Advantages: Great choice of products, free delivery & returns, excellent customer service
Disadvantages: None
My fiancé and I have been using Lovehoney for a couple of years now and we think it's an excellent website and the customer service we've received has always been great.
<<< What is it? >>>
------------------------------------------------
Lovehoney is a website where you can do your 'sexy and secure adult shopping'. They cater for all tastes and I think the website is very well presented and not seedy or tacky at all. In fact, it's no different to walking into your local Ann Summers shop on the high street. However, if you still find that walking into a sexy shop like that is still taboo, but you still want access to the products then please read on.
The website is very nicely laid out, with tabs across the top of the site and also a list of the categories in more depth down the left hand side. So it's easy to find what you're looking for, or you can quite happily just browse around the site.
<<< What can I buy? >>>
------------------------------------------------
The homepage features a lot of sex toys, particularly the famous Rabbit, which is now available in loads of different styles. As well as these vibrators they also sell dildos, anal toys, male toys and bondage gear.
If that's a bit too kinky for you then the lingerie and clothing section might be more your cup of tea. They sell:
* gorgeous lingerie sets
* basques, corsets and bustiers
* stockings and hosiery
* sexy shoes and boots
* sexy costumes and fetish outfits
* for the curvier lady they have clothing for plus sizes 18-24
Some of the stuff is only suitable if you want to look like a pole dancer, but they do have some more tasteful garments too. They also sell Suicide Girls clothing, so if you want to become part of this edgy collective without committing yourself to tattoos and piercings, then you can just wear one of their T-shirts instead.
If you're too embarrassed to buy your condoms and lubricant in the shops, then buying online at Lovehoney can save you the embarrassment. Lubes have come a long way (excuse the pun) since good old KY Jelly and you can now buy organic lube and even vegan lube! This may be a step too far, but I guess if you're using it you can give yourself a pat on the back (with your free hand) as you're helping the environment! You will find well known brands like Durex and also Tracy Cox (such a funny name for a sexpert, well I think so anyway) who seems to have her name on pretty much everything sex related. Under the Sexual Health tab you will find products ranging from penis enlargement pills to intimate shavers, so they really have thought of everything. They also sell gifts, books and DVDs.
<<< What else do you like about the site? >>>
------------------------------------------------- --------------
As well as selling a huge range of products, Lovehoney has many other plus points:
Delivery
---------------------
First of all, there is free delivery on everything, with no minimum order! So you can buy anything from a £3 pack of condoms to a £30 vibrator and won't be charged a penny for delivery.
Packaging
---------------------
The next plus point is the packaging. It comes in plain boxes with absolutely nothing on the packaging to give any clue to what's inside, so maximum discretion is kept. This is great for my fiancé and I as we live with his parents, so when we get a parcel they don't know what we're buying!
Returns
---------------------
Another major plus point is they offer free returns 365 days after the date of purchase. For hygiene reasons there are some restrictions on what you can return and these are clearly explained on the website in the Help section.
I had to return a faulty vibrator and it was very easy to do. You fill out an online form so it is logged in their system. This will then give you their freepost returns address, or you can use the label that came on your despatch note.
I could have got a refund, but instead I chose to get an exchange for a different vibrator. This one was more expensive and I wasn't sure how I would pay them the extra money. So I sent them an email and they replied within 24 hours. They said I just needed to confirm that I was happy for them to charge the card I had originally paid with. This was fine, so I sent them back the faulty item with a note which had my original order number and what item I wanted instead. About a week later I received my shiny new toy, so it was totally hassle free and I'm really pleased with the customer service - if only all companies operated in this way! In fact, the website states they have received a Shopzilla Platinum Award in 2008, which makes them officially number 1 for customer service. They have a freephone 24 hour order line, but we've always shopped online so I can't comment on their telephone service, but I'm sure it's excellent.
Benefits of creating an account
-------------------------------------------
Another part of the website I like is when you create an account you can set up a wishlist so that you can keep track of products you'd like to buy, or you can send it to your partner to give them subtle hints as to what presents you'd like! Another benefit of opening an account is you can earn 10 ipoints for every £1 you spend and they have made it easy to join up whether you're already an ipoints member or not.
Pick up some deals
-----------------------------------
To entice you to part with your money, Lovehoney always have 'Deal of the Day' and special offers, like 3 for 2, or when you buy certain products you get an extra free gift, like a vibrator. These freebies are usually the cheaper models, but it's nice to have them to compare them to the more expensive ones so you can see that it is worth paying extra for a better toy. If you are thinking of buying some sex toys then I warn you that batteries aren't included, so don't forget to add them to your shopping basket!
Customer Feedback
------------------------------------
I really like that you can read reviews of the products from real customers, as they're concise but very honest, so you quickly get an idea of whether that product would be right for you. There is also Sex Toys TV which are short videos demonstrating the toys, but in a QVC and not porn kind of way.
You can also get more information from their free LoveHoney Magazine, which is written by Tracey Cox and Julie Peasgood. I enjoy flicking through this little magazine to see what the latest products are and I think it's a good way to raise the subject of trying out different things with your partner if you casually leave it lying around (probably not if you have kids though!).
I never thought I'd be writing a review about a website that sold sex toys, but it really is a great company so I thought I'd share my experience!
PS. I apologise for my poor smutty jokes!!
Summary: Go on, take a peek, you know you want to!

- 07/07/09 We've shopped from this website for about a year now and found it to be excellent in every respect. They also have a forum, and if you are active and helpful, as well as review products then you can get sent items to try out and review for nothing. Of course, you get to keep them too ;) |
