Advantages: Great Site, Loads of Options, Almost Free
Disadvantages: Only Almost Free
Vistaprint have offered me something for nothing! Uh-oh... I am naturally suspicious, especially when it comes to the internet. Too many horror stories have soured my desire to plump for what seem to be great offers online. Believe it or not, however, the tide seems to be turning... I have been tempted out of hiding. E-Commerce is always something to be cautious of, especially when the word FREE is involved, so I was naturally wary when mypoints.com offered me 250 business cards *almost* free. The e-mail said that a company by the name of vistaprint was offering business cards free to anyone, and promised that all I would pay for was postage and packing. Naturally curious, I clicked on the link provided and from that moment on I was impressed. Constantly. Their site is superb and the navigation is simple and effective. As a web designer, I am always critical of web sites and could do nothing but compliment this one. Getting started with my free business cards, I was presented with an easy to use ordering system, and a great choice of designs. I picked my card (a great looking blue and white design), entered my information and placed my order. The preview on offer helped immensely - Every time I changed something I was able to check that what I had changed was suitable. There was a huge choice of free designs and I spent about half an hour alone looking through them! Completing my order took seconds, and I am now waiting for delivery (at which point I'll update this review to let you know how good they REALLY are), which is expected in about 3 weeks (though there is a 10 day option that costs a little more). Curious as to what else they offered I had a look around the rest of their site, and was pleased to find that everything seemed to be just as good. For £14.99 you can order 250 business cards along the same lines as above, but with more options, including a company logo, font and colo
ur options and a much larger range of templates. There is also a range of other products - they will print up headed paper for you, create postcards and more. All options include a really easy to use interactive interface, and everything has a preview option. The prices for these other options are great as well - 250 full colour postcards are £29.99. The back of the cards are not blank, rather they have an advert for the company, which you can have removed for a cost, and this would be my only criticism. They are offering me something for *virtually* nothing, though, so I'll be happy to help them out in return and keep their ad. They also have an affiliate program that promises 50p commision on any orders placed by people clicking through from your site - and this is another tempting option. I'll wait to see if my cards make it to my house on time and in good condition before I give up space on my site for that though... I have to say that I am not easy to impress, especially when it comes to the Internet, and this company seem be a cut above the rest. A superb site, a great offer and no ddisadvantages that I can see - so far. I'm nnow waiting for my cards, and when (or should that be if) they arrive, I'll be back tto update this and let you know how good they are, but judging by what I've seen so far, I should have nothing to worry about. PS The P&P was £5.99 for 3 week delivery and £7.99 for 10 day delivery - but it's still as close as anyone will ever get to something for nothing.

- 28/06/01 Hmm, 'free' and six quid are a long way apart. I'm afraid I'm still sceptical about e-commerce - excellent op though. |
