Advantages: Cheaper than cheap, No delivery charge
Disadvantages: Phone call charges
I have bought almost all of my baby bits from Kiddicare. It is a fantastically cheap website and you can get things at a much reduced price than you would pay anywhere else. Babies ain’t cheap (as we all know) but this makes it a little easier on the pocket. I would say that it is better for larger items as the smaller things you can usually only get as part of X-deals (which I’ll explain a bit later). Free delivery makes an added bonus too. The selection you get won’t be quite as large as the high street retailers and they don’t always have everything but then it’s so much cheaper that you save hand over fist even if you do have to buy the odd item elsewhere.
The website itself is really easy to navigate round as you have the facility to search by product name, category or search engine and it’s got pictures to click on too which take you to the right place. They also put special offers on the homepage and bestsellers which can be handy.
I bought a buggy from them a month or so ago now and it cost me £69.99, I am still seeing the same model all over the place for just under £100! I managed to get a foot muff too and it still came well under the price I would have paid anywhere else. I’ve actually lost track of how much stuff I have bought from them but I haven’t found another website that rivals them.
I usually place my orders over the weekend and most of the time it arrives on the Tuesday and at the latest it’s the Wednesday.
Something to be careful of is their phone charges. Because they are a mainly internet based retailer it means that if you do have the misfortune to ring them it will cost you the princely sum of £1.50 per minute!!!! I am really disappointed in this as sometimes it’s not always feasible to e-mail a query. My steamer broke the other day and it’s not really something that you can leave until the end of the day to find out about so I had to ring them. Not only this but the phone operator gave me the wrong info (about faulty items and who to ring) so I then had to ring them again as they should have been able to deal with the problem in the first place. They didn’t want to ring me back either (bit naughty). This is the only problem I have ever had with them though and it wouldn’t stop me from shopping with them again.
The other really fab thing they do is X-deals. If you buy an item from their main catalogue you can scan a huge list of items at further reduced prices and add them to your shopping. Sometimes it’s worth it and sometimes it’s not but definitely worth looking at whilst you’re buying. You can’t buy the items marked with X unless you’ve already placed an order (from the main stuff) or unless all of your X-deals clumped together come to over £50 which can be a pain if all you want is some teats etc but on the whole it is a very handy thing to have.
For budget baby buying I would recommend this muchly!
