Advantages: Funny cards and posters, quick and cheap delivery
Disadvantages: Not one for your granny!
I discovered moonpig.com in quite a strange way. A few weeks ago it was my birthday. As I was opening my cards I came across one of a woman having a tantrum in a clothes shop. The sales assistant was saying to her "it's no good Mrs. Bryant, (my name), we don't have a 'cry until we'll give it to you' policy". I was very surprised to see a card like this. I opened it and found it was an advert for Moonpig.com, with the offer of a free card if I registered with them. I like a freebie, so went to have a look! The site has a huge number of cards available on it. Many of them you can personalize in the same way the one I received was. There are cards for most occasions, fitting a wide range of people. They are of a similar price to cards you can buy on the high street. The cost of a card is £1.99. My current favourite range is 'Twisted Yarns'. These are 1950's cheesy knitting patterns, with very funny captions. Moonpig offers delivery either to you or straight to the person the card is for. You can import your signature onto the site, and this can be put onto the card you buy. This is great if you have forgotten a person's birthday, and need a card quick. Delivery only costs 30p for up to 10 cards, which is excellent especially when compared to some other Internet shopping sites. Delivery is very quick. If a card is ordered Monday to Friday before 1pm, Moonpig will send it out that day. I received my cards the day after I placed the order. I have also sent cards straight to other addresses, and they have all arrived on the day I asked for. At the moment Moonpig have a good range of Christmas cards, all at £1.99. Even better 25p of the price each card goes to Comic Relief, which is good percentage compared some other charity cards. For a limited time Moonpig are also offering a deal if you charge your credit card before you shop. For every £10.00 you put in, they will add an extra £2.95. Very handy at
this time of year. A new section on Moonpig are posters. Thirty of the card designs are available as posters, and many of them are still able to be customised. At £5.99 they aren't cheap, but postage is still only 30p, which is excellent. The only slight disadvantage to the cards is that although there are many different designs, the type of humour means you probably won't find one for your Granny here. They also don't do children's card, which is a shame, as I would certainly buy lots if they did. However they say they are expanding, so who knows what they might offer soon. The site is easy to navigate, and fun to look at, so it's well worth a visit, even if you don't buy any cards!

- 06/01/01 You pay an amount into your account through your credit card before you place an order, rather than waiting until the end and then only pay for what you have ordered. It means you probably leave some credit in your account, and I assume moonpig need this 'spare' money to keep going. I'm not sure everyone would want to do this, as there is some risk involved. I only put in £10 at a time. As my usual order is about £6, it doesn't take long to use it up. |
