Movietyme is a website selling region 1 DVD's, electronics and games. Sometimes I want to get the best edition of a particular DVD, or maybe a cheaper game that I can get over here, this is where sites like this come in. I have VLC media player on my computer which plays any DVD regardless of it's region and the DS games I buy are region free, so will play on any DS.
The site is laid out Ok, not the best but adequate. It has a lot of information about their products but I think that amazon lays it out in a more clearer way. You also can't right click on any part of the site, which means you can't copy and paste any information, which I agree is only a minor annoyance. I think the search function could be better as well, as the results only come up as a little drop down-like menu with no other information. Again, I feel amazon is better.
A big plus for me about this site is the speed at which they handle pre-orders. Any DVD that I want that I can pre-order from movietyme I will order straight away. I've had orders dispatched two weeks before the release date! And as they usually arrive relatively quickly (you do have to pay £1 for expedited shipping) you'll have it quicker than anyone else. Excellent if you can't wait for a particular release. To me, all the negatives of this site are well worth it considering how good they are at this.
This is probably one of the best sites out there for your region 1 needs. I have never had any trouble with deliveries failing to turn up, and they all arrive with no dents or bumps. As they ship from America there is a chance you could get hit by customs but that's never happened to me. Overall a very good site, perhaps not the best laid out site, but I would recommend them to any family or friends.
I have just recently starting getting my region 1 DVDs from this company and i must admit that i am very impressed with their level of service. Movietyme has a vast catalogue of region 1 DVDs and are now beginning to stock region 3 as well, which is excellent for those that do not wish to get their region 3s imported from hong kong. Delivery is normally 2-5 days for an instock item, and an out of stock item is genrally longer but is still usually very fast. Prices too are very competitive and often cheaper than many of the major region 1 suppliers. If you have any queries about an order the staff can be easily contacted via their message board or e-mail and i always get a prompt reply. Overall i cannot rate this company highly enough and recommend them to anyone to is looking for a fast, reliable service.
I've been into DVD for almost 2 years now and if you're a serious collector you will understand the benefits and advantages of R1 DVD. Movietyme is a company that will supply imported R1 DVD to the serious collector at very reasonable prices with free P+P. Their prices are very competitive and the service is reliable. I'm a little different to the average Internet shopper in that i don't have a Credit Card, a tool that is pretty much standard in the world of internet shopping. Instead i have to rely on paying by cheque and there is precious few DVD importers who accept this medium. Thankfully Movietyme do and they have been getting my custom since the moment i found their site. A huge bonus in DVD collecting is being able to get films on DVD that will either never see the light of day on British shores or for one reason or another getting a DVD that is far superior to the British equivelent. Thanks to companies like Movietyme the serious collector is afforded the choice that the regular Joe on the street isn't. From Criterion Editions to R0,1,2,3 and 4. I liken it to being a little kid in a sweet shop when browsing the site. The website is always updated to include all the latest prices and new releases are added each week. If there is one complaint that has been mentioned is the design of the site itself. I actually like being able to see the new releases on the main page. It's not to hard to browse around the only trouble is the lack of any detail in what you are searching for. Still there is plenty of contact addresses in case there is something that needs to be asked. So if you're after a site that offers the latest and competitively priced DVDs (of any region) then you can't go far wrong with Movietyme.
I have been buyer DVDs online for some time now but do usually buy Region 2 discs as Region 1 discs tend to be quite pricey and I can usually find Region 2 fairly cheap or second hand. That said though I do buy Region 1 discs from time to time and have recently tried Movietyme.com. After hearing a lot of very positive talk about Movietyme I decided to check out their website. I was surprised, as it isn't the best out there by any means. The layout and look is a little basic but does the job fine and as far as I am concerned if it works then it's ok by me. The problem I have with it is that if you find a title you want there's no information about it apart from title and price. So you really need to either know exactly what you want before looking or otherwise check out some other sites first to see what the details are. Well, I did find what I was looking for and at a great price too, a lot cheaper than anywhere else I looked was. That is probably the best thing about Movietyme, their prices, which are certainly some of the cheapest around. And they do seem to carry a lot of harder to find titles that you may not find at more popular, bigger sites. Movietyme do seem to carry most new releases, and all at good prices - usually £13.99 to £16.99. And special editions are there too, at prices better than most others, and certainly worht thinking about. They also have a fairly good selection of back order titles, but maybe not as good as say Amazon or DVDBoxoffice. Also delivery is free! Well, to the UK it is so that's fine by me. It's also pretty quick! It took little time from ordering to actually receiving the disc, and certainly much quicker that Amazon.com or DVDBoxoffice, or many of the other popular Region 1 sites. Overall I would certainly use this site again, as they are good for price but I will check things out before looking. If only they could put a little more information about titles than it
would be the best place for region 1 discs for sure. Still worth a look as it is though.
Having heard a lot of good reports about movietyme, I placed my first order with them recently, and have to admit I was mighty impressed with the service I received. The prices on the site are pretty good, and quotes in British pounds, despite them being a region 1 based retailer. This is a very good aspect of the site, because you pay what you see, and don’t have to worry about conversion and exchange rates etc. As for the site itself, well its pretty basic. There is little information about each title, apart from the bare essentials, but this really isn’t a problem, as you can easily do your DVD research at other sites/on-line stores. Ordering is made via a secure checkout, so your card details are encrypted and very secure, so there is no need to worry about credit card fraud etc. While the ordering process is very basic, is it incredibly straight forward, and dare I say it idiot proof. While the prices are good, the delivery charges are among the best there is. Charges for delivery to the UK are £2.00 a title, although recently they have introduced a ‘free shipping to Europe’ offer that wipes out the shipping charge and makes it even better value for money. Delivery is incredibly speedy, and on most titles, Disks arrive within a week, although on some titles the wait may be longer, although it is never long. I was so pleased with the service I received that I dully placed another three orders, all of which are pre-orders, so they are yet to arrive. My initial experiences with Movietyme are excellent, and from what I can gather their customer services are excellent too, although fortunately I have not had to use them, and long may that continue. The only negative aspect of the whole process was their web site, although this is sufficient for the job. While the service and prices remain as good as they are, I will continue to order from them, and I would not hesitate to recommend them.
Update on order --------------- When I wrote my original opinion on this site, it was for a pre-order of What Lies Beneath. I said I would update when my first order was completed. Well I'm very pleased to say that it has been completed - and very much to my satisfaction. I actually received the DVD about 3 weeks before its official release date. So, personally, I'm very pleased indeed and will be happy to order from them again. But I will stick to pre-orders. Now, if only they would carry out their intended upgrade to the web site! Original Opinion ---------------- I have recently placed my first order with this company and, as it is a pre-order, I cannot say what my experience is like for the complete order to sale to delivery. What I am looking to provide, for now, is a first impression because, after all, they are very important. I will then provide an update when my DVD has been delivered. Of course, my purchase is not a complete stab in the dark. I have visited their site on a number of occasions but never actually purchased anything. The reports I have read, though, say they pretty decent and reliable. This a British based company that specialises in the personal importation of region 1 DVDs. My first order is for What Lies Beneath and it is due to hit the US streets on 30th January, 2001. The reason I have bought it is because they are offering it for £14.99 delivered, which is a pretty good deal. What has put me off buying from them previously is that their web site looks like it has been designed by somebody who has just completed their first Java course! It is not easy to navigate around. I have tried using their site search engine before as well and frequently found that I couldn't find a particular DVD. I am now convinced that they only carry a limited range of DVDs. This does not mean that they have a small range of titles but they are not in the same category as somebod
y like amazon.com, who carry a very large range. So, the site layout is not the best I've seen but how was the ordering process. Well, it was sort of easy. The reason I say this is because on some items, like the one I've ordered, they offer free shipping to the UK. On others, they don't. Now, that seems fine but the problems begin to arise when you start to go through the ordering process. When you go to the checkout you find that shipping charges have been applied! What you then have to do is use a draw-down menu to select the free shipping option. To me, this seems like a silly thing to do because it is very confusing and open to misinterpretation about what your options are. There is nothing to stop you selecting free shipping for ANY order! You will even get an email confirming your purchase at this price. However, if you are not entitled to free shipping they will charge your credit card the correct amount i.e. with the shipping charge. In fairness to them, their shipping charges are quite reasonable. All of this is so trivial to fix, though, and I struggle to think of rivals with this level of software. My other slight problem with them is that they do have a rather large advert for their adult section. Personally I have no objection to them having an adult section but I would prefer it to be advertised slightly more discretely. There are no embarrassing pictures but it is clear what that part of the site is offering. The above may sound a bit negative but actually ordering on the site was quite easy. Of course, it's a secure server so ordering is safe. Another plus point is that they don't charge your credit card until the have sent your DVD (there are some that will charge straight away for a pre-order). For now, I am waiting for my DVD to be released but will provide an update on their delivery when I get it. If all goes well, I will be very happy to use them again. I will therefo
re provide an update in about 6 weeks so watch this space - and perhaps by then they'll have improved their site;-) For now, my rating of the site will be 3 stars because of the slight unknown factor of delivery - although I anticipate no problems.
This is a British based company that sells Region 1 DVD’s on a personnel import basis from their warehouse in the States. Their prices are generally similar to other R1 retailers in the UK, although it is best to compare before ordering. They charge £2 delivery per disc, but seeing as their prices are usually £2, cheaper per disc it normally works out the same as Future Entertainment or Play247 delivered. Delivery times are normally good with most DVD’s arriving within a week and pre-orders arriving on the day of release, if not before. They are currently updating their web site to improve on-line ordering, previously you had to ring or e-mail them with your order, and it can be difficult getting through as they seem quite busy, although you can leave a message and they will ring back. Their web site is clear and well laid out and quite attractive, but they don’t have a lot of information on each DVD on-line (just the title and price in £), so a bit of research is required about a disc before ordering. Their customer service is quite good, and they reply to e-mails and messages left on their answer machine. The only drawback I have found with them is if you have a faulty disc (as I have with Gladiator). It takes them 7-10 days to actually test the disc and send out a replacement (as I was told when I phoned them), I returned Gladiator 2 weeks ago and am still waiting, so am not too impressed with this. Seeing as faulty discs are quite rare (I hope), this should not put you off ordering from them, and I will (and have already) use them again.
