I always like to check things up in different shops online before buying in store so that I can compare prices. Whenever I need anything relating to travel or camping I often check millets.co.uk before going into the actual shop, but I only just actually bought something from them online for the first time last week.
Millets sell products relating to travel, backpacking and camping such as tents, rucksacks, sleeping bags, clothes, hiking/walking shoes, and plenty of travel accessories. They are probably more related to campers or backpackers rather than normal holiday-goers but you can still buy small things for a small holiday such as travel towels, insect repellent and money belts.
The website is really easy to use and navigate as it's got a very simple and modern layout and each search tools and categories. Every item has a thorough description about it so you always know exactly what you will be buying.
If you spend more than £70 then delivery is free and it's not too difficult to spend this amount as the type of products they sell are generally pretty pricey anyway, although Millets do offer a lot more affordable prices than other travel shops. They stated that it would take 3-5 days for my items to be delivered and they arrived in excellent packaging that we had to sign for 4 working days later which I was really pleased with.
The best thing about using the site is that they have a great policy for returning or exchanging goods. You can send things back by mail, however they also let you just take things into a shop, which is by far the easiest way as long as you have a shop nearby. This saves the hassle and cost of sending something back by post and it means that you can exchange your goods for something else in store.
For all your travel and camping needs, millets.co.uk is an excellent website to buy things from with excellent quality goods, affordable prices and great service. Especially when you can find a discount voucher somewhere online to get the price even cheaper!
Now, I'm a girl who has for the majority of my 32 years put looking my best above practicality but after a blustery cold day at The Hawk Conservancy thought it was about time I put my goosebumps to bed and bought a, dare I say it, sensible jacket!!
My bloke pushed me (he's not mean, I'm in a wheelchair) around town for hours scouring all the usual suspects for something that would keep the chill out but that didn't leave me looking too removed from my age group! So, after a tour of the shops, armed with the knowledge of what was out there we came home, made hot chocolate and I sat down at the computer to find a better deal!
I landed at the Millets website, their's was one of the shops we visited (it's split level but they had a mobile ramp which was brought out for me...I felt like royalty...aherm...I digress!).
This is a good clear website, the contact number is right there and it's freephone. There's a top bar with easy to read simple categories, which expand when you roll your cursor over them. The catergories include Clothing, camping, travel and clearance. I love the fact they have a clearance section because some sites do not wish, IMHO, for you to be able to find the discount department so easily. It's a very visual site with large images of people having a great time outdoors...not a goosebump in sight...looking good!!
***On clicking through***
I found the photographs of the products clear and the zoom facility is pretty good. There is just enough information on the products to not overwhelm nor too little to leave you wondering what 'it' does! Everything is concisely laid out without lots of distractions. This website flows and is not at all confusing. You can flit very quickly between products (providing your computer has an average speed). I cannot praise enough the sheer delight of a nice white background, it's brilliant.
After boring poor blokey with lots of "Do you like this one?"'s we decided on my jacket, but as at the mo they have a great deal on (Buy 1 get 1 half price...yay for the bargains) we got the kind sir a jacket too. (Talk about spoiling him, eh?). We added products to basket which was all ticketyboo and I toddled off to checkout. I was duly offered 2 delivery options; standard @ £4.95 (free if you spend over £70) and next day (a mere £2 more) @ £6.95. We were in no hurry so opted for the former. Things were so simple. I registered; easy peasy it was. Paid through their secure checkout. They accept the following payment methods VISA, Master Card, Switch, Maestro, Delta, Solo, Visa Electron or American Express card.
I recieved a very fast confirmation e-mail: no mad worrying that the order may not have gone through for me, no my dear, all good!
***Process and Delivery***
To my utter amazement on doing my final e-mail check that evening a dispatch note was awaiting my perusal. On it's way...blimey...I was well happy. Delivery was made by good old Royal Mail (I wont rate their delivery service as this is about Millets.co.uk not RM). The package was secure and the jackets were each individually bagged inside. Faultless in my opinion.
I don't have much call to shop at outdoorsy-type-shops (I'm more of a hotel/spa kinda woman) but if ever I needed to purchase anything again for the outdoor life this would be the place I would come to. I had no worries from start to finish and think they must have a cracking team working for them. A jewel in the internet-shopping crown if ever there was one.
This is a place to visit if you enjoy outdoor activities such as camping but need the necessary clothes to enjoy the experience. They sell a wide range of outdoor clothing for mostly adults although they do some children's items too.
The first time I visited this store I was looking for a raincoat for myself and after shopping in all the usual high street stores unable to find anything suitable I came across Millets and decided to have a look inside. They had a sale on in the store and I picked myself up a very reasonably priced raincoat which was exactly what I was looking for. This was over 4 year's ago and it is still in perfect condition. I also bought my son a Peter Storm rainproof coat which fits into a little bag very useful for a shower and very good quality.
The staff are quite young but are highly experienced and very helpful. You can browse round the store undisturbed which is a relief as it is quite a small store but I felt very relaxed shopping there.
The only complaint I have is that I wish they stocked more children's items as I would definately shop there more often than I do at present. I also write on helphound and ciao.
I have recently shopped at www.millets.co.uk for some fleeces and after having a few problems I decided to suggest them as a site to review.
www.millets.co.uk is a website the same as the shop. Millets is an outdoor, camping, sportwear type retailer. I bought some lovely fleeces last year in millets they were fantastic quality and a very resonable price so I decided to try and get some more. I found the fleeces in question on the website reduced to £11.50 each and placed an order for 2 crew neck fleeces. The fleeces arrived appoxamitly 5 days late but were not as pictured on the website. I had ordered round neck and got v neck so i phone customer support that suggested i returned the item for a refund. The also informed me that they don't do rounded neck fleeces and the image needs to be update. (Great!) I repackaged my fleeces fillled in the return slip with wrong item sent as the error and popped to the post office where i was told i needed to pay for returns and it would be £4.60 so i decided to phone them back and i was told i caould return the fleece to a Millets store for free but if i posted it i would have to pay postage. I returned the fleeces to a millets store where the staff refunded the cost of the items but not the postage i had paid! i explain the items was not as discribed on the site and it was millets fault that i had to retunrn them and i asked to be refunded the postage i had paid when i ordered them online. I was told they couldn;t do that but to contact customer service. I took the refund for the fleeces came home and e mailed customer service to explain the problem they have agreeed to refund my postage as the error was theres. It has taken me 2 weeks and a lot of time to sort out but i have now been refunded fully! I have checked the website and the fleece is still there with the wrong picture but it says page currantly being updated so hopefully they are sorting it out.
Back to the website...
Ordering on the website is very simple simple search the categories you wish then select items you would like to purchase and add to your basket. The site is easy to navigate but I do find some pages take a while to load, as there are many images per page. There is also a search box if you have an item you are looking for like gloves boots etc you can use this to look for matches to your search. The checkout is simple to use enter details address payment method etc. There are some promotional codes online if you search just try Google. Delivery is £3.95 and takes 3-5 working days, which is about average.
I would recommend Millets as the items they stock are good value and great quality but beware you have to pay for returns. I thought customer service was very fair to me.
