, which has the sale items. This is the section that I usually check out first! At the bottom of the page there is the site navigation, which includes delivery & returns information, a help section including FAQ's, legal information and a section entitled 'other stuff' which has various sections including Joe Brown's blog, customer service info/contact info and a brief bit of info about who Joe Browns is/about the company.
The clothes on this site are quite eccentric (or unique!) and I am not really keen on most of them. The main stuff that the site sells is fancy women's clothing such as posh cardi's with unusual designs, expensive party dresses, nice jeans etc. The mens section is mainly t shirts, jackets, jeans and the items are equally expensive. Accessories include gloves, hats, ear muffs, belts, jewellery etc.
My dress that I bought from here around 3 years ago was £65, and my more recent purchase, a pair of aspen mittens was £17. As you can see the clothes aren't the cheapest, but I suppose that because of the unusual style and good quality it is worth it - when I buy something from Joe Brown's, I knows that it will not be everywhere, and when I go out I won't be greeted with someone wearing the exact same top as me.
The site is easy to use and creating an account is quick and simple, as is logging into an already existing account. Searching for items is also easy as the site has a search bar at the top. Adding items to the basket is a bit weird as you have to wait 5 seconds before it gets added, and if you don't wait for the full 5 seconds it won't be added - not sure why but nevermind, it doesn't effect how good the site is.
Paying is easy and there is an option to pay with a variety of credit cards including the usual visa and mastercard. As far as I am aware it isn't possible to pay with paypal which may be a disadvantage for some people. Once you have paid you get a confirmation email with an order number.
Delivery is quite expensive at £4 (to the uk, it's £7 elsewhere & they deliver worldwide) but the delivery is quick, hassle free and so I don't really see an issue with paying that bit more. Joe Brown's deliver their clothing via royal mail 2nd class or through a courier (Hermmes). I have always recieved my goods via courier, who recquire a signature on delivery. The courier's have always been reasonably polite and i've never had an issue with goods not being delivered. I usually recieve my parcel withing 2-3 days of ordering and there is always a tracking number which means I can check the status of the delivery whenever I want.
The packaging of the parcels varies, it is either a thin plastic packet or a cardboard box. Both are secure and easy to open. A receipt and a returns form is in the package and sometimes you get leaflets with additional offers such as photo printing services for 40% off etc.
The site overall is good, the clothes are quite expensive and unusual and I do sometimes struggle to find anything I like however when I do spot something I like I just have to get it! They often get new stock in so I regulary check the site for new styles and there's also quite a few deals available at times. The delivery is a bit expensive but the service is flawless - I really reccomend this website.
Joe Browns first came to my attention when I was round at my mum's house and noticed a small catalogue on lying on her table along with loads of other mail order bunff. As a person who doesn't really like to follow the crowd yet doesn't really have a set style Ireally liked what I saw.
The clothes in the catalogue contained loads of styles that wouldn't be available on the high street combined with some average kind of styles.
The catalogue contained both men and womens clothing, plus a few gift ideas.
I decided to investigate further and check out their website.
What/who is Joe Brown?
To be honest I do not know the answer to that question. However what I do know is that the company doesn't just aim to offer unique clothing to it's customers but wants them to make a life style choice.
it's basically bringing unique and individual clothing to the masses.
The website is very simply laid out and therefore extremely easy to navigate. It's not overly colourful but has eye-catching graphics and pictures.
The pictures on the home page are normally of their best selling items.
The products on the site have been broken down into 5 categories; Women's Clothing, Men's Clothing, Women's Bargains, Men's Bargains, Gifts and Accessories and adventure.
If you know the code or product name of an item you'd like to look at you can type this in the search box at the top of the page.
Of course the main categories are broken down into small ones to narrow down your browsing and making products easier to find. You can then sort the order by cheapest, dearest, A to Z, most popular, etc.
The adventure category is basically shows adrenalin experiences and gift packages, such as; Sphering, Airkix, Tank battle paintballing, etc
All the boring stuff and small print, legal stuff, info on delivery, returns and can be found at the very bottom of the homepage, but it's all vary comprehensive and straightforward.
The home page also has a tab, which says "visit planet Joe". Here you can find out more about the company, read blogs by staff and customers, listen to music, watch videos, upload pics of you and your friends having fun, download wallpaper and even learn skills for life.
Once you've decided on your purchases, ordering is easy. Click on the product, this will come up with what sizes are still in stock, click on the size you require to add it to your basket.
Once on your basket view, checkout is simple, but you do have to register to become a customer. This process takes 2 mins tops.
payment is secure and £4 is charged for delivery (except on vouchers which is £2).
They will deliver overseas but costs vary depending on where in the world.
The prices are the same as mid high street stores, such as Next rather than high end. everything is pretty reasonable and there is always a bargain to be had in their sales.
Returns & Exchanges
Customers returning items are able to obtain a full refund within 21 days of the company receiving the items back. Customers can request an exchange. Returns service is not free and customers will have to pay themselves to return an item. If you are exchanging an item you will not be charged twice for delivery. Exchanges and refunds can be organised on the site.
Before I checked out the website my mum told me she had been using the company for a few years and that she had no major problems ordering, with quality or returns. However she did warn me that the sizes weren't too generous and even though she's a perfect size 10 in most shops she had to order a 12. I took heed when placing my first order. First off I ordered a pair of funky jeans and a top, I usually take a 14 jeans but went for the 16 instead and I also sized up on the top. My order took 2 days to arrive and although there is a tracking device on the website I didn't bother as they emailed me the day after my order to say it had been dispatched.
When they arrived I was really glad I sized up as they are actually a perfect fit and great quality too. They've washed really well. The only slight niggle I have with the jeans is the second time I wore them I got caught in a storm and when I took the wet jeans off my legs were blue and it took me a while to realize it was off the jeans and I had contracted some strange disease or very poor circulation.
Since then I've placed more orders and have been very satisfied and lucky that I haven't had to return any items.
I love the clothes, they stand out from the crowd yet are very stylish. The prices are reasonable and delivery is rapid.
However I do have a few gripes. No kids clothes, they need a kids clothes range. I have also found that sometimes they'll send me a catalogue and some of the gift and accessories in it won't be on the site.
if I had to return something I wouldn't be thrilled at paying to return it.
despite my gripes I would highly recommend Joe Brown's for something a little different from the norm and there are always bargains to be had on the site but take heed and size up.
I own a number of items of Joe Brown's clothing. I first discovered their clothing about 4 years ago when I recieved a catalogue through my door.
Joe Brown's make clothing for both men and women. Their designs are unique and funky. Their clothing is out of the ordinary, it consists of bright and bold prints, quirky cuts and styles and fun designs.
You can order in two ways online at Joebrowns.co.uk or from their catalogue which you can request online or by calling 01132706655, I should also mention that Joe Brown's have a shop on Amazon, so you could use your DooYoo miles there!
I always order from their website as it is so easy to use and shows all of the latest offers. The website is brightly coloured and shows the latest offers on the homepage. On the left hand side of the page there are icons for men's clothing, women's clothing, gifts and accesories and women's and men's bargains. When you click on one of the icons you get a drop down list which details the different types of clothes you can purchase. You can choose to view all of the items on one page for easy shopping. Once you have found an item you like when you click on it for more information you are able to see what items are in stock this is shown with a green tick, if it's sold out a red cross and if it's low stock you get a white tick and if it's going to be delayed it tells you how many weeks you need to wait. This is shown for all sizes at a glance so you don't have to go all the way to the checkout to then find that the item is out of stock.
When you add an item to the basket it also keeps you on the same page it doesn't automatically transfer you there which is great as I hate having to go back several pages and restart my search again. You also get for each individual item reviews and an overall rating. The website also handily recommends other items you may like based on what you are looking at.
It is easy to check out and once you have registered once you only need to log in for future occassions.
The delivery of items from the Joe Brown's website costs £4 they deliver to all of mainland UK and they also ship abroad they give details of the prices on their website.
I have ordered off the website a few times and my items have always turned up a couple of days later. The items are well packaged and return details are clearly marked on the invoice.
The items Joe Brown's sell of of very high quality, I own several jumpers, dresses and t shirts all of which has washed extremelly well.
All in all this is a very good website it is laid out to be consumer friendly and if you give an item a bad review or have a problem with it you will get a response from one of the team which is publically displayed.
I would recommend this to people who like unique fashion, their prices are reasonable and you get items you can't find in the shops.
I'd first heard about Joe Browns from a girl at work. She's one of them people that always looks fantastic and wears all these gorgeous clothes. She brought a Joe Browns catalogue into work after a few of us had commented. The catalogue itself was really funky and colourful. Shortly after I had a browse of the website and was even more happy to see that money I spent at Joe Browns could also equate to miles through airmiles. (Just an added incentive for me!)
The website is of a similar design to the catalogues. Really fun and colourful. It is also really user friendly. I especially like it that when you click on an item to add to basket it doesn't take you away from that page but instead a message just flags up. What I also like is that for each item of clothing it will show you other items which would complete the look (a very good sale technique).
So the website itself offers your standard mens and womenswear as well as gifts and accessories. The only random thing I would say is that it has an adventure tab which allows you also to buy experience days and gifts. I've not bought anything from that side of Joe Browns and havn't compared it to other experience gifts on the market so I cant really comment on that. But from my browsing it seems to have a good selection.
The clothes themselves are like the website fun and colourful. Most item designs are very individual and unique compared to your normal high street shops. I have found the items I have bought from Joe Browns have also been of very good quality. The price is also really reasonable. I am not one that likes to splash out on expensive clothes so I am really pleased to find somewhere with good quality clothes for a good price.
The only downside is probably the £3.95 delivery charge which although is pretty standard pricing I just dont like paying it!!! I've never had any problems with delivery to be honest I think they are fairly quick. I have also used the exchange service to change something to a different size and again never had any problems and suprisingly very fast.
I think the best thing about Joe Browns is probably the sale. They always have amazing sales in which items will occassionaly be more than half price. I bought a gorgeous necklace from there which would usually be about £15 and it was reduced to about £4.99. Everyone always comments on it whenever I wear it.
To summarise if I could buy everything from Joe Browns I would!
I discovered Joe Browns last year, when a catalogue appeared through my door. I would normally throw this kind of thing away, but a few of the clothes really caught my eye. I don't massively enjoy clothes shopping on the high street and decided to order a few things to see what they were like. I was completely delighted. The two best things about them is firstly the quality of the clothing is lovely. The material feels great and thought and attention has gone into the finish of the clothes. Secondly (and this is fab), their sizing chart is really accurate and is specific to each individual item. So for example on one top I needed a 14 due to the way it was cut and in the rest of the clothes I was a 12. Having this was a real bonus as it meant that everything fitted the first time round and I didn't need to send anything back. On top of that it is all packaged really well and delivery was swift. They also have FANTASTIC sales too. This is my new number one place to shop. Loads of people have commented on the clothes I have bought from there and I have been happy to recommend them.
I work with a nice girl aged 27 who always without fair wears what I would consider to be funky, cheerful and quirky clothing. One day whilst talking on our tea break about what we was both wearing to our staff Christmas meal she described what sounded like the perfect dress. Me being inquisitve very politely asked where she got it from. She was more than happy to tell me it was from an online website called Joe Browns and that this is where she buys all of her clothes. Up until this moment I had never heard of Joe Browns.
Upon returning home from work that day I looked it up online to see what I had been missing out on.
Joe Browns is an online clothing retailer who specialise in a certain look or trend that I would describe as chic, individual, hippy, individual and surfer dude. They sell men and womens clothing as well as shoes, accessories and gifts. Their clothing has a kind of quirky feel to it and some items have a unique pattern or design that you do not usually come across highstreet stores. I like this as each item is unique and different meaning it is less likely everyone looks the same.
I feel Joe Browns is suitable for anyone who likes to look individual and stand out from the croud. I could see that this website would appeal to people of all ages. It has the funky motif tshirts, the simple yet stylish jumper, the pretty dresses or just plain cami tops, something for everyone. Seems as this is a funky website each item of clothing is named as such. Examples include Camden Town Skirt, Graceful Greys Cami and Stand and Deliver Dress.
Regarding the price Joe Browns is not the cheapest there is around but the quality is very high and I have no complaints regarding any of my items. The colours do not fade, the items do not shrink so they are of a good quality. Examples of average prices to give you a general idea of what you would get for your money:
~ Chunky belt- £19.95
~ Pair of jeans- £37.95
~ Summer sandals- £19.95
~ Versatile cami- £7.95
(I selected these items at random)
A tiny complaint is they do sizes from an 8-18, on some ocassions some items go to a 20. Anyone who requires a size larger than 18 might struggle to be accomodated.
Postage and packaging is £3.95. I know this seems like a lot but each time I have ordered anything from Joe Browns it has arrived within a matter of days.
The website itself is very easy to navigate yourself around. Clothing is split into sections down the left hand side:
~ Womens clothing
~ Mens clothing
~ Gifts and accessories
~ Womens bargains
~ Mens bargains
I get email updates sent to me and a Joe Browns catalogue sent through the post..... not that I need any temptation!!!
Joe Browns can also be found on Ebay or Amazon although I always just buy direct from the above website.
Joe Browns also accept returns within 21 days (I think) and in my experience have always been more than helpful.
I wore a dress from Joe Browns to a meal once and a number of people asked me where I got it from.
personally I would recommend this site as the service could not be any better and the clothes are just delightful.
Currently I have my beady little eye on the most wonderful cream above ankle slippers that would be so cosy...... I might jsut treat my little self!!
Joe Browns is an online clothing retailer who specialise in a specific look or trend that I'd call a mix of festival chic, hippy, eco-warrior and surfer dude. They sell both men and womens clothing as well as shoes and accessories. A lot of their clothing has a kind of quirky quality and often has a unique pattern or design that is never seen in highstreet stores. To reflect the spirit of the clothing designs most pieces are given an equally unique name. Sometimes these names can be a little oddball or a bit juvenile - the "funky funtime dress" or the "Genie Genius Dress" for instance, are two of their items. They also have some motif t-shirts which are often printed with 'cool' slogans, well known cartoon characters, humourous phrases, arty symbols or inspirational figures/scenes.
I would say that the range is aimed at younger customers - especially those of university student age. The aim of the Joe Browns range of clothing is really about expressing your individuality, life-force and spirit so it makes sense for the younger age ranges to find the clothes appealling. However, I'm in my thirties and I still enjoy wearing some of the clothes as I find them so cute, original and different.
Price wise I'd say Joe Browns is one of the more expensive stores with prices for plain shirts being around £22, t-shirts at around £15-£20 and trousers/jeans up to around £40. I feel that the quality of the clothes is pretty good though and that you are also paying for the unique designs. I would say that perhaps the jewellry range is a little expensive and that similar items can be found at a cheaper price elsewhere though. One thing to note is that a lot of things, becasue of the nature and high quality of the material, tend to be specialist wash (like dry clean only or cold hand wash) and often this is not specified in the item details, so just be aware of that.
Joe Browns do sizes in up to 18 on their website but I have seen some of the range featured in the Simply Be Catalogue which is a specialist clothing range for larger ladies. My mum has bought a jumper from this range and the clothes look great whatever the size. A few years ago Joe Browns sizes used to be on the smaller size - so I would go for one size bigger than I usually wear. When I recently re-visited the store however, the sizes now seem pretty standard. In any case, each item is marked with individual measurements of bust and length etc.
I recently saw a few things on the Joe browns website that I just had to have. I found the process of ordering very easy. The web site has a simple design with a menu down one side of the page which sperates the clothese into categories of male/female as well as the type of clothing (tee shirts, jeans etc). When you click on the menu category the range of clothes appears on the right with the price of the item highlighted underneath. Once you click through to find out more information about a specific item, however, the price vanishes. This is the biggest problem I have with the website - that I have to keep going back to the main page to check the prices! The other problem I have is that none of the clothes are pictured as worn and are always laid out flat, so that I can never see how they actually look on someone. This is a big dissapointment and I have not bought a few things because I just wasn't sure how it would end up looking on my body! I definately think the company should highlight a few pieces by using a couple of models.
The items have a list of sizes available and these are marked with a simple colour coded key to show it's in-stock status. You choose your size and then this is automatically added to your basket. When you have finished shopping you click the large 'Checkout' button in the corner of the page. This takes you to your 'basket' where you can review your total cost and then in turn a page where you can either login (if you have shopped there before) or register. Registration is an easy process and requires you to give your personal details. The standard delivery cost is £3.95 and there is an option for using discount codes available.
After ordering you recieve an email detailing the order and the delivery process. My last order took only two days to arrive which I thought was very prompt! With your goods you recieve an invoice which also doubles up as your return slip and postage label should you need to send anything back. If you do, you must pay the return postage yourself - this will depend on the weight of the parcel. You also cannot claim the orignal postage cost of £3.95 back on your refund. When I sent a dress back last time I ordered I was refunded within four days, which is very acceptable.
Overall I'm very pleased with the Joe Browns service. I feel that the company are honest in keeping me informed about my order. I like the fact that they deliver so quickly. I also feel safe in the knowledge that my returns and refunds will be dealt with in a professional manner. Joe Browns is a site I have bookmarked and I definately see myself buying more from them in the future.
You can visit the Joe Browns portal at their website, request a paper catalogue and see their range at:
They can also be found on Ebay and Amazon.
This is one of the best online shopping sites I have used. I really like it. I purchased some Jeans, some boots and some little kitsch items since I have been shopping on the site.
The site sells menswear and womenswear and has a real hippy / retro vibe, as you will see from the site design and products stocked. It is user friendly and the checkout is secure. You can even earn cashback if you visit the site via www.quidco.com.
Delivery is quite speedy, most items are delivered within 2 or 3 days and the postage is £3.95. If you sign up to the newsletter and the magazine through the post you will quite often receive special offers including free postage, so it is worth it.
On some orders, if you spend so much, you will receive a free gift, so this is another incentive to use the site.
Returns can be made up to 21 days after receiving the goods. This is less than you are given on the high street so be ware, and ensure you dont buy goods as a gift and exceed the returns period. They will accept goods back if they become faulty for up to 6 months after purchase.
As I have said, I have jeans from the site, they have been worn over and over and the quality has not deteriorated at all, they were around £45 and compared to jeans from the high street for the same price, they are much nicer quality and quite individual. I also have a pair of boots, which were about £30 they are snow boots and are fleece lined, nicer than UGGs and less prone to staining and damage - they still look brand new, despite me wearing them non stop. My favourite item which is still stocked is the Dodge Viper 'seat' Belt. It is fully adjustable and really unusual. I get lots of comments when I wear it.
The clearance section is good too, particularly socks and slippers. Buy them through the year, for gifts at Xmas.
A sale catalogue from Joe Browns has come through the letterbox and, as always, I have mixed feelings about looking at it.
Joe Browns is a clothes retailer for men and women which operates on-line and through the post or the telephone. The clothes are mostly targetted at a funky festival crowd but also have some good staple items.
Examples of clothes
The catalogue is well laid out in an attractive way that tempts you to keep on turning the pages. The female stuff is in the front of the catalogue and the blokes stuff at the back - but, I think this is switched sometimes. For girls, there are dresses, trousers, skirts, shorts, camisole tops, t shirts, sandals and boots. There is a photo of the item and some blurb to go with it. For example The 'Fresh Charismatic Dress' has the description,
' A fresh and funky number that looks a little bit vintage and it's based on our best-selling charismatic top. Lovely!'
Blokes can buy trousers, shorts, t shirts, hawaiian shirts, hoodies, shirts, jackets, bools and sandals and there is a similar description for each of the items.
There are also accessories that either sex can wear/use.
I have never seen any of the clothes that Joe Browns sells available anywhere else and I am a bit of a hawk-eye for spotting things. I can usually spot New Look or Next clothes when I see someone wearing an item but despite having studied many a catalogue, I don't see the clothing in high store outlets.
I really do like the funky, festival style and the great basic items and I would like to buy them but - they shrink.
I follow washing instructions to the letter but once the t shirt is put back on it is no longer the same size. I bought a long-sleeved cotton jersey t shirt with blue flowers and interesting netting inserts (I don't think I have done it justice in this description) which I enjoyed wearing with a skirt. I washed it as per - and then the top looked stupid because it didn't reach the waisband of my skirt properly. I did a lot of tugging downward but to no avail.
The top sat in my wardrobe while I tried to persuade myself I would find a way to wear it again but I never did. It was over a year later that I took it out and put it into the charity shop bag. Hopefully someone with a short torso would find a use for it.
A similar thing happened to a set of black and white basic t shirts that I had from Joe Browns.
The good news
I bought a pair of vegan biker boots from Joe Browns about 3 yrs ago and they are still going strong. They have become a little scuffed but I have worn them to work and been very active in them. At the moment, I have my eye on a pair of vegan 'snug boots' which are reduced from £21.95 to £17.95.
This brings me neatly to their sale reductions. Some lines have a small reduction which hardly seems worthwhile but the odd item might be reduced by 40 or 60%. So it is worth a look.
Non sale items are not uber cheap. A t shirt may be around the £13 mark, a shirt £40 a jacket £45 and a dress around £30.
The shrinkage thing is a big problem. If you are buying cotton - be prepared for it. Get a bigger size. Ask yourself - is the length of that t-shirt enough to allow for some movement upwards.
It is a big faff having to send things back; fore-warned is fore-armed.
As my title suggests, 'Joe Brown's' is a clothing store which I share a name with. I probably found the shop initially via searching for myself on the internet (as you do!), and if you type 'Joe Brown' into Yahoo, the shop is the third result returned after the singer Joe Brown (www.joebrown.co.uk), and a shop which sells mountaineering gear (www.joe-brown.co.uk).
Joe Brown's sells both men's and women's clothing, and the prices are quite reasonable. Many of the T-shirts cost around £15, and you can get a regular buttoning shirt or some shorts for a similar price.
The shop regularly reduces its prices, and there is an "up to 60% off" sale on at the moment, meaning that it's a good place to get some summer clothes. That said, I don't find that many of the items that Joe Brown's sells to be that stylish, although there are occasionally some very cool shirts.
I have only ever made two purchases from Joe Brown's, and one of which was a T-shirt saying 'Joe Brown's' on the front... who could resist buying a shirt with their own name on it?! - actually, i've only worn it a couple of times as the novelty wore off fairly quickly.
The Joe Brown's T-shirts are quite cool in the sense that many of them use logos and slogans from TV and films, e.g Rocky, Batman, The Simpson's, and Heroes ("Save the Cheerleader, Save the world"), to give a few examples.
As well as clothes, the shop sells accessories in the form of belts, scarves, bags, candles and even ice cream flavoured lip balm - but I managed to resist buying that!
One thing I noticed about the shop, is that the clothing is slightly on the small side - especially after being washed, so it may be an idea to buy one size larger than you normally get.
The quality of the products is very good, and all the stitching is of a high standard. The logo's on the T-shirts that I have bought are of the embossed sort, and have survived being washed a few times without the text flaking off.
All in all, Joe Brown's is a clothes shop which, due to its reasonably priced items, is well worth a look. Although I generally find the clothes to be not really my cup of tea, there is occasionally something which catches my attention.
Joe Browns is an online and mail order company that sells men's and women's casual, surfer style clothing.
We've often flicked through their mini catalogue that has somehow found its way into our house, but I only recently placed an order when I found I could get a 15% discount using my Egg credit card. I placed my order using the Joe Brown's website, so that is what I'm reviewing.
I think the website is pretty easy on the eye and not too cluttered. The main menus on the left can be clicked on to produce more detailed clothing categories for you to browse.
There is also a Search function where you can enter either a product code or keyword and this works very well, even well you misspell a word, which is very handy for the clumsy typist!
When you look at a clothing category, the products are very well laid out as thumbnails and it allows you to display all items in the category on one page which I really like as it makes browsing easier. When you click on an item it gives you a description of the item, including what material it is made from. The photo of the item is quite large, but it does allow you to view a larger image, which is handy as the bigger the better. Unfortunately, they only have one image available per item, whereas I like a few images taken from different angles and also close-up shots to show any details on the clothes, for example a logo. I also like images of the clothing actually being worn by a model, as this gives a better idea of how it will look on the body.
However, they make up for this with their comprehensive sizing guide. The measurements are the actual sizes of the garment and not the recommended body size. I therefore found it much easier and more accurate to order the right size and everything I ordered was spot on size-wise, which never happens when I order things online!
The stock levels for different sizes are plain to see and it tells you how many weeks you would have to wait if your size isn't in stock, which is vital information if you need your new frock for a special occasion!
Ordering is very simple and straightforward; just add items to your basket and checkout. You can register and create an account if you want to, but this isn't necessary.
PRICES & DELIVERY:
I would say the prices for their clothes are quite reasonable, considering that they are a brand and they do have some unusual designs, so you won't be wearing the same thing as everyone else! To give you an idea of prices, here's what we ordered (prices are before discount):
- Dress £19.95
- Women's Top £24.95
- Women's Cropped trousers £22.95
- Pack 3 Men's T-shirt hoodies £24.95
- Men's T-shirt £13.95
- Men's shirt £17.95
There is a flat rate charge of £3.95 per order for delivery, which is about the standard rate from most online clothing companies. They don't offer a free returns service in order to keep the cost of their clothing down.
CONFIRMATION OF ORDER AND DISPATCH AND DELIVERY:
I placed my order on Sunday 24th May and I received a confirmation email straight away. They also debited my credit card. The following day I received an email to say my order was being processed as soon as possible, but I should allow up to 7 working days for delivery of available items. On Thursday 28th May I received another email to confirm my order had been dispatched and it arrived the following day by courier, so speed of delivery wasn't too bad.
I was thrilled with all the items I'd ordered for myself, but my fiancé wasn't too impressed with the items that he'd chosen for himself. Bearing in mind he hates shopping (both off and online) so he doesn't really spend that much time browsing or choosing things to buy, I wasn't really surprised that he wanted to send his 3 items back. The shirt that he'd ordered didn't look anything like the photo on the website, as it was quite see-through material and the buttons looked a bit cheap. The T-shirt hoodies he'd chosen were OK but he said the hoods felt a bit tight, and he just didn't like the other T-shirt he'd ordered. I have to say that the dress I ordered wasn't the colour I expected from the photo on the website (I still loved it though!), but that is just one of the many pitfalls of ordering online.
As I said before Joe Browns don't offer a free returns service, so I sent them back via the Post Office and used the returns label provided. It cost me just under £5 to send the items back, which probably washed the 15% discount I'd got down the drain! Anyway, I returned the clothes on 1 June by first class post and I got a refund on 3 June, so I was very impressed with the speed of the refund process.
Joe Browns isn't a company I will order from regularly as I find the majority of their clothes a bit too flowery/hippy for my taste, but they do have some lovely things and I love the dress, cropped trousers and top I ordered from them - I just need it to be hot and sunny again so I can wear them!
I think their sizing guide is excellent and it should minimise ordering the wrong size, however having to pay for returning goods is still something that would put me off from ordering loads of things in the future.
They also sell items on Amazon.co.uk
For Christmas my girlfriend has bought me two shirts from Joe Browns. I have seen a few of their catalogues in the past, but never bought from them before, I will be buying many things from them now.
The shirts I have are a great fit, with a nice fitted shape to them, good quality stitching and very comfortable to wear. Joe Browns are an internet only clothes store, but they are definately worth a visist. The clothes that they sell are great becuase they have a very unique, bohimien look to them. Their range goes from tshirts to jumpers, shoes, bracelets, and so on. All of which have a distinctive look to them and all look very funky. The best part of Joe Browns is that, unlike many high street clothes stores (cough Burtons cough cough), you won't walk down the street bumping into five other people with the same outfit.
The actual online shop is very easy to navigate round and has a big link at the front which takes you straight to the male or female sale clothes - a brilliant way to find bargains straight away! Ordering is simple, pretty much the same as on any other site, and delivery is nice and quick, around 5 working days.
Joe Browns is a mail order clothing company which is also online at www.joebrowns.co.uk. I have used this site for several years now, with some success, so I thought Id spread the word and recommend them.
~What Clothes and Accessories do Joe Browns Specialise In?~
Joe Browns specialise in what I would call quirky, slightly bohemian clothing. I would say that their clothes are an eclectic mix of grungy, hippyish, and scateboarder type clothes (Im trying hard not to stereotype here, but its not easy so forgive me!). I cant say I belong to any of these subcultures, but I do like original and 'different' clothing that doesnt look mass-produced.
Joe Browns clothing is certainly individual, and although I wouldnt fill my entire wardrobe with their creations, I do like the odd striking top, or dress to liven up my life! Especially with a pair of jeans or a long skirt.
This company also has many crazy little accessories or trinkets on offer too; some that would grace the likes of Glastonbury or the Reading Festival, dare I say! On their website they sell miniture overnight toiletries for tent stayers, quirkily decorated flasks, crazily adorned wellies, and other essentials for your nomadic type (what did I say about not stereotyping? Sorry!). They sell funky badges, wall art (Che Guvara, Jimi Hendrix etc...), belts, and scarves.
~What Does their Ladies Clothing Range Consist of?~
Their ladies clothing is very bright, patterned, and pretty original. They sell many varieties of tunics, some with embroiderie Anglais, others with sequins added. I love the fabrics they use, because the patterns are distinctive, cheerful, and just yell "Im on holiday!". Alot of their clothes are effortlessly chic and comfortable to wear; many dont require ironing because they are naturally creased garments.
Much of their womens knitwear consists of 'hoodies', but they are attractive. Other sweaters are typically knitted sorts that look hand made or bohemian.
Joe Browns also sell trousers, dresses, and skirts for women, all with that comfortable but classy style. The skirts and dresses are often flared in style, with a ra-ra trim; the patterns and designs are always detailed or else embellished with embroidery or sequins and lace.
~What about the Mens Gear?~
The mens range is equally original. The items that stick in my mind are the funky surfing/scateboarding type t-shirts, with interesting slogans on. I also rate the sweatshirts that are good quality and varied in their style, ie. hoodies, cardigans, knitted jumpers.
I like the variety of jeans they have on offer for men too, and I must say they look very comfy to the casual female observer.
~What are their Prices like?~
I would say for this range of quite distinctive clothing, that their prices are very reasonable. Here is a basic price guide with some examples:
Dresses- *from £9.95 (sale item) to £39.95 currently*
Womens Casual Tops- *from £7.95 to £28.95 currently*
Womens Jackets- *from £19.95 to £55.00 currently*
Womens Knitwear- *from £7.20 (sale item) to £22.95*
Mens Casual Tops and Polos- *from £5.50 (sale item) to £28.95*
Mens Jackets- *from £17.95 to £129.00 (leather jacket) current prices)
Mens Trousers- *from £14.95 to £49.00 currently*
Mens T-shirts- *from £3.90 (sale) to £24.95, including some offers for double packs of t-shirts ect...*
~Postage and Packing?~
Postage is a standard £3.95, which I think is pretty reasonable. Ive never had any problems with Joe Browns service, so I dont begrudge them £3.95 of my husbands good money (yeah, as if he even gets to see his earnings!). Delivery is always within the expected time frame, within 7 working days, unless out of stock.
So, I would certainly recommend this online shop, given my personal experience; both for quality of service, and standard of product. You can request a catalogue from Joe Browns by visiting the website www.joebrowns.co.uk, where you will be asked to register. There is no obligation to buy, you are just expressing an interest in 'perusing' their goods. Or else, just browse their catalogue online. Happy shopping all!
